It seems that this vegetable is rich in potassium, calcium, and dietary fibers... and hence is included in all high arthritic blood pressure patients' dietary charts...
Read somewhere that it can heal dry skin too. Ppl with kidney diseases..pls stay away from this....
All the searches on web could only get koottu or poriyal with this... do u guys make curry with it?
Hi Cindy,
You could make chow chow & meat (Beef/Mutton) curry - it's very tasty - the koottu with bengal gram is quite tasty too; you could use chow chow & make Curd Curry; Chow Chow could be used in Sambar too -
Best regards,
Pearl
Thank you so much Pearl...will try them surely...
You can make morkuzhambu with Chayote.
Cut the vegetable into small pieces. In a heavy bottom sauce pan, boil 1 cup of water and then add the vegetable pieces with a pinch of turmeric.
Use Innomix Chutney jar and grind 5 pieces of coconut, red chillies, 1 tsp jeera, 2 tsp coriander seeds, little bit of asafoetida, 4 tsp of pottukadalai (roasted chana dhal) , few curry leaves. Once all the ingredients are ground to a coarse paste, add tofu and grind again.
After the vegetable becomes soft and cooked, add the ground paste, add salt and let it come to a boil. Season it with mustard seeds, pinch of asafoetida and curry leaves. It is good with rice or dosa.
You can make thuvayal with chow chow as well as with their skin too!!
