Eventhough they are playing the best basketball at the moment, I dont think that they will win the championship this time.

Some team from the east, I personally would like pistons to win

    Raptors embarrassed by Pacers
    WebPosted Mon, 17 Apr 2006 21:59:12 EDT
    CBC Sports

If 18,267 fans could show up Monday for the Toronto Raptors' home finale, why couldn't the defence?

Four of five starters scored in excess of 20 points as the Indiana Pacers embarrassed the Raptors 120-95 on 'Fan Appreciation Night' at the Air Canada Centre.
Indiana led by as much as 37 points in the romp.

"You have to mature in this league," Raptors head coach Sam Mitchell explained. "It just does not happen overnight and I wish people understood that.

"Obviously, we're disappointed...but I do see the light at the end of the tunnel. When you have to suffer through nights like tonight, there's is no way to run and hide, you just have to suck it up and suffer through it."

Peja Stojakovic poured in 27 points as the playoff-bound Pacers (40-41) earned their fourth victory in their past five games.

Anthony Johnson netted 22 points and dished out a game-high nine assists, while Stephen Jackson contributed 21 points.

Jermaine O'Neal provided 20 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and five blocked shots over 30 minutes.

Indiana has won eight of its last 11 meetings with Toronto and 12 of 16.

Morris Peterson matched Stojakovic's output with 27 points for the Raptors (27-54), who snapped a season-worst 10-game losing streak with an improbable 108-103 win over the Detroit Pistons last Friday.

Toronto, which finished a dismal 15-26 at home this season, concludes the season Wednesday at Chicago.

"I hope all the guys in the locker room take this game and remember it while they're working out in the summertime," Peterson said. "Think about things like this, think about playoffs and, hopefully, next year we won't go through the same thing."

Rookie Joey Graham scored 18 points followed by Mike James with 14 points.

Loren Woods counted 12 points and a game-best 14 rebounds in a losing cause.

"There were a lot of lessons I learned out there today," said Raptors rookie Charlie Villanueva, who had 13 points.

"We were down by 30 and you just have to keep playing. It was a mental game today.

"It was really hard. It was frustrating, but you just have to keep going."

Stojakovic scored 22 points on a sizzling 9-10 from the floor in the first half, including 4-5 from three-point range, as the Pacers led 70-51 through 24 minutes.

The Raptors, meanwhile, proved so abysmal that guard Andre Barrett inadvertently passed out of bounds to referee Dick Bavetta who, jokingly, raced up court with the basketball upon recording his first steal of the season.

"It just gives them more of a barometer and (helps) make sure they understand what they have to work on and what they have to improve on," Mitchell said of his players.

Toronto was badly outshot, 56.6 per cent to 38 per cent.
