நான் இந்த படத்தை நெய்வேலி அமராவதி theatre ல் எங்க அப்பாவோட பார்தேன். அது ரொம்ப சுமார் theatre . எங்க அப்பாவுக்கு action படம் பிடிக்கும் அதனாலே என்ன அந்த படத்துக்கு கூட்டிட்டு போன்று
நாங்க போனது matinee ஷோ .

கதை :
ஒரு கிராமத்தில் ஒரு ரவுடி சமுக விரோத செயைல்கள் செய்கிறான் . (ஆனந்தராஜ்) ராஜதுரை அந்த ஊருக்கு அவன் மனைவி (Jayasudha ) மற்றும் மூன்று வயது மகன் (VK ) உடன் வந்து அவனை பிடித்து தண்டனை வாங்கி தருகிறான் . (VK). அந்த ரவுடி ராஜதுரை in மகனை கடத்தி வளர்கிறான் ( Vijay /Arun ) ஏனென்றால் அவன் ராஜதுரை கிட்ட அவனை பழி வாங்குவேன் என்று சவால் செய்திருக்கன் (கத்தி இன்றி ரத்தம் இன்றி துடிக்க வெய்கிறேன் என்று ). 20 வருடம் கழிது அருண்
அந்த பையன் தான் விஜயகாந்த் அவன் கஞ்சா கடத்தும் பொது தந்தையிடம் பிடிபடுகிறான். அந்த ரவுடி அவனை ஜாமீன் கொடுத்து அவனை அழைத்து செல்கிறான் .
அப்பொழது சவாலை பத்தி ஞாபகம் படுத்துகிறான்

கேப்டன் இக்கு ஒரு திருடியாய் கல்யாணம் செய்து அதுக்கு ராஜதுரை வந்து அவமானத்தை சகிதிகொல்கிரன் .


பெத்தவங்க ஆசிர்வாதம் வேணும்னு சொல்லி விஜயகாந்தை அவன் அப்பாவிடம் அனுப்பி அவங்களுக்கு மெண்டல் torture குடுக்கிறான் .

ஜெயசுதா மரணமடைகிறாள் . அருண் உண்மைய புரிந்து ஆனந்தராஜ் எப்படி பழிவாங்கிரன் என்பது கிளைமாக்ஸ்

Performance:
விஜயகாந்த் டபுள் ரோல் : அப்பா & மகன் ஏற்கனவே பார்த்து பழகியே கதை என்றாலும் இந்த படம் சிறந்த பொழுதுபோக்கு படம்

Its always a treat to watch double action movies be it any star. Here its captain. Captain as old inspector was too good particularly his voice modulation between 2 Vk was super. Few actors would bring voice differences if they played dual roles one is Kamal sir & other one is Captain. VK is fit & chic in this movie.
Old VK himself comes in disguise of his son in front of Jayasudha as Anandraj refuses to send Arun it was a nice sentiment scene.
Jayasudha is good as wife of elder VK.
Sivaranjani is the heroine does not have much work.
R.Sundarajan comedy does not work.
Anandraj plays villan again in this movie he has got enough scope to perform which he does .
Bhanupriya dance with VK is inspired from Rajini’s Hum song .
Intro stunt of Arun (VK) stunt with Thalapathy Dinesh was awesome.
Vk speaking in bedroom with one Vk coming around is inspired/lifted from Vaathiyar’s Nadodi Mannan. Vk requesting Anandraj to send his son to meet his wife is inspired from Thangapadakam.
Story: Shoba
Music:2-3 songs are good to hear
Directon: SA Chandrasekar

Final Word: Typical 80’s - 90’s movie but with a difference, can watch for Vijaykanth entertainment

Almost everyone who signed Sivaranjani on those days had a lot of "work" for her to compensate for her salary - especially in song sequences. I barely remember a Sivaranjani movie without "work" for her - Thaalattu(medhuva thandhi), raasamagan(anju gajam and kathirundhEn), Thalaivaasal(unnai thotta), Passmark(eRikkayyA rickshawvula)*, Vandicholai Sinrasu(Some song with Sathyaraj's nephew), Kathirukka Neramillai....etc etc.

*Yeah, Passmark. I bet none of you have heard of a movie called Passmark.

A typical action movie from captain produced by Rawuthar( Many movies from different banner name were produced by him)
VK is granted imprisonment and is jailed with 4 imamates. VK narrates his story to them.
VK lives with his brother SPB (ram ) and Sumithra SPB’s wife. They are leading a happy life . VK loves Banupriya a journalist . VK is a professional boxer. Once on his boxing tour to Banglore VK meets SPB who comes to meet him to discuss a urgent issue and they decide to meet after the match but SPb do not turn up instead calls him over phone but before he discuss an important issue phone call is cut. VK returns to Chennai with Banupriya nad enquires with Sumithra who reveals that his brother his disturbed.

VK sets to find his brother and comes across Chandrasekar (drunkard ) who reveals his brother whereabouts can be known if he fights with Ponnambalam and Vk does it. Chandrasekar eveals Gangadharan(Anandraj) knows about his brother.
VK is arrested for assaulting ponnabalam but released in bail as Auditor Sridhar(Lawyer) helps him out. He is their family friend. VK meets Anandraj but nothing comes from him.
During their seond meeting Vk assaults Anandraj .
Anandraj keeps SPB underground as SPB ‘s factory was used for drug manufacture and he has all the evidence against Anandraj.
Finally when Anandraj gets evidence he kills SPB and lets VK knows about it. VK is arrested for murder of his brother.
As expected the charge is proved even his family friend is aginst him and Sumithra dies (illegal relationship was the reason given for murder of SPB)

Now VK & his friends escapes and sets a 24 hours deadline to kill the enemies. Banupriya helps in his mission. Napolean , Specail officer is after them.
Rest is to be seen on silver screen
Performance: This role fits Captain like a glove. Stunts are too good and believable
Banupriya ‘s chemistry withVK and her dance movements, few comic interludes are treat ot watch
SPB & sumithra make a decent ,apt elderly pair that you pity them when they die.
Anandraj is cool vilan playing piano
Napolean is like Arjun in Mankata plays second fiddle to VK
Surprise is young Vasu vikram
Song & BGm suits the tempo sepecially pottathelam vettri kallu was too good
Written & directed by SD Saba who has done VIP with prabu Deva
Highlights: Racy Screenplay: 2nd half, Market fight.
Final Verdict: Must watch for Captain’s fans & for action lovers. This movie is logic with action.

I saw this movie in VHS cassette so cannot write about theatre experience .

Sethupathi IPS

Terrorism against India is escalated heavily by Indians trained abroad. Sethupathi IPS (Vijayakanth) is a very efficient cop whose entire family has served the country at some time — his mother Satyabhama (Srividya) is an IAS Officer, his maternal grandfather was a soldier who got a medal for killing 200 enemies (a medal which Sethupathi secretly covets), and his father in law (Vijayakumar) is an Inspector General of Police.

