Digitised version of the film celebrates silver jubilee

As the MGR-Jayalalithaa starrer Aayirathil Oruvan’s new digitised version celebrated the silver jubilee here on Monday, AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa declared that the film had paved the way for her entry into politics.

Ms. Jayalalithaa, who first played opposite MGR in the film released in 1965 and continued to pair with him in 28 films, the maximum for any heroine, said the film gave her an unforgettable and lifelong experience.

‘It’s still fresh’
“It was a successful film, and it gave me an opportunity to meet and converse with MGR. It is not an exaggeration to say that the film paved the way for my entry into politics,” she said in a message sent to Divya Films that released the digitised version of the film which has had a successful rerun.

“Even 50 years after its release, the film remains like a fresh lotus depicted in a beautiful painting,” she said.

Ms. Jayalalithaa’s speech was read out by G. Chockalingam of Divya Films at a function attended by M.S. Viswanathan, music director of the film; P. Susheela, playback singer of Ms. Jayalalithaa in the film; R.K. Shanmugam, dialogue writer; and Muthu, the makeup man of MGR.

Ms. Jayalalithaa said that at a time when a film was celebrated for completing a week in theatres, Aayirthil Oruvan had run over 100 days in 1965, and the digitised version now completed 175 days. “It stands testimony to the quality of the story and the talent of those who participated in the making of the film,” she said. The film transcended time and attracted people from all sections, particularly the youth.

Actor R. Sarathkumur said that long before the advent of the technological revolution, MGR was able to conceptualise a film that could match Pirates of the Caribbean in every aspect. “His political message was conveyed through the film.”

The digitised version was released in 122 theatres across the State and remained a popular draw in two city theatres.

Jayalalithaa says Ayirathil Oruvan was instrumental for her foray into politics

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday said the yesteryear blockbuster, Ayirathil Oruvan, starring her mentor M G Ramachandran and herself, released in 1965, laid the foundation for her foray into politics.

In a message to G Chokkalingam of Divya Films, read out during the silver jubilee celebrations of the re-released film in digitally-enhanced format, the chief minister said it had given her a memorable, lifetime experience. "It's my first film with puratchi thalaivar M G Ramachandran and a runaway hit. It was only through this film, I got an opportunity to meet and speak to him," she said, acknowledging "with pride" that she had acted in 28 films with MGR thereafter.

Jayalalithaa hailed the 1965 classic, directed by B R Panthulu, as a film that had run to packed halls for 100 days during its first release and touched 175 days in digitally-enhanced re-release format even after five decades. It only reflected the greatness of the story, quality and talent of those involved in the film, she said. The film once again proved that it could steal the hearts of lakhs of people. "It has achieved what new films couldn't do," she said, pointing out to its huge reach among the younger generation. The chief minister said Panthulu was like a father-figure and had lot of regard and respect for her.

She said she could not turn up for the event due to a prior appointment, but extended her wishes to the film and hoped it would win more laurels. The film's musician M S Viswanathan, singers P Suseela, dialogue writer R K Shanmugham, actors L Vijayalakshmi and Madhavi were honoured at the function. Jayalalithaa made a special mention of Panthulu's daughter B R Vijayalakshmi and son B R Ravishankar, who restored the film to its original glory.

புரட்சித் தலைவர் எம்.ஜி.ஆர்.-ஜெயலலிதா நடித்து வெளிவந்த ஆயிரத்தின் ஒருவன் திரைப்படத்தின் டிஜிட்டல் பதிப்பு மாபெரும் வெற்றி கண்டு இன்று வெள்ளி விழா கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. இதையொட்டி, படத்தை வெளியிட்ட திவ்யா பிலிம்ஸ் ஜி.சொக்கலிங்கத்திற்கு முதல்வர் ஜெயலலிதா வாழ்த்துச் செய்தி அனுப்பியுள்ளார். அதில் அவர் கூறியிருப்பதாவது:-

திரை வானிலும், அரசியல் வானிலும் எவராலும் வெல்ல முடியாத அளவுக்கு வரலாற்றுச் சாதனை படைத்த புரட்சித் தலைவர் எம்.ஜி.ஆருடன் இணைந்து நான் நடித்த முதல் தமிழ் வெற்றித் திரைப்படமான “ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன்” திரைப்படம் நவீன தொழில்நுட்பத்துடன் எண்ணியியல் வடிவில் தயாரிக்கப்பட்டு, மீண்டும் தமிழகத்தின் திரையரங்குகளில் வெற்றி நடை போட்டு, வெள்ளி விழாவினை கொண்டாட இருக்கிறது என்ற செய்தி எனக்கு பெருமகிழ்ச்சியினை அளிக்கிறது.

