I have seen The Godfather also, but I think this was a brilliant film in all departments. Thevar Magan was a pleasant surprise. Because till then I had only seen Kamal as an actor. I was studying in college when Thevar Magan was released. When I went for the first day, first show and saw that the story and screenplay was by Kamal Haasan it was a surprise. It totally moved me the way it was made and put together. அடிப்படையான ஒன்றை மொதல்ல தெரிஞ்சிக்கிறது நல்லது. ஒரு படத்தை இன்னொரு படத்தோடு ஒப்பிடுகையில் கொஞ்சமாவது கதை, கதைக்களன் ஒத்துப்போகுதான்னு பார்க்கணும். முள்ளும் மலரும் - ஒரு தனிப்பட்ட குடும்பத்தை சுத்திசுத்தி வருகிற திரைப்படம். முதல்மரியாதை கூட தேவர் மகனோடு ஒப்பிடவேண்டிய படமே அல்ல. படம் முழுக்க மலைச்சாமியின் ஆழ்மனதில் அன்புக்காக, நேசத்திற்காக எதிர்பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருக்கும் மனதைத்தான் அது அலசுகிறது. ஆனால் தேவர் மகன் அப்படியல்ல. குடும்பம் - சமூகம் - அதற்கான விழுமியங்கள் சார்ந்தது. இதுக்கு மேல கிளிப்பிள்ளைக்கு சொல்வதுபோல சொல்லத்தேவையில்லை.