Sethupathi catches terrorist Sivasubramaniam in a hospital and coaxes him to reveal information that their gang is planning a terrorist strike on the Prime minister of India during his meeting with Chief Ministers of various states in Chennai. After divulging this information (owing to the kindness and pity shown by Sethupathi), the terrorist commits suicide with Sethupathi's gun. Using the information Sethupathi is able to save the day and the Prime minister.

Sivasubramaniam's death leads to his brother Sivaprakasham (Raj Mohan) arriving in India. Sivaprakasham is also the leader of this terrorist gang and in addition to the terror strike the gang is planning to launch in India, he also plans to wipe out Sethupathi's family.

Moving opposite to Sethupathi's house, Sivaprakasam pretends to be a very nice man "Satyaprakasham" and manages to fool Sethupathi's mother, wife (Meena), sister, and grandfather and convinces all of them of his true intentions to such an extent that they agree to his engagement with their mute daughter Saraswathi. Sivaprakasam avoids Sethupathi and sees to it that during both the engagement and the wedding Sethupathi is occupied so that he cannot come face to face with Sivaprakasam.

After the wedding the Terrorists take over a school where Sethupathi's wife (Meena) is a teacher and demand for a plane and money to take them abroad. Sivaprakasam brings his wife (Sethupathi's sister) and watches her get gang raped until Sethupathi's wife shoots her, unable to bear her suffering. Sivaprakasam also shoots a boy student of class v.

As the terrorists escape the school towards the plane and take off, Sethupathi has arrived after having killed one of their number, and disguising himself, he elimitates all of them including Sivaprakasam and lands the plane safely (on instructions of the injured pilot).

The movie ends with Sethupathi receiving his coveted grandfather's medal


PEFORMANCE:
Captain is rocking in this movie be it in fights(need no mention), sentiment scenes.
Especially bomb diffusing scene in clock, Spencer plaza fight, Interval block fight was superb.
Meena has ample scope to play her role in terms of glamour, perfomrance
Nambiar : Routine in VK movie is majestic for the role even Sreevidya is elegant & majestic.
Kasan khan , Sanjay & others are villans
Comedy by GOundamani, Senthil is treat as it is being played in comedy channels even now.
The film marked the 200th appearance of comedy duo Goundamani and Senthil.
It is one of biggest blockbuster for AVm, Captain ,P. Vasu.

Music was fabulous as all the songs were topping the charts
BGM was grand for action films as its none other than Ilayaraja

As usual I saw it in Neyveli Devirathna theatre Sunday 10 o Clock show. It was houseful family crowd It ran for 25 days .In Neyveli if a movie runs for 10 days its a hit because movie comes there (those days) only if it does good business in other places.
I enjoyed the movie to the core especially the fights that I used to jump with toy gun like VK's fight in spencer plaza and play with my friends

Chinna Gounder

The movie begins with a sessions judge watching the proceedings of a panchayat of Thavasi(Chinna Gounder) . He solves a big issue pending for many years easily which paves way for enimity between him and his brother in law(Salim Gouse). Manorama is Vk’s mother Sukanya rears goats and plays with boys and encounters with Chinna Gounder. Goundamani and senthil are laundary men in the village
All goes well enter Sukanyas’s Sister and a graduate who clashes over for Government teacher post which is given to Sukanya’s sister . Dejected Malaichamy joins Salim gouse. Situations lead to VK & Sukanya’s marriage
Captain loses an opportunity in auction of river contract for fishing the very next day the river is poisoned and all fishes are dead and VK is accused & malaichamy is on the way to falsely accused Chinnagounder but is killed by Sukanya.

Interval

Vk meets Sukanya who reveals the reason . Vk goes out of the town to meet a lawyer to bail her wife but Manorama is made to sit in panchayat as a case against Vk in the village. Manorama is forced to drink poisoned water but is saved by VK .
Meanwhile Saleemgouse arranges marriage for his daughter while Sukanya’s sister gets pregnant & VK accepts that he is the reason for pregnancy . The whole Village turns against VK and he loses his pride , and he moves to GOundamani’s house who is the only one who believes him.
Meanwhile Sukanya’s bail plea is accepted and she meets her sister who reveals that he loved Malaichamy and Malaichamy is the reason for her pregnancy and VK lied to the village as it might spoil the reputation of the family and dies.
In final encounter Salim gouse tries to kidnap her own daughter only to be saved by VK.
Salim gouse reveals that he was the one who killed Malaichamy and he poisoned the river .
Everyone ignores him in the end Vk reveals that the very idea of this panchayat is to make a man realize the mistakes and not to punish him.


Triva:
The movie is criticized /remembered for playing a top in Sukanya’s navel.
The movie was a roaring hit in A,B, C centers
The success of the movie had a major impact that Thlaivar Rajini who was about to work with RV Udayakumar in a movie Jilla Collector wished to work with rural subject after Murattukaalai and its Yejaman.
All songs were pure melodies and were topping the charts
The comedy track of Goundamani & Senthil was a major highlight of this movie.
Even Vk’s towel green colour with embroidery is popular along with his hairstyle is still popular that persons who mimicks Vk does in this costume.
The movie has a great value as it is played in TV again & again.
Vadivelu plays a comic role thereby makes his presence felt after a few years os struggle
Director Dharani is the assistant director in his original name Ramani.
The movie was remade in telugu as ChinnaRayudu with Venkatesh & Vijayasanthi and was a hit.

As usual myself and my fahte rwent for matinee show in neyveli but in Sriram Non A/c thatre for my father he loved movies that too he loved Udumalpet, Pollachi areas so we went there but at that time I didn’t like the movie as I liked only action VK but in this movie action is limited but Now I like this movie but it was a houseful show remember it was after 2 weeks that too matinee show and neyveli population was very minimal just remember the success ratio of the movie

Performance:
VK is a treat to watch as he excels in sentiment, action, helplessness when his wife is accused , sorrow when Sukanya rejects money which Vk offers when she saves Manorama, a particular scene which I liked was when Sukanya meets Manorama she will laugh remembering their verbal duel with her , Manorama will laugh, People will laugh VK has no other option he will look around and will laugh
His role is honest ( Ruler), Magnanimous( Helping needy) Love( Wife, Moher) Playful( Wife’s sister), Anger( Brother in law), Bravery( Accepting a mistake Not committed by him)
Sukanya has a solid role initially as a bubbly village belle , caring sister, honest, sincere girl with self respect, loving wife caring for her family’s pride a memorable role.
For a hero to excel, people to enjoy a villan must be apt to make a hero run on his heels Salim gouse does it with ease. His office is mesmerizing as well as menancing.
Manorama deserves no word of praise as as she always performs above par in any role here her teeth was an attraction considering her age its shows her dedication. AACHI get well soon
GOundamani& Senthil Comedy in this movie is evergreen cannot single out a scene which is bad.
A very good movie from RV Udayakumar pity that he did not work other movie with Captain.

