Charlton Heston (born John Charles Carter; October 4, 1923 – April 5, 2008) was an American actor best known for his roles in The Ten Commandments (1956); Ben-Hur, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor (1959), El Cid (1961), and Planet of the Apes (1968). He also is well known for his roles in the films The Greatest Show on Earth (1952), Touch of Evil (1958), and The Agony and the Ecstasy (1965).
Heston's first professional movie appearance was in Dark City, a 1950 film noir. His breakthrough came when Cecil B. DeMille cast him as a circus manager in The Greatest Show on Earth, which was named by the Motion Picture Academy as the best picture of 1952. In 1953, Heston was Billy Wilder's first choice to play Sefton in Stalag 17. However, the role was given to William Holden, who won an Oscar for it. Heston became an icon for portraying Moses in the hugely successful film The Ten Commandments (1956), reportedly being chosen by director Cecil B. DeMille because he thought the muscular, 6 ft 3 in, square-jawed Heston bore an uncanny resemblance to Michelangelo's statue of Moses.
After Marlon Brando, Burt Lancaster, and Rock Hudson turned down the title role in Ben-Hur (1959), Heston accepted the role, winning the Academy Award for Best Actor, one of the unprecedented eleven Oscars the film earned. After Moses and Ben-Hur, Heston became more identified with Biblical epics than any other actor. He voiced the role of Ben-Hur in a cartoon version of the Lew Wallace novel in 2003.

Heston played leading roles in a number of fictional and historical epics: El Cid (1961), 55 Days at Peking (1963), as Michelangelo in The Agony and the Ecstasy (1965), and Khartoum (1966). Heston also played the eponymous role in the western movie Will Penny (1968).

NT's acting edge over the Oscarites!-3 : Sean Connery in the shades of Sivaji Ganesan!

NT's stature in coat/suit is as magnificent as Sean Connery's (the original James Bond till this world exists!) tuxedo. But Connery often feels fish out of water when he opts for roles other than OO7! However, he was able to come out of his 'licensed to kill' shadow and gave this world some superb performances as in 'the Man who would be King', 'The great Train Robbery', 'Indiana Jones and Last Crusade', 'The Rock' and the most significant achievement for him as the best supporting actor at Oscar in 'the Untouchables'!! His was also a long wait in as much as the Oscar award could have been given to him for immortalizing a fiction hero James Bond OO7 in DrNo and subsequently 6 more Bondflicks, till this world revolves and exists!
However, Connery too could not provoke emotions like NT (in Deivamagan father NT resembles shades of Connery features)!

....but his acting style resembles GG's subtle mode rather than NT's explosive performances!!


Gregory Peck (April 5, 1916 – June 12, 2003) was one of the world's most popular film stars from the 1940s to the 1960s, Peck continued to play major film roles until the late 1970s. His performance as Atticus Finch in the 1962 filmTo Kill a Mockingbird earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor. He had also been nominated for an Oscar for the same category for The Keys of the Kingdom (1944), The Yearling (1946), Gentleman's Agreement (1947) and Twelve O'Clock High(1949).

Other notable films he appeared in include Spellbound (1945), The Paradine Case (1947), Roman Holiday (1953), Moby Dick (1956) (and its 1998 miniseries of the same name), The Guns of Navarone (1961), Cape Fear (1962) (and its 1991 remake of the same name), How the West Was Won (1962), The Omen (1976) and The Boys from Brazil (1978).
He is best remembered, however, as the Sheriff in the evergreen cowboy genre movie ‘McKenna’s Gold’”one of the highest grosser of all time in Indian screens too!

President Lyndon Johnson honored Peck with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1969 for his lifetime humanitarian efforts. In 1999, the American Film Institute named Peck among the Greatest Male Stars of All Time, ranking at No. 12. He was named to theInternational Best Dressed List Hall of Fame in 1983.

Peck also received many Golden Globe awards. He won in 1947 for The Yearling, in 1963 for To Kill a Mockingbird, and in 1999 for the TV mini series Moby Dick. He was nominated in 1978 for The Boys from Brazil. He received the Cecil B. DeMille Award in 1969, and was given the Henrietta Award in 1951 and 1955 for World Film Favorite
