Thaipusam occurs in the month of Thai on the day of the Pusam star, which is a full moon day. It's also a very important day for Sivan worship. As Murugan is Sivan's lights form (wisdom), it has become an important festival for Murugan over the years. As Kantha Puranam, the legend of Murugan, and Thirupugal which are divine verses on Murugan, adhere to Saivam principles, Murugan is accepted as being associated with Saivam and devotees pray to him as a wisdom of God.
