Vidya Sagar's current and new offerings

Do we also have a separate thread for VS's new albums? If so, this may be closed. Otherwise, it will be a complete travesty not to have one for this talented MD, who has bloomed relatively late in life. As far as I am concerned the only MD, apart from Deva, who comes *somewhat* close to MSV, KVM, IR and others of the seventies, in terms of spontaneity in several of his melodies, is VS. I am very pleased with two of his latest offerings:

    1) Ding dong kovil maNi nAn kEttEn
    2) Konja nEram konja nEram konji pEsa koodAdhA

The one issue I have is that "deja vu" feel in many of his songs. That said, which current MD is completely original?

Konja neram didnt impress me very much. Rehash of earlier IR songs. I just posted the original of athinthom in the Chandramuki thread. Its a clean lift from a Mallu song.
VS, unfortunately has'nt done well in the last few months after he came into the limelight. His best was in the early years when he came up with good melodies for obscure films which flopped.

    Some of my favourites:

    1. Vaa saki, vaarai en thozhiye - arasiyal
    2. Poothirukkum vaname - Pudhayal
    3. Delhi Durbaar/Uyirodu uyiraaga songs
    4. Mouname paarvayaai -Anbe sivam
    5. Poi sollakooodathu -Run
    6. neeya pesiyadhu, azhagooril poothavaLe - Thirumalai
    7. aalanguyil - parthiban kanavu
    8. un samayal - Dhil
    9. thom thom thithithom - aLLi thandha vaanam

He has a pretty good sense of melody but his packaging of tunes is'nt completely original and he has'nt been able to find a style of his own like most current TFM MDs.

Vijayr, try singing the two numbers I mentioned and you will feel good. In that sense, I am impressed with those two numbers
Do you sing yourself? I am no great shakes as a singer, though.

I like VS for all his massy songs like Dhool, Ghilli, and CM. Talking abt his melodies, his AASAI AASAI song from Dhool is my favorite. I was mesmerized at the song and how romantic it was.....

Konja Neram song was inspired by Pagaliley Oru Nilavinai Kanden Song some VjyaGanth Movie and Ding Dong is from Rathiriyil Pothirukum(or both may be in same raga)

"Talking abt his melodies, his AASAI AASAI song from Dhool is my favorite."

It is also at the top of my list of favorites. I think the same song appears in the Hindi movie Hulchul. Music by VS, of course. The music and the tune complement each other very well. Interesting to note that it doesn't figure in Vijayr's favorite VS numbers.

"Ding Dong is from Rathiriyil Pothirukum"

Is it? I don't discern any resemblance at all OTOH, I believe raathiriyil poothirukkum and andhi mazhai have some in common. It becomes clear if you sing the former first followed by andhi mazhai.
