I always get this doubt whenever I watch the famous Suriya’s death scene in Nayakan ( I'm not sure if this has been discussed here before or am I just flogging a dead horse ?? )

Velu Nayakar half-heartedly permits his son to take on his first “ assignment “ and remains on tenterhooks. Unfortunately, Suriyas’ man goofs up and things get awry. Nayakkar somehow smells this and when he finally calls up Suriya over phone, he simply says, “ mmm..onnum illa... nee vaa “. All this clearly shows that Nayakkar is closely monitoring everything about this assignment. In this case, the accident news should have been conveyed to him first whereas, it is not.

Next morning, we see a very fresh Nayakkar feeding the pigeons on the roof top. We can also spot the vermilion on his fore head, which he keeps after performing his daily routine of pujas. Finally his old buddies break the news to him. When Nayakkar sees the corpse of his son from the balcony , we see that almost the entire vicinity has been gathered in his house and that all the arrangements had been done. All this time, Nayakkar is completely unaware about what’s happening in his house and that too about his son’s death.

The moment Suriya’s body is brought in, the ladies or others present in the house would have let out a big cry and that would have been enough for Nayakar to react. But I think that this entire scene must have been conceived in order to give that cinematic effect, which of course was successfully done.

This is just my view and correct me if I'm wrong.

    Mani to work with Yuvan
    IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, June 01, 2010]

Nearly two decades after he parted ways with Illayaraja, ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam will now join hands with the music maestro’s son Yuvan Shankar Raja for a Hindi movie to be produced by Madras Talkies.

Interestingly, Mani will play the producer role alone for this venture, which will be directed by his assistant Shivakumar. The film will have Vivek Oberoi as hero and a top Bollywood actress as the heroine.

Confirming this, Yuvan says, “I have been roped in for a Hindi movie to be produced by Mani Ratnam and directed by Shivakumar. I am excited to be a part of the project. It is going to be a different attempt.”

Meanwhile, sources have it that Mani was earlier planning to direct the film but later handed it over to Shivakumar as he felt his associate would be the right choice to wield the megaphone for this movie.

Mani's next film may have Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan in the lead. Its a story of two boys on the either side of the border and have a common love interest.
