thuNukku is Tamil -- means literally - a piece, slice. Then came to be used for "narration".
sometimes as : thuNukkai, or thuNukkam
News piece - seithi thunukku,
anecdote (very short, bit) narration of a story, incident - kathai thunukkku.
also as:
"anecdote" = nodikkathai

bata. batta or bhata?
Aryabhata I (476-550 CE). name of a mathematician. There was another who lived about 400 years later.
BhaTa means a warrior.
bata is an interjection meaning astonishment.
Looks like there is no batta.
What's the correct spelling, if anyone is familiar with this term?
