Good analysis man. Of course ARR is my all-time favorite MD, and I would love him to compose music for my all-time favorite Superstar, with the biggest director in Tamil cinema. However, I differ from you in one aspect. If not ARR, I would prefer HJ, because he's the only one who's got the ARR style and touch. Not even IR or anybody else for that reason. The whole experience or ambience of the movie will be so different if either of these 2 dont compose the music...Just my personal thought...

HJ is a copy cat... lacks originality... look at anniyan... And one more thing... this is not going to be a shankar movie, it may not even be a rajni movie... it cud be something inbetween.... Only experience and true brains can handle it effectively... Who else has brains other ARR or IR... and if not either VS is versatile in comparison to the other MDs. VS is highly under rated largely due to the Media, he has talents, I dont see why he isnt being helped by media!

I realise HJ is a good possibility but ...... he is nothing more than a Deva... only difference deva atleast has a good percentage of original songs in comparison to copied songs!

I'm being pretty sure as I believe Shankar knows his Anniyan audio wasn't a hit as he would expected it to be like his previous movies which he has A.R. Rahman with him. So therefore the giants would definetely look for another giant there.

Don't think VM has such an influence. He couldn't wag his tail with Mani(AE). I think it'll be the case with Rajni and Shankar. If he still wags, they'll cut it and ask Pa.Vijay and Vali to pen the lyrics.

Another interesting fact is that, Shankar has said to be looking forward to work with A.R. Rahman soon with a mega project so who knows this is what he meant. A.R. Rahman himself has said in an interview that he will come up with a surprise package soon enough.

Excellent post Movies.. I think ARR deserve to be in this project. I know last time, it was time constrain and also ARR was busy with LOTR project but now he has the time to compose music for Shankar and if Shankar wants this project to reach beyond TN then ARR would be an ideal choice. And I dont think IR would be a part of this project atleast for not composing songs. If IR could do the BGM of this movie then that would be an excellent choice.
