ANIL MUSIC REVIEW
Review by : Kaushik L.M
Starring: Anil Bharath, Ashrith Bhanu, Vineeth Shankar, Dibesh Dikkubai Vijay, Pradeepa, Dhanalakshmi
Direction: ARS
Music: S R Shankar
Production: A Sreenivasan
Looks like the movie ‘Anil’ is about school life and a realistic one at that, looking at the poster and the tag line. The screenplay, dialogues and direction for 'Anil' is by ARS who is debuting in Tamil cinema through this film. The music has been provided by S.R.Shankar who is another first-timer. An analysis of his work follows.
Anilu Anilu
ARS, Vineeth Shankar
This song introduces us to the movie’s title in no uncertain terms. The word ‘Anilu’ is repeated countless times and at varied paces. A cheeky and likeable number. A short interesting effort to kick-off the album. Can’t make much sense from the lyrics apart from the fact that a lot of women are referred to.
Ada Aadipadungada
Mukesh and chorus
The song starts off by calling out a lot of different men and of course the word ‘Anilu’ is a major part of the build up to the song. A cheerful, feel-good fast number that talks about living life happily as the name of the song indicates. There are some typical kuthu elements like heavy percussions.
Manasukkul Oru
NK Priyanka
A sweet romantic melody with the pretty naïve and raw voice of NK Priyanka, the lead singer. It moves along at a gentle pace without any ups or downs. The saxophone and violin instrumental interludes add some more charm to the song. The violin instrumentals prove the composer’s adeptness at classical music.
Dinam Dinam Unnai
Swetha Menon, Haricharan
Starts off in ‘Hindustani’ mode with the male singer singing ‘swaras’ in high pitch, accompanied by tabla. Then it becomes a typical romantic duet. Nothing special but, the song doesn’t hurt the eardrums as well. Has some decent singing from the mellifluous Swetha Menon. The small Hindustani touches are the highlight of the song.
Vanthavanum Sari Illai …
Pazhaniammal
A folksy number to end the album. This one will surely strike the right chord with the masses with its earthy flavor. The voice of the female lead singer gives the necessary spunk to this song.
A female rants about her ill-luck with the men in her life. There is also a message for the men, about the bad effects of drinking alcohol. The ‘nadaswaram’ interludes go with the mood of the song.
Verdict: A nice effort with good variety. There are a couple of melodies, a nice folk number and an offbeat number thrown in the mix. This composer will be noted with interest in the coming days. Hope he gets good projects in future...

CHAPLIN SAAMANTHI MUSIC REVIEW
Review by : Kaushik L.M
Starring: Ilaiya, Dhiyana, Baby Kruthika
Direction: R Prakash
Music: Kannan
Production: R Manikandan
Vocals: Karthik, Thilaga, Selvam, Jipsy Rajkumar, Baby Harini, Mukesh
Lyrics: Viveka, R.Prakash, Kannan, Jipsy Rajkumar
The friendship that a small village girl shares with Charlie Chaplin seems to be the basic premise of Chaplin Saamanthi. This film stars newcomers and has been shot in and around Trichy. Director R.Prakash has been an assistant to director Balasekaran before. Baby Kruthika plays the role of Samanthi. Kannan of ‘Thamizh Padam’ fame has composed the music. Is it on the mark?
Nee Vanthu Pona…
Karthik, Thilaga
Lyrics: Viveka
The song soars straightaway. A nice melody with sweet vocals. Karthik sounds very different in this song. Or is it not the Karthik that everyone knows? The instrumentals are endearing. ‘Myna Myna’ shades are there particularly in the bass effect. A simple melody that strikes the right chord, nevertheless
Vellaiyilum Vellaiyaga…
Selvam, Jipsy Rajkumar
Lyrics: Jipsy Rajkumar
A street-play song on the lines of the famous Anbe Sivam song. A tribute to Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin, definitely a novel attempt for a Tamil song. A great experimental attempt but, not sure if it is exactly a repeat song on the everyday playlists. Thumbs up for the intentions and the novel idea behind the song.
Naan Charlie Chaplin Ponnu…
Baby Harini
Lyrics: Kannan, R.Prakash
A song for the kids by a kid. What’s expected is a cute song with light hearted instrumentals. This is exactly what this is. A nice one. Again a dedication to the comedy king through the eyes of a small girl.
Kavala Oor Kavala…
Mukesh
Lyrics: R.Prakash
Fast paced with very energetic vocals by Mukesh. ‘Puli Urumudhu’ revisited in no small measure. The lyrics reek of admiration and heroism. Mukesh’s flexibility and ease at pronouncing potential tongue twisters is admirable though.
Nee Vanthu Pona…
Thilaga
Lyrics: Viveka
The shorter version of the first duet. The female vocals were the highlight in that duet and those very same vocals have been used in a separate song as well. Thilaga is a talent to watch out for.
Verdict: An interesting effort from ‘Thamizh Padam’ fame Kannan. The tunes at places sound straight out of some old songs but, the theme of the film has been translated into few of the songs very well. A nice melody is thrown into the mix as well.

VINMEENGAL MUSIC REVIEW
Review by : Kaushik L.M
Starring: Rahul Ravindran, Vishwa, Shikha, Anuja Iyer
Direction: Vignesh Menon
Music: Jubin
Production: Maanas Film Corporation
Debutant director, Vignesh Menon, happens to be the grandson of late director K Shankar .His film is a family drama about everyday heroes. It has been extensively shot in Chennai and Ooty. Anuja Iyer is back on screen after a hiatus and Pandiarajan has an offbeat role in the film. Newcomer Jubin takes care of the music and let’s analyze his score …
Un Paarvai
Hariharan, Harini
A 6 mins song after quite a while. A neat melody without any gimmicks. Neat, uncluttered and simple. The pair that gave us some great melodies in the past is back – Harini and Hariharan. They sound delightful as ever. The song has some tastefully done instrumentals as well. The veena and flute soar. Good start to the album though it is a bit old fashioned for the FB crowd.
Vazhi Maari
Ajeesh
A short number with minimal instrumentals that talks about the magic of falling in love. Ajeesh sounds pleasant. Will depend on the visuals for better impact.
Nee Kattil
Shankar Mahadevan
Shankar Mahadevan is passionate and vociferous in this inspirational number. But, it is definitely not among his better efforts. The musical arrangement and the chorus are old fashioned. The instrumentals remind us of those patriotic numbers that Vidyasagar used to give with unfailing regularity.
Bhoomi Engum
Belly Raj
Elegant guitar start that is straight out of ‘Nirvana’. Such a low key and low pitched rendering by Belly Raj. Another song that might be a montage in the movie.
Ariya Paruvathil
Bombay Jayashree, Rahul Nambiar
Jayashree’s trademark strong and low pitched vocals are on show here. We have gotten used to her style. She sounds too dramatic in this number. The violin and string instrumentals stand out. Rahul makes an entry in the second stanza and it must be admitted that he is better suited for peppy foot tapping numbers and not melodies like this.
Kadhalum
Ajeesh, Karthika
Another situational slow number with no percussive accompaniments. Ajeesh sounds shaky. The intense violin bits sound really pathos ridden. The number has a Christmas choir effect.
Verdict: Another newcomer makes his debut and this maiden offering is average at best. All the songs have melody as the prime focus and Jubin has the potential to improve.
