On its opening day, Bahubali did a little better than what was expected from it in the Hindi version. Though even a first day of 3-4 crore wouldn’t have been really bad for the S.S. Rajamouli film (regardless of the release size, it was still a dubbed version, and hence had to wait for the word of mouth to kick in), it actually went ahead and netted 5 crore, which was a positive news indeed. Not just was it the biggest ever for a dubbed South film in pan-India market, it was also one of the better opening for any movie released in the year so far. Since the reviews were out and out positive, there was escalation in audience footfalls over the weekend. As a result, the film’s opening weekend read around 22.35 crore. Now that is huge indeed as just in a matter of three days, the Prabhas-Rana-Tamannaah-Anushka starrer has managed to surpass the lifetime collections of last dubbed film that had made any notable impression, Robot. It has to be noted that Robot, despite a massive entertainer that it was, had collected just 11 crore in its first week and had ended its lifetime run around 17-18 crore mark. To actually surpass the collections of a Rajinikanth-Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer is no mean feat, and Bahubali has managed to do that in record time. For that, good credit must go to Karan Johar who relentlessly marked and promoted it. The film should continue to do well for its first week at the least, but it has a huge roadblock ahead in the form of Bajrangi Bhaijaan. However, at least till then, it should enjoy a good run and be happy with the attention it has managed to gain despite a largely unknown starcast for the world outside South of India. Meanwhile, Sunny Deol and Kangna Ranaut starrer I Love NY turned out to be a complete non-starter and didn’t even see a start, leave aside a jump or a fall. The reviews were average to bad as well, while the word of mouth totally absent. With a weekend of less than 2 crore, it has proven to be a huge disaster and would struggle to complete one week at the box office. No wonder, the starcast was hardly talking about the film en route its release. Remaining three releases of the week, 2 Chehare, Thoda Lutf Thoda Ishq and Mere Genie Uncle, saw a token release at one or two shows in select centers and won’t even gather a collective sum of 50 lakhs. Telugu epic Baahubali smashes box-office record in Bollywood takedown

It’s been a slow year financially for Indian cinema, with box-office watchers waiting until late May for romcom sequel Tanu Weds Manu Returns to finally break the 100-crore mark ($15.7m) for local films. Unexpectedly, it’s the Telugu industry – generally a notch down on takings from Bollywood – that has provided the first true barnstormer of 2015, in the shape of SS Rajamouli’s epic saga of a deposed king, Baahubali. Being touted as the most expensive Indian film ever certainly didn’t dampen its prospects (though the $40m budget was technically split over two parts), and early reports suggest it has monstered the 108-crore ($17m) debut weekend record set last Diwali by Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year.

Friday and Saturday saw takings for Baahubali (also filmed in Tamil, and dubbed into Hindi and Malayalam) in the order of 135 crore, and a Hindustan Times piece has pegged the whole weekend at 165 crore ($26m). Worldwide figures aren’t yet available, but it took $3m in the US, within a whisker of the $3.5m for Aamir Khan’s religious satire PK, the highest-grossing Indian film worldwide. So Baahubali should have placed in the vicinity of sixth or seventh on the global chart, minimum. Most heartening is that Rajamouli’s film was warmly reviewed: the Guardian called it “a near-perfect balance between physicality and poetics”, and Times of India said “the larger-than-life execution matches [Rajamouli’s] grandiose vision”. So, in contrast to the likes of Happy New Year – which the old Bollywood razzle-dazzle routine couldn’t prevent from dropping off embarrassingly – Baahubali has a shot at setting a box-office record for the ages. Or at least until part two, next year.

கனடாவில் பாகுபலி தெலுங்கு பதிப்பு முதல் மூன்று தினங்களில் 51.65 லட்சங்களை வசூலித்துள்ளது. இங்கு தமிழ் பாகுபலியின் முதல் மூன்றுநாள் வசூல் 13.85 லட்சங்கள்.

யுகே மற்றும் அயர்லாந்தில் பாகுபலியின் தெலுங்குப் பதிப்பு முதல் மூன்று தினங்களில் 31.55 லட்சங்களை வசூலித்துள்ளது.

ஆஸ்திரேலியாவில் பாகுபலி தமிழ், முதல் மூன்று தினங்களில் 16.94 லட்சங்களை வசூலித்துள்ளது.

பாகுபலி தமிழ் முதல் மூன்று தினங்களில் இங்கு 23.43 லட்சங்களை தனதாக்கியுள்ளது.

For wat....its not a surprising thing at all...a movie made at a budget of 200 crores and in a span of 4 years time expected to do this kind of collection...even if rajmouli give an average movie collection will go down...content is the king ...not only now even in mgr era...A star who can give three films in a year and still gets great opening inspite of word of mouth...more over Telugu movies overseas market majorly depends on US...a flop movie of rajini collects 150 crores made at a budget of around 60 crores....tats v call it as star power
