Single Kolkata man has a surrogate child

Kolkata, Oct. 2: In probably the first known case of a single man having a biological child by a surrogate mother, Kolkata-based chartered account A. Banerjee became father to a baby boy on Sunday. Mr Banerjee, who got divorced five years ago, was keen to have a child. “Mr Banerjee was desperate to have a child, and we were there with surrogacy as a solution,” said Dr Sudarsan Ghosh Dastidar.

Mr Banerjee decided to involve two women in the surrogate pregnancy to prevent either from claiming parentage at a later stage. Three parties were involved in the baby’s birth. Mr Banerjee provided the sperm and an unidentified woman donated the egg which was fertilised in a laboratory by fertility doctors. The resulting embryo was implanted in a second woman, also unidentified, who carried the foetus for the duration of the pregnancy.

Mr Banerjee finally became a father when the surrogate mother delivered his child at Ghosh Dastidar Fertility Research Institute at Kolkata. The 44-year-old south Kolkata resident’s joy knew no bounds. “I love children. This bonny boy will re-kindle my hopes to live, excel and look forward to each day. Since the divorce five years ago, I was left with no other option but to resort to a surrogate mother.

Finally, my mother will also get to play with her grandchild,” Mr Banerjee said after his baby boy’s birth. The child was carried by the surrogate mother for nearly 38 weeks. According to doctors, it was a safe delivery. The surrogate mother, who is in her late 20s, chose not to reveal her identity.

Of course this may be a development for the medical fraternity.
The man has got a child ( he loves children.)
His mother has got a child to play with.
The doctors in the hospital have successfully developed an embryo into a child..(Maybe first such experiments for those doctors involved.)
But Juz think about the life of that child..
Doesn't know who his mother is,
He woudn't enjoy the love, touch and affection of his mother,
May be he could get all materialistic pleasures from his father/grandmother..
But he will be facing a lot of psychological pressures, peer pressures and mental pains from the day he enters a school and it will continue forever ...

And this couldn't be a development, atleast morally.
    May God bless him.