Final word : A must watch it’s a classic village story which highlights the values villages

Honest raj

As the name suggests Captain plays a honest cop for nth time in Sathyajothi fims flick directed by KS Ravee who remade this movie in hindi and also directed Mr. Romeo.
The movie is a hardcore action movie and the tempo begins with title card with a superb BGM from Ilayaraja.
HonestRaj is in comma for 4 years and is treated in hospital by Gowthami assisted by Senthil .One fine day he recovers and Gowtami conveys it to AC Muttaih( Ajay Rathinam). Ponnambalam is sent to kill him Senthil Kidnaps Vk along with Gowtami to unknown place.
The story moves in flash back. Vk is an umemployed youth who spoils a bank robbery and is encouraged by Vijaykumar , Assistant Commissioner to write Civil service exam.
VK & Manorama comes to their village . Devan (Varadhan) is their friend like a brother to VK. Captain’s cousin (Aamni) tries to woo Captain meanwhile Varadhan’s father dies and Captain & his mother settle his debts as Varadhan is humiliated as he does not have a penny. His printing press is given on lease.
Aamni marries Captain who gets selected to IPS training.
Varadhan accidentally enters into his printing press and sees that fake currency notes are being printed and he does it and feels happy and he join hands with the Palani who has given debt and is lessor to this press who prints fake notes.
But he double crosses Varadhan as he secretly photographs while Varadhan prints notes Nizhalgal Ravi reveals it and he is killed & Varadhan kills Palani and gets full control of fake notes business. He becomes a big shot in a span of 3 years.
Honestraj comes with his family to pray to their family deity and he receives anonymous call about counterfeit note racket and he catches them red handed. He hand overs them to police , Subbaiah (Ajay Rathinam , inspector) is hesitant to arrest them Honest Raj reveals that he is ASP Crime branch & orders for an enquiry if not possible he will come at the evening
INTERVAL
When Honest Raj is on his way to Police station Varadhan comes for lunch and thereby delays Vk from going to Police station in meantime witness persons in police station are killed.
The next day in temple VK meets Nizhalgal Ravi (who was presumed to be dead) and reveals that he has certain photographs and VAradhan is the Master brain behind this racket.
VK asks Varadhan to surrender whereas Varadhan asks for a warrant . When Varadhan tries for it Magistrate does not give it.
Honestraj contacts Vijaykumar and he speaks to minister and Magistrate is ordered to issue warrant. Magistrate delays it meanwhile the whole family of VK is murdered by Varadhan& Ponnambalam. VK sends Senthil to Chennai along with evidence
When Vk returns home, his only son is to be shot, VK saves him and is being shot

Movie moves to current phase Where Vijaykumar is informed by Senthil about HonestRaj’s recovery and he comes to Chennai whereas Ponnmbalam traces the number and hurts Vijaykumar in the airpot and kidnaps VK’s son.
Gautami, Illegitimate child of minister meets her father and shows the evidence who hands over the case to AC Muttaih and keeps the evidence himself.
VAradhan blackmails Raj that he must give back the file as an exchange for his son
In the end VK seeks revenge and moves with his son, Vijaykumar, Senthil and Gautami.

Triva:
 It is one of the successful movie of VK as police officer.
 Though VK is police officer he does not wear Police dress
 Aamni who is the heroine married Kajamoiden of ROja combines which produced Perarasu
 Devan plays a villan role and he played roles in various movies after this movie like Baasha, Ragasiya Police etc
 Anandraj, a regular villan in Captain’s movie was missing in the movie it was a change
 It was a another successful combo of Captain with Gautami after Rajanadai, Senthoorapandi
 This is the first movie of Captain with Satyajothi films
 It is again a blockbuster for Vijaykanth
 The climax fight was a highlight . POnnamblam was over 100 kgs whereas Captain was 80 kgs , Ponnambalam kicks Captain in his chest & Captain was admitted in hospital and shooting began after treatment (Ponnambalam in an interview)
 The Re recording was fabulous
 The song Kattura kattura was a hit and was considered glamorous those days
 The movie was remade in Hindi with Raguvarn playing villan role & directed by KS Ravee




Performance:

VK as a coma patient and as apolice officer does a good job and fights are fabulous

Aamni is glamourous heroine in first half and acts well in scene in the scene in which she dies.
Manorama plays a honest banker, caring mother, brave mother when she dies
Devan ‘s character is from being poor and opportunist becomes evil person thereby kills his friend’s family.


Final Verdict: A good treat for Action lovers and a must watch for Captain’s fans.

ALEXANDER
This is the first collaboration of KR with Captain. This is the second movie of Captain with Panchu Arunachalam PA Arts after stupendous success of Enga Mudhalali.
KR who regularly worked for PA arts for comedy movies like Mayabazaar 1995, Vana Girijaja etc did a investigative thriller with Captain.
The story opens with a chase by goons and Rataan is presumed to be dead and a information about drug smuggle and VK nabs the culprits who is the brother of Ashok(Prakash Raj), involved in Hawala transaction.
The court warns Alex for his rough handling of criminals while Ashok’s younger brother is killed & Alex is handling the case, he finds a lady bracelet.He suspects Sangeetha’s connection in Murder

Alex reveals that he is a CBI officer and he was the groom selected by his father meanwhile war between Ashok& Alex increases like Ashok fixing a bomb to kill Alex’s wife

Rattan meanwhile meets Sangeeta and Alex and reveals that , he is the Assistant of Nizhalgal Ravi and they prepared a file for arresting Ashok Brothers and their role in Hawala transactions & Ashok’s younger brother killed Ravi but he has given the file to Rattan and he reveals CBI director (Rajasekar is corrupt).Rattan is shot dead and he gives a clue about the file and dies
Alex gets the file ,Sangeetha reveals that he was blackmailed and kidnapped for the file and she killed Ashok’s younger brother in a duel
How Alex brings the secret and nabs Ashok and others is the climax.

