Kapil is above Sachin just for that fact that he held world cup in his hands once whereas Sachin has never done that.......

I agree with Maddy !
When it comes to cricket everything matters.
Even GOD failed in captaincy !
I would say
1. Kapil
2. Sachin
Both these people were role models for many.

It is not in one person's hand to get world cup. When all of the players have some contribution then only this world cup or any other cup is possible.
If u see 1996 and 2003 world cups it was because of Sachin's Major contribution we had come to Semi Final and Finals respectively. Otherwise we would not gave been qualified for even quarter finals.
Kapil was a part of great team where allmost everyone had major contributions.
In case of sachin several times he was the lonely person who contributes and others fail

Stand corrected.
Gavaskar was out of form during that entire worldcup83. Besides, he was never a match winner as regards One dayers
Srikanth was just coming up but never consistent
Mohinder Amarnath - Man of greatest comebacks - Yes, he was the only guy really worthy of mentioning but again , he was not a specialist one day player
Sandeep Patil - Excellent eye & terrific hitter but was not consistent
Yashpal Sharma - 100 % team man but not a great player
Kirti Azad - Up coming
Ravi Shastri - Was jut part of the team but didnt play many matches
Kirmani - GREATEST KEEPER OF INDIA
Binny - Bits & pieces but good swing bowler
Madan lal - Same like Binny but a committd cricketer
NOW ON WHAT GROUNDS U ARE SAYING THAT KAPIL HAD A TEAM O F GREAT GUYS
LET ME TELL U :
Before this series, we were badly battered by Imran in Pakistan . Indians had no clue to his INDIPPER
A series was played before the world cup in WI against that mighty Marhal, Robers, Holding, Garner - We lost the series 0-2 but the tough experience we had with WI enabled us to have a better match practice
The first match in 83 world cup was won by India surprisingly against the WI . This was just a start
KAPIL PLAYED A MATCH WINNING KNOCK & THIS SHOULD BE RATED THE BEST EVER KNOCK PLAYED BY AN INDIAN . HE SCORED 183 NOT OUT RECOVERING FROM A PRECARIOUS 17 FOR 5 AGAINST ZIMBABWE .
THIS MATCH WAS THE CATALYST FOR THE ENTIRE SUCCESS . THIS GAVE HUGE CONFIDENCE TO THE TEAM & THEY STARTED BELIEVEING THAT WE CAN ALSO WIN .
SUCCESS FOLLOWED SUCCESS.
ULTIMATELY, IT WAS KAPIL's MOTIVATING CAPTAINCY , WHICH WON THE WORLD CUP FOR INDIA
IF NOT 100% , 80% CREDIT SHOULD GO TO KAPIL BECAUSE HE BROUGHT TOGETHER , A DEMORALISED TEAM ESPECIALLY AFTER THE POUNDING FROM IMRAN & WEST INDIES BEFORE HE TOOK CHARGE .
THIS IS WHAT LEADERSHIP IS ALL ABOUT & THATS WHY KAPIL SHOULD BE RANKED AS THE BEST .
KAPIL EXCELLED IN BOWLING
KAPIL EXCELLED IN BATTING
KAPIL BROUGHT US THE WORLD CUP
WHAT ELSE DO U NEED FURTHER TO PROVE ABOUT KAPIL

I disagree. As Nakkeeran has pointed out, the team was rather ordinary. Everybody played a small part at some point of time.
Ours was truly a world cup won by a team not by Individual stardom (like '96 and '03 where Sachin took us all by himself). No-one in the team was great. I think it must been a news like how we were pleasantly surprised to see Kenya nmake it to the '03 semis.
But with 12 wickets at 20.12 apiece and a batting average of 60.6 Kapil led from the front in 1983. In my opinion he should have been the man of the series. Amarnath was of course instrumental in the last two matches. Even today it is widely acknowledged that Kapil catching Richards was the turning point of the final. And the 175* ( Nakkeeran, not 183 , that was Ganguly in Taunton) is arguably the match that turned the Indian team on its head.
That said, it would be really difficult to place Kapil ahead of Sachin in terms of sheer bowling/batting genius. Compared to his contemporaries (like Botham,Imran) it would be tough to call him the best. he never dominated the opposition like Akram or Ambrose.
He never ever did justice to his batting talent (the 175* was his only ton in 198 innings). There are two innings I wish to recall. One is this century that helped draw the test in Post-of-Spain in 83 . The other is the match in test is SA in 1992 where Donald killed us. From an ugly 6/31 he made a century that helped us get past 200 (though we lost the match). These were shows of his matchless grit and tenacity. But it would be difficult to place him above Sachin.
