Dear friends,

A good poetry is like an iceberg; showing s small portion outside and hiding a lot underneath. So we have to dive and find the original dimension.

Also we can say that A poetry should be like 'manaR kENi'. It should keep on producing the meaning according to the man's depth of knowledge and his try.
(thottanaiththu uurum manar kEni maandharku
katranaiththu uurum aRivu- vaLLuvanin indha ilakkaNam aRivukku mattumalla kavidhaikkum thaanE.)

Writing a film song (with meaning) is the hardest thing in the poetic field(IMHO). The situation of the song is decided by the Director. The basic concept is decided by the Screen Play. Even the length of the line and the notes of words are decided by the the Music Director. Upart from all these hurdles, the Image of the Hero gives the writer some considerable restrictions. With all these Iron curtains around him, the film song writer has to breath the language and produce some poems.

Yes true "pUve poochoodavA" and Varushm PathinnARu" were very good films but I also liked "poo vizhi vAsalilE", en bommukutti ammAvukki( He braught out something different from SathyarAj) , katpoora mullai ( Amala's performance was excellent) and Kaathalukku Mariyaathai. Though the film was a mega flop I still felt there was something special in "kaNNukkuL nilavu"

And Malligai I too love that song "onnavida" in Virumandi. The lyrics are simple and beautiful (lyrics penned by Kamal Himself). As you say his voice very well suites the song. I also liked the way he has sung "annalatchumi kaNNasaichA".

I agree with you on those lines of Manaivi amaivathellAm and I think the last charanam is more sublte than the other..