Sakarai Devan

Sakarai Devan (VK) is a Jaggery Merchant who is very successful in his business . His mother goes to another village to seek a bride (Kanaka) for VK but Kanaka is a tom boy and they reject the proposal which results in death of Kanaka’s father. VK (unknowingly that Kanaka was the person which her mother rejected) settles his father’s debts, performs last rites of her father and brings her home . Vk’s mother promises to marry her with VK
Meanwhile Sugarcane farmers are tortured by Mohan Natrajan VK promises to settle their debt . MN Nambiyar asks him to stay in their village and says that his grandson had chopped Mohan’s hand as he misbehaved with Sukanya (Nasar’s sister) and he is in jail. Kanaka saves a girl child who is the daughter of Nasar. Sukanya& VK starts loving each other.
Kanaka gets married to Nasar as VK says that he considered Kanaka as his sister.
Everything is fine but Mohan comes to know about VK& Sukanya’s love and he meets Nasar and reveals it , poisons his mind and withdraws the case.
When farmers intend to start a mill under VK’s leadership the plan is spoiled because
As per the agreement the farmers must give sugarcane to Mohan’s & Nassar mill which VK spoils as he get to know the loopholes of agreement
Nassar threatens Kanaka to fire farmland and to put the blame on VK which does not work as VK cleverly thwarts it what happens next is climax

VK is at home completely with this character .I guess both the heroines must be after success of ChinnaGounder & Koil Kalai . I have no idea about success of the movie but I enjoyed the movie with my family its my favorite.

It’s a revenge story but with a difference . Vk’s father and his sister is murdered by three people . They escape from jail and commit the murders. VK& his mother could not prove it.

After few years Vk’s sister becomes a Police inspector. VK has only aim i.e. to avenge the murderers as he belierother oves Law is not strong & has many loopholes resulting in contradictions between sister and brother .
VK saves a bar dancer and she gives him bail after VK is arrested by his own sister . The dancer starts loving VK .
VK’s sister reopens the case the villans send a person to kill her . VK saves her and befriends the person who tried to kill her sister
VK frequently visits the dancer’s house she lives with his handicapped father. She reveals that she was to be raped by a person but miraculously escaped .
The person(who tried to rape Vk’s lover) is one among the murderer . So VK hatches a plan kills him
One day he sees another murderer and kills him, which causes a problem to his sister’s job and she tries to nab VK which does not happen.
Next VK tries to kill main villan(Sangili Murugan) and succeeds.

VK is an orphan & Jayabarathi adopts him. He is a coffin maker. Vk loves his brother. His brother is well educated. His brother and Anandraj’s sister fall in love which Anandraj opposes and beats Vk’s brother black and blue. VK resolves to marry them but in an expected twist happens as he gets money from Anandraj in exchange of his brother’s love

Why he does so? Is VK a villan. You have to watch it

A scientist discovers a blood clotting medicine and is on his way to Moscow to submit his theory . The plane which he travels is hijacked by three terrorists who escapes from prison and they wish to go to Karachi.
The pilot Arunpandiyan & Napolean lands it in Kashmir. Mansoor Alikhan is the terrorist there and he keeps the passengers as hostage. The three prisoners reveal that they are terrorists and reveals that there is a scientist in this group who has the secret formula of blood clotting medicine. Only Napolean knows the true identity of scientist .
Mansoor Alikhan kills a paseenger daily and Arun Pandiyan dies in a fight.
In Chennai VK lives with his father Pelisivam, a fisherman and a friend of scientist . He asks his son to go to Kashmir to save his dear friend. VK singles out the black sheep responsible for scientist’s kidnap( No spoilers) he takes the training in shooting and he leaves with scientist ‘s adopted daughter Ranjitha on a mission to save the scientist
INTERVAL

VK & Ranjitha manages to trespass into the palce of Mansoor(snow bear ) and confuses that he is a scientist . How VK & Napolean manages to save passengers , save the formula and escape from Snow bear forms the rest of the movie.

Though It is a subject that is often seen & critisicised in Captain movies it had meaning ful scenes depicting about controversies of Kashmir.
Interval block fighting scene is shot in Highway of Chennai where Vallarasu (Intro Fight), Vanchinathan(Where Thiyagu will be shot), Narashimsa(Intro fight) may be Captain’s favourite shooting spot.

Performance:

Mansoor Alikhan plays a villan the nth time but he gives a nice performance his makeup deserves a special mention. VK is the only actor who used Mansoor’s talent and gave him variety of roles to perform.
Arunpandiyan does a macho fight and he is apt for the role
Napolean carry on the proceedings till captain’s arrival with great screen presence
Mohini is a airhostess she fits the role like a dutiful airhostess
Ranjitha is the heroine first anger then surprise over Vk’s brain she delivers a good performance
Rattan plays a scientist , a sophisticated role again with ease
Vivek, Balu Anand, Thiyagu are comedians in the movie
Pelisivam , a constant in VK’s movie plays a role of Vk’s father who has lot of compassion for his friend
Last but not least about Captain
He plays the role of illiterate fisherman who has to do an impossible task of rescuing a scientist in Kashmir.
The ploy which he adopts to single out culprit responsible for scientist kidnap is a good twist
The scenes between VK & Mansoor are hilarious initially and turns out into action mode towards the end
Analysis:

The movie offered a novelty of hijack in those days. When this movie was released there was a hype considering the star cast, VK, Film students also songs were played continuously and was a hit but the movie ended as above average .

Watch it for technical Brilliance racy second watch A good entertaining movie but with a difference

Maanagara Kaaval is directed by M. Thiyagarajan, starring Vijayakanth, Suma Ranganathan, M. N. Nambiar, Lakshmi, Nassar, Anandaraj and Senthil.

PLOT:
The movie begins with Anandraj killing a security of PM while he is on jogging in Delhi, Suma is the witness . She along with Chinni goes to Chennai for her dance performance. Anandraj follows her.
VK saves Suma from local goons and she falls in love with him . Subash is an Assistant Commisonner and he is an upright officer and he arrests Vannai Valavan(Thiyagu) in front of PM (Lakshmi).
Subash(VK) comes to know that Suma is the witness for the murder which was committed by Robin(Anandraj) . So Subash keeps her in his custody in a hotel where Robin comes to kill her VK saves her. As Anandraj has committed major crimes in Delhi VK is ordered to take Robin to Delhi where he is fooled by Robin’s men and they take him away.

INTERVAL

VK resides in Suma’s house and tries to find Robin as he is suspended from Police during an encounter he chances to meet his sister who was believed to be dead . Her husband is Naasar who VK suspects as a culprit in escaping Robin. The ruling party’s No 2 Mehta plots to Kill PM hiring robin
Together they decide to raid the ruling party’s No: 2 Metha as they feel Robin is hiding there but could not trace him . Robin impersonates as security guard (In place of security whom he killed) to kill PM on Jan 26th
How VK stops that is a thrilling climax.

Anandraj: Another villan whom VK used very well and gave him great scope to perform by variety of roles the scenes in which he comes is scary credit is equally shared by BGM. He has done a nice job because for a action movie a villan must be strong to test the hero only then we can enjoy the movie
Lakshmi: Perfect choice for lady PM a replica of real life character in terms of dressing, speaking, walking amazing performance from veteran
Vaishnavi: Plays a sister role again but this time she looks daring when arguing with this dear brother
MN Nambiar: Even a Lion becomes old , It’s a Lion . Only person who can command VK as a senior Police officer.

