Muralidharan, good posts!
On nalinakanthi, I think ye housla is not in it. Also 'manam virumbuthe' - except for the starting similarity with manavyalakim. There's more nalinakanthi in the start of this song, don't you think:
Also here's a beautiful alapana by Nithyashree from the same movie

I have seen great singers moving the listeners to tears by their soulful singing ! But here, this child Anushya , something different ! She, the singer herself, breaks into tears, towards the end. Apparently, moved by the loaded lyrics and the meaning of the folk song !.
The audience is speechless , overwhelmed, tears welling, the judges are stunned !!
Just for reference, The original song from "Thendral" . Music by Vidyasagar .

Raga : Mohanam
Raga : Mohanam
Yesterday night , (26th Jan 2015) I was watching movie "Aranmanai" in Sun TV. In that , this song, "Sonnadhu Sonnadhu needhane"
sung by Harini in Mohanam ( I think so !)was quite nice. Music by Bharathwaj.
Perhaps, This song from film Ayya , by Sadhana Sargam , is a bit comparable, somewhere, in a few places, in to that Aranmanai song. Raga could be the reason , may be the similarity of voice, music director and or style of singing too !

"Of all human powers operating on the affairs of mankind, none is greater than that of competition." - Henry Clay .
I felt this when I was watching the show in Vijay TV Super Singer Junior 4 wild card competition. Perhaps, this challenge rounds are a bit too much for their tender age ! Parental pressure, peer level comparison and stuff like that !
All the 8 contestants were battling it out , heart out ! The out come , during the rounds, was some beguiling songs coming to the fore !
Listened to this captivating, sonorous song on 29th Jan 2015 "Vaidehi Raman Kai Serum.." Film Pagal Nilavvu . What a a beautiful & delightful Composition by the great Ilayaraja.!
It is a ragamalaika. Kalyani, Hindolam Mohanam ...
No matter what these children has been through, they are still here, fighting! .
They might have been challenged ,hurt , betrayed , beaten and discouraged , but nothing has defeated them.

Raga : Pantuvarali
Considered "A meditative raga, Pantuvarali brings forth a wide gamut of emotions when elaborated, and is one of the favourite ragas of rasikas and performers alike. A hint of pathos, intense yearning, a pleading quality — these are the signature emotions that Pantuvarali would convey". - Charulatha Mani .
A remarkable captivating piece in this raga is "Om Siva Om" from "Naan Kadavul" . Isai by Isaignani. Very powerful song. Singer Vijay Prakash.
2. There are very engaging pieces in this raga : Some samples here :
"In the Nimisham" – Film " Hello" By Deva .
3. One Super hit by ARR in Hindi Film 'Hai Rama"- Rangeela.
(Perhaps, You can see some succulent semblance in the tunes between items 2 and 3 )
.

Hindustani : Jugalbandi in Brindavan Saranga by Pravin Godkhindi (Flute)- Jayateerth Mevundi (Vocal) . It is just class apart.
Coming to Tamil film songs side , Snegithiye - 'Radhai Manathil' Song. Lovely Dance sequence .

Dwijavanti Raga
You may be aware Dwaja means flag. Vanthi means Praise . So we may say Dwijavanti Raga for patriotism. Is not ' Raghupati raghav rajaram’ on everybody's lips?
In Dwajawanti “Manappennin Sathyam" by Latha Rajanikanth (Singer) from "Kochadaiyan" were enchanting ! Very nice Wedding Vows ! Somebody said, a must in marriage and engagement functions. Perhaps, appropriate in sashtiaptha poorthis too ! Lyrics by Vairamuthu Awe !
Also, the complimentary "Manamaganin Sathyam" by Haricharan (with Super Star animation )

Raga Megh Malhar
Legends say this Megh Malhar, Hindustani raga has the power to bring out rains in the area where it is sung.
A tamil song form "Star", "Thom Karuvil Irunthom" by Shankar Mahadevan & A. R. Rahman.
May remind "Dheem Ta Dara" film ‘Thakshak’ sung by Surja Bhattacharya (ARR)
Perhaps, because it is a 'cloud' raga, there is a lovely rain dance piece . A good dance by Aiswarya Bacchan from Guru : “Barso re “ . In tamil, “Ven megam mutta mutta” A super song.
