Re-release anathe illiya? what do you mean? I have seen Nadodi Mannan,Adimai Pen at Trichy (Maris Complex) and Ulagam Sutrum Vaalian at Chennai (Alankar -now no more) in 90's.

When I used to be a kid, there were a few theatres in Madras that kept changing old movies every Friday ... Some of them were

Kodambakkam LIBERTY

Aminjikarai LAKSHMI

Mehta Nagar PAZHANIYAPPA

and so on ... That's where I used to watch old MGR, Sivaji, Rajini, and Kamal movies !!

Some movies went beyond a week too !!! Except the weekends, you can pretty much get the tickets over the week without any hassle ...

The good thing abt all these old theatres screening old movies is, fans who are from the previous generation can still enjoy watching their fav stars on the big screen ... Like these days, being a Rajini fan, I feel as if I belong to the previous generation !!!

In my home town Nagercoil ,Ulagam sutrum Vaaliban re-released atleast once a couple of years and run min 10days. Same goes with Vasantha maaligai

even 'nadodi mannan' will be released frequently in parts of madurai district,tru that still his charisma exists!

I watched MAHADEVI in Pazhaniyappa !! Man, this was in the late 80s I think .. The movie was housefull ...

Another experience as a kid was, we went to watch Rajini's NALLAVANUKKU NALLAVAN in 1984 at AVM Rajeshwari theatre in Madras ... I was only 5 at that time, so obviously I couldnt follow anything that was happening ... But all of a sudden, the whole theatre was screaming and whistling ... When I looked up, they were showing the trailer of the movie IDHAYAKKANI during it's 2nd or 3rd release ... Man, I still remember, the song Neenga Nalla Irukanum naadu munnaera song was shown ... Amazing response in theatre ...

And of course, when Nallavanukku Nallavan movie began, it was BIGIL BIGIL !!!

Also, I have heard from my Dad and from a number of elders that whenever MGR appears on screen, or during a fight sequence or a hit song, his fans throw coins from the balcony !!! I'm talkin abt the 60s and early 70s !! Correct me if I heard the wrong thing Joe!