The prestigious 100th film of Captain .
Mappi kindly excuse I may give away few points in the story as many of them might have seen this movie.
PLOT:

Natural wealth (Forest) is depleted by Sandalwood Smuggler Veerabhadran (played by Mansoor Ali Khan) is loosely based on the forest brigand Veerappan and he kills every officer who tries to nab him. MLA and local influential people are supporting him .
Rajaraman IFS (Sarathkumar) is posted to Sathyamangalam and he loves Ramya Krishnan a village belle whose brother works for Veerabhadran. They have a live in relationship . Based on clue of smuggling Rajaraman averts smuggling which results in anger of Veerabhadran who kills his cousins

Rajaraman in an operation to nab him is killed by Veerabhadran
Rajaraman’s mother and sister comes to Chennai (and is saved by VK from being raped by local police) to intimate that Rajaram is missing to VK his family friend.
VK asks for a transfer to Sathyamangalam which results as a shock to politicians who try to stop him (including his father in Law, a Minister) but could not. Prabhakaran isnot only going to nab Veerabhadran but also to avenge the death of his friend Rajaraman IFS (Sarathkumar) who was a forest officer killed by Veerabhadran and he holds himself responsible for death of Rajaram as he was transferred to Sathyamangalam by his Father in Law as he was instrumental in helping Vk marrying Roopini.
An attempt o kill Vk in the train does not work and Vk soon becomes a thorn in Veerabhadran’s neck making him unable to smuggle and he devoid them food supply. He also strengths Security in checkpost


Kitty(Livingston niece of Veerabhadran , whose family is killed by Veerabhadran) controls other part of forest and Veerabhadran offers him partnership but kidnaps Ramya and in another attempt VK captures Veerabhadran’s right hand(Vijay Eswar, Constant in VK’s Film) but the credit goes to MLA as Police commissioner, collector are corrupt and supporters of Veerabhadran and Prabhakaran conveys it to the press against protocol of Govt. and CM asks him explanantion and after being satisfied gives him force & weapons under guidance of MN Nambiyar.
Veerabhadran kidnaps Prabhakaran's wife and son. Prabhakaran comes in correct time saves his wife, son and nabs Veerabhadran and brings Ramya’s child to Coimbatore where a function is organized. Veerabhadran is shot dead by corrupt inspector and collector. Prabhakaran kills both of them and he is dragged to court for killing police inspector and collector. Prabhakaran tells the truth that they were corrupt and the film ends with Prabhakaran being released from the court.

Nallavan

Guru and Raja (Vijaykanth ) are identical twins. Guru is a successful lawyer while Raja is unemployed helping people in trouble.He helps to nab a smuggling case and saves Radhika . On his second encounter he falls in love with Vani Vishwanath. Guru's marriage gets fixed to the collector Ponni (Radhika) and on the day of their marriage Raja is kidnapped in Kashmir by some goons.
The leader of the gang, Vikram (Kitty) shows him a photo where he is stabbing a girl with a knife. Instantly Raja realizes that it is Guru. Vikram blackmails Raja thinking he is Guru. Raja plays along and manages to get away from him.
Back home Raja unravel the truth about his brother.
Raja has to impersonate Guru to save his family

Behind the scenes
Kalaipuli Dhanu wished to do a movie with SP Muthuraman. SP muthuraman who regularly did movies with Rajini & Kamal was approached with a script by Kalaipuli Dhanu (Story, Screenplay, Dialouges , music) which SPM gladly agreed and the movie kickstarted with stars like Rajini and other leading doyens from film industry attending the Poojai
The unit went to Kashmir . The shooting equioments and artists reached the top with the help of an animal like Zebra and shot the songs. If they start in the morning they could reach only by afternoon on the very first day in Kashmir food could not be reached and they managed with buiscuits and fruits
The next day when they were about to shoot the remaining portion of songs SPM noticed about 100 lorries standing in a queue unable to move due to snowfall and conveyed the same to fight master Subbarayan & VK to shoot for fight sequence so they shot fight sequence
As expected fight sequence got a huge response from audience.
The climax scene involved 2 VK, Radhika, Kitty, Thiyagu and other fighters were shot on a grand scale. Kindly imagine the hardwork involved in shooting such scenes as too much of snow is bad for eyes , you can see all artistes wearing leather jackets .

The script required 2 heroines one Radhika( Last movie with Captain), Vani(2nd movie with Captain first was Poonthota Kavalkaran)

VK plays a dual role while the role of lawyer Guru character is underplayed , Raja’s role is as usual action role .

MN Nambiar, Manimala & others fit the bii.

VERDICT:

Plot :
A group of college girls come to Chola Picnic Village. They take a room in a hotel at that Picnic Spot. It becomes night and it is a full moon day. They go out the beach, lit a bonfire and enjoy by singing and dancing for . After the song gets over,all the girls return to the Hotel. One of them is missing, She comes across a bell hung and rings it for 3 times. Then a old woman gets up on hearing the bell sound and looks scarily on both the sides and then again goes to sleep a man is found to stand on the cocking cart with a cigar in his mouth. He looks into her eyes gets hold her hair and takes her along with him.
The next scene shows Raja( Chandrasekar) enters into the Chola Picnic Village. He introduces himself as Assistant Editor in Dhinamurasu Magazine and enquires that four to five days before a girl's body was found floating in the Picnic Village's Beach the father refuses to answer and asks him who has given him permission to enter the picnic village.
Then scene shifts to Editor Chandran's house where they develop the negative and chandran comments that the Ravi’s look is so weird and raja also asserts it.Additionally raja also says their behaviour is also weird and some mystery is hidden behind them. Then chandran asks raja to take the photo of the father and says that these are essentials for their project. Then chandran enquires about Vandikaran Peter to raja and raja says that he was forced to go out of the village. Then Chandran enquires to raja,how he is getting such sensational news.For that raja replies that he has a known person in alleged suspect's house and her name is Uma and she is a steno.
The alleged suspect is none other than MLA Sattaanathan.Phone rings in the MLA's house She picks up the phone and says that a person name PRK wants to talk with MLA.Uma overhears their conversation through her phone.PRK says to Sattaanathan that a Editor came to Picnic village to enquire about the girl's death that took place last week and MLA says that he would take care of that issue.