புதிய படங்கள் சாதிக்க முடியாததை “ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன்” திரைப்படம் சாதித்துக் காட்டி இருக்கிறது. தற்போதைய தலைமுறையினரும் இந்தத் திரைப்படத்தை மிகுந்த ஆர்வத்துடன் கண்டு களிக்கிறார்கள் என்பதை நினைக்கும் போது என் மனம் பூரிப்பு அடைகிறது. ஒரு திரைப்படம்,

திரையரங்குகளில் ஒரு வாரம் ஓடினாலே அதனை வெற்றிப் படம் என்று சொல்கின்ற இந்தக் காலத்தில், “ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன்” திரைப்படம் 1965 ஆம் ஆண்டில் 100 நாட்களைக் கடந்து ஓடியதோடு, இன்றைக்கு மறுவெளியீட்டிலும் 175 நாட்கள் ஓடும் அளவுக்கு அதனை மக்கள் கண்டு களிக்கிறார்கள் என்றால், அந்தப் படத்தின் கதை, தரம், அந்தப் படத்தில் பங்கு பெற்றவர்களின் திறமை ஆகியவை எப்படி இருந்திருக்கும் என்பதை எண்ணிப் பார்க்க முடிகிறது.

இந்த விழாவில், “ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன்” திரைப்படத்திற்கு இசையமைத்த மெல்லிசை மன்னர் எம்.எஸ். விஸ்வநாதன், திரைப்பட பின்னணிப் பாடகி பி. சுசீலா, வசனகர்த்தா ஆர்.கே. சண்முகம், நடிகை எல். விஜயலட்சுமி, நடிகை மாதவி ஆகியோர் கௌரவிக்கப்படுகிறார்கள் என்பதை அறிந்தேன். மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சி. இந்தத் திரைப்படத்திற்கு அவர்கள் செய்த திருப்திகரமான பணியை, நிறைவை, நான் இந்தத் தருணத்தில் நினைவுகூர்ந்து அவர்களுக்கு எனது நல்வாழ்த்துகளையும், வணக்கத்தினையும் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறேன்.

“ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன்” திரைப்படத்தை தயாரித்து, இயக்கிய இயக்குநர், மறைந்த பி.ஆர். பந்தலு எனது தந்தையைப் போன்றவர். என் மீது மிகுந்த பாசமும், மதிப்பும் வைத்திருந்தார். அவரது படைப்பிற்கு இன்றளவும் உயிரோட்டம் கொடுக்கும் வகையில், “ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன்” திரைப்படத்தை எண்ணியியல் வடிவில் மறுவெளியீடு செய்து, அந்தத் திரைப்படம் மாபெரும் சாதனை படைக்க காரணமாக இருந்த அவரது புதல்வி பி.ஆர். விஜயலட்சுமி மற்றும் புதல்வன் பி.ஆர். ரவிசங்கர் ஆகியோருக்கு எனது பாராட்டுகள். அவர்களது பணி தொடர எனது வாழ்த்துகள்.

என்னைப் பொறுத்த வரையில், “ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன்” திரைப்படம் எனக்கு ஒரு மறக்க முடியாத வாழ்நாள் அனுபவத்தை பெற்றுத் தந்தது. ஏனென்றால், இந்தத் திரைப்படம் தான் புரட்சித் தலைவருடன் நான் நடித்த முதல் தமிழ் திரைப்படம், வெற்றித் திரைப்படம். இந்தத் திரைப்படத்தின் மூலம் தான் புரட்சித் தலைவரை சந்திக்கும் வாய்ப்பும், அவருடன் பேசுகின்ற வாய்ப்பும் எனக்கு கிடைத்தது. நான் அரசியலுக்கு வருவதற்கும் அடித்தளமாக அமைந்த படம் “ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன்” என்று சொன்னால் அது மிகையாகாது. புரட்சித் தலைவருடன் அதிகமான, அதாவது 28 திரைப்படங்களில் கதாநாயகியாக நடித்த பெருமையும் என்னையே சாரும்.

மறுவெளியீட்டில் மாபெரும் சாதனை படைத்த “ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன்” திரைப்படத்தின் வெள்ளிவிழா குறித்து எனக்கு முன்கூட்டியே தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தால், இந்த வெள்ளி விழா நிகழ்ச்சியில் நானே நேரில் வந்து பங்கேற்று இருப்பேன். முன்கூட்டியே ஒப்புக் கொள்ளப்பட்ட பணிகள் காரணமாக என்னால் நேரில் வந்து கலந்துகொள்ள இயலவில்லை.

திரையுலக வரலாற்றில் முதல்முறையாக மறுவெளியீட்டில் மகத்தான சாதனை புரிந்த “ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவன்” திரைப்படத்தின் வெள்ளி விழா மிகச் சிறந்த முறையில் சீரோடும், சிறப்போடும் அமைய எனது நல்வாழ்த்துகளைத் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்வதோடு, தாங்கள் இன்னும் பல சாதனைகளை படைக்க வேண்டும் என்றும் மனதார வாழ்த்துகிறேன்.
