On account of the confusion related to the release of Thalaivaa, there was an emergency meeting held by the theater owners in Teynampet today morning, in order to discuss the release date of Thalaivaa. Theater owners from all over Tamil Nadu participated in the meeting.
The theater owners had earlier offered attractive Minimum Guarantees (MG) for the film when it was scheduled to be released on the 9th of August. However, the delay has caused people to sell pirated DVDs of the film and upload the movie in the internet. As a consequence of these incidents, the theater owners have decided to release the movie on a profit sharing basis and not on MG basis, as earlier expected.
An official announcement regarding the release date of Thalaivaa can be expected in a few hours and as of now, August 15th or 16th are spoken of as likely release dates.

At least other states of India can feel that they are part if Independent India.

Leosimha and few other Ajith fans,
You had more than your share of fun in this thread. So let's stop goofing around here and let Vijay fans discuss about the movie.

I would tend to agree with this statement. My take is that these days, the pirated versions and DVD prints are out within a day, so even if the movie had released last Friday, the DVD prints would have come out by Saturday (just like in Kerala, Karnataka and everywhere else). Vijay has a fan base strong enough to keep the theaters occupied for a good number of days in the first week. And for a decent movie with Vijay in it, even the family audience will come to the theater, no matter what...just like in Kerala and Karnataka. A release on the 15th would have meant a good 4 day weekend...however, let's just hope the movie does get a release soon and recovers whatever money it can so all stakeholders can at least break even. More the delay ..more chances of the excitement and buzz getting lesser.

Not to worry. Big plus for Vijay movies is family audience. May have impact on grand opening but movie will have good run