The next morning chandran while working at his office receives a phone call from an inspector who states that why does he unnecessarily investigates the girl's case.For that chandran says that investigation is a press's work,the police abuses him and in response chandran asks him to mind his words.Chandran asks him to put the headnews in the news paper regarding the girl's murder.
Raja says ask permission for a half-day as Vijay(Raja's friend) is today coming to his house from his native and also asks employment for vijay in Dhinamurasu and chandran asks him to come with his friend tomorrow
The next scene shifts to raja and devi spending a time in hotel, she says that every month at Sattanaathan's house , a meeting takes place where a person representing the picnic village will also participate.She also says that most of the happenings that are going to happen in the state are decided by the picnic village's representative.She also says that during last meeting they decided to transfer DSP deenathayalan to some other police station, as he has investigated the case and reported it to be a murder as opposed to suicide.He also requests her to inform him about the meeting whenever it is arranged
Jai asks his persons to sign a partnership deed,stating when the company gains momentum, they could share the profit among themselves instead of treating them as simply laborers.Everyone sign it and sentimentally the power failure is restored giving them a ray of hope that they would surely win in their field
Sattanathan comes to know that documents relating to picnic villagae are missing & finds that Uma is the culprit and she is raped and killed. His lover and Thevar inform police but it falls in deaf ears
Enter Deenadhayalan (VK) he enquires but no one gives evidence . Ratnasabapathy (Visu) becomes the witness . VK, Arun, Chandrasekar goes to Uma’s house but his father is killed on their way a small fight takes place where vijay,raja and DSP drive away the thugs.The thugs have actually arrived to Uma's house to take back the requisites for arresting sattanathan which she had stolen from sattanathan's house.When they are driven away all the three,DSP sees a photo of PRK.

Then the scene shifts to a newly married couple,Ramesh and shanthi,coming for honeymoon to chola picnic village.They spend the time merrily,but during that time they are being watched by the Old woman .
PRK comes and tries to catch Shanti(Sasikala) but she escapes and Kishmu admits her in a hospital . Chandrasekar takes care of her . In an attempt to kill her chandrasekar gets killed.
So VK keeps her in his custody(in his home) . Vk’s wife Saritha takes care of her. She too gets killed. Now Vk, Arun, Jai , Visu join hands and they ask Kokila(Arun pandiyan’s lover) to roam in picnic village. Peter, a horseman reveals the secret of PRK and the old women.
Actually PRK loved a girl with expressive eyes but she dumped him which made him furious and decided to kill the girls whoever came to this place ,Minister is also a partner to this crime. The old woman is step mother of PRK
Ramesh(Karthik presumed to be dead is alive), Vijay, Jai, Kokila all are held as hostages by PRK.
Meanwhile VK & Visu arrange for a press conference and requests the press people to delay the delivery of news papers which they all agrees
VK proceeds to the spot with force and kills PRK , Jai is injured in fire accident but he manages to gather the evidence, Karthik joins with his wife, Arun Pandiyan wins his love, Dinamurasu becomes a famous newspaper

Behind the scenes:

VK was very busy in those years like Thalaivar Rajini in late 80’s working 16 movies per year that time Chinnasamy approached Chandrasekar and Vk’s dear friend Ibrahim for Vk’s call sheet.
At first VK was furious as he did not even have time to sleep . Respecting Ibrahim words he agreed for night shoots for only a week . It was planned as a guest role initially but seeing the crew’s hard work VK gave an extended call sheets and landed in a memorable role.

VK lives with his elder brother (Nagesh), sister-in-law (Srividya), and their little daughter. He spends his time idly he is scolded by his brother so VK becomes a coolie and transports articles . He is jailed for smuggling . His brother gets into accident at work at the mill and loses his arms. He loses his job and needs money for treatment. VK is released. VK begs his brother's boss (Radharavi), but he refuses. VK breaks into the boss' safe to get the money but it's too late as the brother dies.
The boss throws VK in jail. This is where he meets the men and decide to take revengeand he is bent on seeking vengeance In jail, VK meets the warden (Jai), a smart, ethical, strong man, whose daughter was kidnapped by one of the prisoners when she was little. After his release,he is a different, stronger man. He and his accomplices steal the gold that the boss had been smuggling at the mill. VK,his accomplices lie to his sister-in-law They move from poverty into riches.
VK and his men snatch a diamond which is very rare and he wins it But Roopini steals it(fake diamond) . Roopini’s father(Vijayan) is killed by Radharavi. Vijayan was once a henchmen of Radharavi (Vijayan was assigned to kill Jai & his family in an accident Jai’s wife is killed and Vijayan keeps the child with him)
Roopini is now reformed . Vk & Roopini falls in love and for their engagement he buys all the flowers in the city so Jai grew suspicious and starts following VK
Radharavi buys a counterfeit machine which is spoilt by VK enraged by this Radharavi spills the beans to Vk’s sister-in-law (Srividya) that VK is a smuggler. Srividya urges Vk to leave this business
Vk accepts but in a surprise turnover SS Chandran(Assistant of Radharavi) is killed and VK is accused and lands in jail again
Radharavi kidnaps VK’s sister-in-law and forces her mother to testify against VK in a murder trial. He is found guilty for a murder he didn't commit and escapes from prison to find his niece. Radharavi tries to escape with gold coated with gold (inspired by Bond Movie)
Radharavi reveals to the warden that he was the one who had kidnapped his daughter 20 years ago, and now it's the grownup Roopini .
What happens is the end?

Behind the Scenes:
Many of them are aware of the friendship between Thalaivar(Rajini) & Kalaipuli Dhanu. Both of them decided to work together after the success of Yaar under the direction of Sakthi-Kannan but the duo parted So Rajini moved to other project
One fine day he called Dhanu that while he was in Bombay he saw Kaalia(Amitabh Bachan movie) and said it would suit VK better than him and before their movie(Rajini & Thanu) Thanu could work. Rajini & VK though had a strain relationship in the beginning became friends in later years and is still so(Smoking Pic of VK & Rajini is a proof)
So this movie was made.
So usual VK’s friends were roped in like Radha Ravi, SS Chandran.
SS Chandran was signed by Dhanu on a condition that he must not show DMK symbol in his movie which he obliged but SS Cleverly showed it deliberately in a scene.
After the movie was completed Thalaivar saw the movie in preview theatre before director , Producer and Vk saw the movie and congratulated VK, Thanu & director for giving a blockbuster.

TRIVA:


It was the first movie for Roopini with VK. This was a hit pair with 90% success rate (Cooliekaran, Pulan VIsarnai, Captain Prabakaran) only miss was (Moondru Ezhtuil en moochu irukkum)
Radharavi getup was much talked about it was a dignified sophisticated villan .
It was a remake of hindi film Kaalia(Amitabh bachan)
Director Rajasekar who did Thambiki entha ooru, Padikathavan, Vikram, Gangwa(hindi) worked with VK for first time.

