Nature is so unfair. Or else it would not move so much beauty and talent into one family. The beautiful dancing sisters Lalita and Padmini pair up for the dance sequence of today's pick. They tease the bride and groom at a wedding. A lovely light dance with perfect expressions and gestures by the sisters. Of course the two singing voices are absolutely cute too.

thenRalE vArAyO (Vazhvile Oru Naal)
http://raretfm.mayyam.com/pow07/images/vazhvileoru1.jpg
Pick #997
Song: thenRalE vArAyO
Film: Vazhvile Oru Naal
Music: T.G.Lingappa & C.N.Pandurangam
Lyrics: One of (Thanjai Ramiahdas, C.A.Lakshmanadas, Ku.Sa.Krishnamoorthi, K.S.Gopalakrishnan)
Singers: U.R.Jeevaratnam, T.M.Sounderarajan
Year: 1956
Today's pick is another rare combination of voices. U.R.Jeevaratnam was a singing star of the 1940s. She made her debut as the lead actor in the film Bhakta Gowri(1941). A singer with a full voice and a unique tone U.R.Jeevaratnam went on to act and sing in many films in the 1940s until she married and retired from acting. In Vazhvile Oru Naal she is credited as "Isaikkuyil ThamizhisaiVaani U.R.Jeevaratnam" which shows the respect and admiration she enjoyed in the industry.
Vazhvile Oru Naal directed by A.Kasilingam with dialog by A.V.P.Asaithambi is one of the early family drama masala films. A loving couple is separated by greedy and vile bad guys. They grow old living apart. The son of the couple grows up and falls in love with the villain's daughter. To top it off, the son is now a police officer. You get the picture. This story has been recycled I don't know how many times in several languages in Indian films. The first writer who came up with this story and the first filmmaker who adapted it should both have their pictures permanently hanging on the Indian Cinema Museum's Wall of Shame.
However, today's song sequence is very beautiful. Sivaji Ganesan and G.Varalakshmi secretly meet in the moonlight and sing this song. The two actors have such great chemistry. The joy in their eyes, the smile on their faces, and their romance is all so real and believable. Very lovely!
