    Tenaliraman [2014 : Tamil : 2h30m : Comedy (Drama, Social Problem, Humour, 'Epic-Fantasy')]
Written & Directed by Yuvaraj Dhayalan

    Banner : AGS Entertainment

Starring : Vedivelu, Meenakshi Dixit & other awesome co-stars in extended cameos

An unknown traveller, Tenaliraman, uses an roll-call oppurtunity to get himself enrolled as one of the ministers in the King's court. After proving his intelligence over power and wits over suituations, Tenaliraman backs off from his major objective - to kill the King - after witnessing the kind heartedness of the latter and finding out that the 8 ministers are the culprits who were stopping the welfare activies and policies set by the King from reaching the commoners. From here its all about how Tenaliraman - takes down these ministers, intellectually battles their threat to the kingdom, makes the king realise his ignorence, not but not least, finally sets up a people's court.

Thenlairaman is the 3rd venture of Vedivelu in this genre and it takes the 2nd place falling far behind "23rd Pulikesi" and just ahead of "Indiralogathil Na Azhagappan". The film is fun, which does conviniently alter seriousness into pricky humour. Yuvaraj has narrated us a tale with a good mix of awesome episodes from Thenaliraman Kathas. It gets a very special mention for cripsly capturing these short stories with its humour quotient intact. Ofcoarse without Vedivelu it would not have been possible, where the King Vedivelu bags all the credits. He is just funny with all types of mannerism and vocal changes. He has got a new signature laughter and an awsome DUM dialogue. His "Mari Mari" lines are such a wonder to watch him perform.

Meenakshi Dixit is a beauty and saves most of the romance episodes. Her attire in a period film was just awesome and she just glitters on screen, not to mention her ravishing exposures and smiles. Its been a while I had seen such a pretty dame running around elegantly in a movie. Mano Bala gets more time with the King and the rest 7 ministers are just cameos, including Enemy-King Radha Ravi (his death was funny). Devadarshini is another gem, she did an excellent job in Naveena Sarawathi Sabatham. In Tenaliraman she does an extended cameo and she really sinks quite well with Vedivelu's timing. You got to see how naturally they have played the pinching scene, LoL. After Vedivelu, its the decor that takes the limelight. Wonderfully colored sets and costumes increases the plesantness. Theatrical kind of sets mingles well with the parodical take of a period film. Imman should get a hold onto the stories he is working with. He should concentrate more on grasping the tale and receprocating a music accordingly, rather than just repeating himself every single BGM for every single scene. Kind of tires you and he is too loud too. "Aan Azhaga" song was graceful, thanks to Madame Dixit and Miss Ghoshal.

The movie is not completely a comedy crapper like 23rd Pulikesi. SOme lengthy dialogues, meant to be jovial, make you wonder at a point why and when it actually started, missing us out from the laughter. But still Vedivelu's energy keep it ticking, rather tickling. It had a huge star cast of some awesome performers but there were less group humour and more of duals between the King & Tenali. They could have pulled out more of group timing humour just like the lighthouse scene. More than that there is nothing much to scratch in the movie.

Thenalirman : Witty for all Suttis

    Spoiler:
Nee enbathu, uyira udala peyara ; Moondrum illai Seyal - Kochadaiyaan 3D [release 09/MAY/2014]

Disappointed. Hardly 15-20 mins of laughter. Could have avoided those scenes involving non tamil speaking actress.

The film was OK, a bit of a drag in the 2nd half, Pulikesi was much better

The expectation was more laughter and lengthy vadivelu type comedy... looks like the movie failed in these aspects... better luck next time vadivelu......