VK as innocent coolie, jail bird, smuggler has 3 different facets in this movie he does it with ease his steps in Vaichakkuri thappadhu song is must watch and in a scene where he wags his tail to mock Jai is a superb scene
Radharavi as usual , a villan but plays it differently again he was in prime form those days
SS Chandran a sidekick to Villan wears loose pants provides comic relief
Roopini does a nice job
Others does their job perfectly



Analysis :
It’s a typical commercial mass masala movie 80’s type revenge . In this kind of commercial movies we must not see logic or in other words screenplay must be good which his nice in this case thereby ignoring loopholes

A good entertainment movie can watch for sure with family

PLOT:
Dharma (Anandaraj) is an auto driver who kidnaps young women for a powerful politician R.R (Radha Ravi). Together they indulge in illegal activities . Sarathkumar meets them & conveys his intention of constructing a hospital.
The Government gets dissolved Vaishnavi files a writ petition to find his husband who has been missing for past 2 years. The court orders to produce him within 6 weeks. DGP (Nambiyar) urges to handover this case to Honest Raj who is under suspension because "Honest" Raj (Vijayakanth), a DCP investigating the murder of an MLA, zeroes in on R.R but is suspended by his higher-ups due to political pressure.
He rejoins the service and given charge of the investigation into the disappearance of a man whose sister had earlier disappeared. As expected Dharma threatens Vaishnavi to withdraw the complaint. VK first enquires Sivaguru(Peelisivam), inspector in which station Vasanth’s sister Lalithakumari disappeared.
His investigation leads him to Dharma and Vk suspects some foul play and breaks the wall only to find skeletons
INTERVAL

He plans to nab R.R which DGP refuses so he keeps surveillance on RR, as expected RR and his wife is killed and Dharma is in coma the case goes nowhere
At that time a staff nurse reveals about rape attempt on Lalithakumari and reveals that it might be due to Lalithakumari’s postmortem report of a women’s death caused due to Kidney failure in a private hospital in Bombay.
VK goes to Bombay to solve the case . Roopini, a doctor helps him and zero’s on Sarath(Owner as culprit). Meantime VK’s daughter is kidnapped and brought to Bombay
VK is blackmailed . Vk’s daughter gets killed
Is Vaishnavi’s husband alive? Is Sarath nabbed? What happened to Anandraj?

BEHIND THE SCENES:

The scene after interval i.e. in which huge cranes were used to evacuate bodies were shot at night and Vk’s foot was injured I.e. a nail pierced in his foot. Also it was considered as a grandeur as cranes were not used those days. VK shouted at A. S. Ibrahim Rowther as RK Selvamani did not shoot many scenes with Captain and his call sheet was wasted. Next day A. S. Ibrahim Rowther asked RK Selvamani to shoot VK’s scenes which RK Selvamani did but was uncomfortable.
Vk asked the reason and RK Selvamani said it. VK put him at ease & said the was bit tensed as the crane cost was huge and they reconciled(In mariyathai audio launch)

Plot:
VK is a lorry owner cum driver . Anandraj is a local goon affliated to a political party. Clashes arises between the two. In between he loves RTO’s daughter . Rajan P Dev, a minster with whom Anandraj is affliated becomes the reason for Janakaraj’s RTO’s death.
VK decides to contest in election against Anandraj meanwhile a Lady reporter shoots a conversation between Rajan P Dev and foreigners.
Anandraj & Minister in fear of losing elections plot a conspiracy. Anandraj dies
VK lands in jail and is tortured to disclose about whereabouts of tape

PLOT

VK is imprisoned and TV reporters are interviewing jail inmates. Senthil describes about Vk’s story
VK (ChinnaDurai) & his father are farmers though middle class are well respected in village. Radharavi & SS chandran cheats farmers which is opposed by VK. Radhika loves VK
VK ( ChinnaDurai) & his father has a mission i.e. to win in rekala race for consecutive 5 years to get back his property which Nambiyar has lost in race(First & last time) and VK wins 4 times & still one more time to go.
Radha, Malasiya Vasudevan, CID Sakuntala (sister of Radharavi) comes to the village from abroad. As usual VK & Radha indulges in quarrel . Pandari Bai(Mother of Radharavi) conveys to his son in law(Malasiya Vasudevan) that his son is a crook and is planning to loot all his wealth and they plan to stop wedding of Radha & Radharavi.
Meanwhile in Silambu fight Malasiya Vasudevan cleverly tricks Radharavi & VK into a duel(Silambu fight) by provoking Nambiyar. VK Does not know this , their bet is Radha ( winner will marry Radha)
As usual hero wins. Radharavi cleverly makes Nambiyar agree to transfer his property to Radha’s name.
VK & Radhika decides to run from this place as Nambiyar do not approve for their marriage as he has promised . Radharavi kills Nambiyar and it falls on VK who is imprisoned.
Radharavi & SS chandran takes possession of property of MN Nambiyar.

The scene shifts to present where another VK(Siva) meets his friends who interviewed jail inmates. Siva chances to see that and meets his own brother . (Twins separated in Childhood). His brother promises to bail his elder brother
VK(Siva) & Senthil decides to trap Radha and Radha starts loving VK . VK makes her pregnant.
VK(Siva) comes to the village to meet the parents of Radha. Radharavi asks VK(Siva) to transfer ½ of his property to Radha which VK (Siva ) cleverly foils & asks him to transfer the property to his name. He stays in bunglow in village .

Meanwhile ChinnaDurai’s bail application is moved and he is granted bail. Siva makes people believe that he is Chinnadurai and takes Radhika with her and makes her meet Chinnadurai. The pairs decide to work together. (ChinnaDurai & Radhika), (Siva & Radha)

Radharavi kidnaps ChinnaDurai before Rekala race to spoil his winning chances. Siva impersonates as ChinnaDurai and participates in the race. In between ChinnaDurai joins & wins the race thereby getting possession of property and to solve murder plan as MN nambiyar’s thumb impression .
The culprit is SS Chandran & Radharavi but how it is proved?

BEHIND THE SCENES :

Vk ‘s career had a minor downfall so Ibrahim decided to produce a flick with VK in dual roles in a village role as VK was much sought actor in B & C after Thalaivar (Rajini) . During the production , VK was badly hurt in another movie( Kaalayum Neeye and Maalayum Neeye) shooting causing . He was injured when a dummy bullet misfired and hit Car’s mirror causing injury Vk’s eyes.
As soon as Vk got hurt his face started to bloat , Ibrahim cried and took him to hospital doctors advised him full rest and not to see light for 3 months ,So Ibrahim kept him in Madurai and lied to others that he is in Banglore .
Uzhavan Magan was halted abruptly as finance was stopped as hero got hurt. His detractors cooked stories that his eyesight was gone. SO after 3 months press people were invited to see the shootings & next day all papers carried info about this movie and the movie was completed.
Actress Radhika extended her full co operation it is evident that she was conferred a thanks in title card.

Rekla race was much talked about those days it was most authentic rekala race with no cinematic liberations .
Rekhla race was much appreciated by industry doyens like Sivaji Sir, MGR(Janaki said this to VK when he went to Ramavaram thottam)
The movie was a lavish production considering Vk’s market those days
It was Vk’s 75th movie
It was released with high expectations and emerged as a quite successful movie consolidating VK’s position.

