Maybe 1st half...second half might have backfired. Also with Simha we actually could not guess where the movie was heading to. But with a leading star we would have known well in advance that he will steal the show by the end of the film.

But that cameo part is younger days of sethu, right... even though VS did a good job, it was not convincing in portraying him as young sethu in terms of look.. imo

When Sethu narrates his real life story to Karthik, Karthik as a film maker immediately visualises it as a reel life naration, that is, how he is going to film it including the artists. Thus Vijay Sethupathy in Karthik's film is Sethu. There is a clue if you want to capt it - at the corner of the screen they display the lines from a script :

EXT : Night

where Kaatchi stands for Scene Number, and EXT for location meaning Exteriror.

Similarly, he even imagines the way he is going to put the title cards in the movie which is a biopic of Sethu enacted by Vijay Sethupathi. Thus in the end he persuades and "more" VS to act in this film.

Superb detailing later when the same actors(Balasingh and few more) who come in those visualisations appear later in the shooting spot of A...Kumar. Only Vijay Sethupathy gets replaced by Simha. I missed this during the first viewing.
