See, we have to accept the facts. Especially if it is obvious, denying and justifying will look foolish. There had been times Bhagyaraj and TR beat Rajini at BO collections too when their movies competed!

One can call that as "cowardice". I would call that as a wise decision! Because today, the first week collection is very very important because of wide release!

It is wise to go for a solo release and get maximum collections within a week. After that Piracy takes over anyway.

In a way Ajith, Vijay and Kamal made big mistake by clashing with each other for Pongal 2014 and Diwali 2015. It makes no sense that they would allow their collections to get eaten up by an equally healthy rival.