Analysis:

It is a typical MGR formula film twins separation, brothers interchanging and finding evidence for murder but it is presented in a different way that makes us to forget these trival things . The movie begins in a normal mode and gains momentum when another VK is introduced but the love scenes between VK & Radha though good is slow for this movie the movie gains momentum when VK hatches plans and races towards end making it a nice movie particularly when unraveling the mystery deserves mention.

Performance:

VK dons a dual role for second time in his carrier. He plays the role of villager with ease which he is quite comfortable whereas his role as city bred is full of style and substance.
Radhika dons the role of village belle . Her role has much scope in 2nd half particularly when she confuses villans who poisons Radha
Radha fills glamour quotient for the movie she too plays her part well in scene where Radharavi tries to give poison to her and arguing with her mother
Radha Ravi is the villan like a Jackal which changes according to situation Radharavi sir is superb
MN Nambiyar is majestic
Malasiya Vasudevan for a change plays a role of +ve person in this movie
Pandari Bai as usual plays a dignified role
SS Chandran as a sidekick to villan is comical and evokes laughter.

FINAL WORD:

The movie is a perfect commercial movie with suspense can definitely watch at least for Rekala race
MUST WATCH YOU WON’T REGRET

The problem with Captain movies is the success are not known to many people particularly current generations . Its true captain also did crap movies but many of his movies were good now a days very hard to get captain movies in shops (COMPANY DVDs are very few)

Uzhavan Magan :
1st Half + intro song + interval block => Good
- 2nd half (too many disguise for VK) - Blue eyes - quite confusing and dragging.
Over all watchable movie for its unique camera work, stunts and to some extent bgm
They should have stuck with the murder mystery or a thriller plot (the movie goes in that direction) until the 2 VK join hands and ....
It could have been another Senthora Poove or Ummai Vizhigal (and also could have been 1st in its kind - Village Murder Mystery) ... but falls flat.

But I class it under cult status just for showing the village episode quite classy (something different for that period)

By the way you can get the VCD for Rs40 to Rs75. Try at Raj Video Vision or any other Online site. (Just vérified it thru google). I have it on VHS (Eknath I think). Its still good, but at parts white lines run from bottom to top.

PLOT:

It is about a remote village Suriyakudi ,Madurai. The reputation of the village is that only thieves reside there. and this small village is ridiculed by everyone as the villagers eke out their livelihood looting neighboring villages. But the couple Manorama and Vinu Chakravarthy want this stigma to stop. When the grandson of the village bigwig is born, the villagers hope that he will be Suriyakudi's savior and name him Ayyanar. (VK) .They aspire that their grandson would one day grow up to reform the villagers and bring a fresh leash of life to everyone.
Their grandson (Vijayakanth) grows up as a straightforward boy and even helps police
As a young boy, Ayyanar gets his cousin Sivanandi thrown in prison after Sivanandi kills his own father for money. At the time of his father's death, Ayyanar promises to him that he will reform the entire village and rid it of its tarnished image.
Vijayakanth who succeeds in his mission to reform the next generation in the village and thereby wins the admiration and respect of one and all in the village.
Sampath's sister Susan falls in love with Vijayakanth, much against his brother's wish. She manages to get wedlocked with Vijayakanth.
Meanwhile, Vijayakanth's cousin (played by a debutant Sampath), who returns from jail after serving two decades of imprisonment vows to avenge Vijayakanth.

Sampath with the help of an anti-social, Manor Ali Khan tries to bump off Vijayakanth. The rest of the story is all about Sampath's attempt in trying to outwit Vijayakanth and Vijayakanth’s counter attack. And we all know what the end is.

PERFORMANCE:

Vijayakanth looks more presentable and slim, majestic in the shirt-dhoti outfit, that suits his girth better. Performance-wise, its the same Vijayakanth uttering punchlines and knocking off bad guys with ease.
Susan looks mature and so seems a good match for Vijayakanth.
Sampath makes a good villain and is quite aggressive.
Manorama and Vinu Chakravarthy fit the role of an old couple.
Others are just same.

ANALYSIS:

It is nice to see Vijaykanth not mouth lengthy dialogues(after Gajendra)
Even a formulaic Vijayakanth movie, if made well, can be entertaining but here it falls short
Mahima for a while appears to be creating a love triangle but then disappears as abruptly as she appeared. Sampath proves to be all talk and no action. His plans for coming face to face with Vijayakanth, like wasting the townfolk's grain, are elaborate but silly and once he selects Mansur to wed Susan, the movie becomes completely predictable. Karthik Raja’s music was good reminding Ilayaraja

PLOT:

A Police official nabs a person from smuggling gang . The boss of the gang (Saranraj) shoots both the police official and his own men . It is photographed by a photographer.
The photographer then plans to sell it to the killer. Saranraj offers him the price but the photo negatives are missing as a dancer steals his purse in which negatives were kept
VK is assigned the job of solving the case by Radharavi (Asst. Commisioner). The scene shifts to Goa where Gautami is introduced and right hand of Saranraj is nabbed both by Gautami & VK. Gautami is also a police official.While travelling with accused VK & Gautami lose the culprit but manages to capture another person who is also a part of the gang.
The scene shifts to Chennai where Sita meets Gautami. Both are childhood pals and Sita is the wife of VK.
VK is a happy family man with a wife, cute girl child , his sister. As the case is to be solved Gautami is to stay in Chennai. Sita compels him to stay his in his house which is not liked both by VK & Gautami but Gautami stays there.
Meanwhile Saranraj shoots also other person when he is to be produced in the court.
VK buys a big teddy bear for his child which has a zip that is quite big to hold certain articles.
VK manages to get the purse and negatives which is the crux of the case and develops the negatives and gives it to his senior official Radharavi.
Meanwhile Baby Shamili keeps the negatives unknowingly in her Teddy bear and empty purse is in the cupboard.
Sita reveals that she has cancer to her dear friend and Gautami assures that she will look after his family and they both decide to got to America for treatment.
VK also comes to know about her wife’s disease and decides to go with her wife to America
Saranraj plants a bomb in the car and Sita dies when they were about to leave to airport..
VK is vexed and drinks all time inspite of Gautami’s pleadings
When DGP (Senthamarai) asks for explanation about case VK asks Radharavi to show the photos to him. Radharavi too does it but the face of culprit is doctored When VK decides to show original negatives , he comes to know that they were missing.
Saranraj kills both Vk’s sister and her fiancée (Suresh) and VK lands in jail
How Vk Solves the case is the climax?

PERFORMANCE:

Vijayakanth looks slimmer, dashing etc. He is good in comical interludes also particularly in dinning table scene . His acting with Shamili in introducing Teddy to her is also superb
Sita is a perfect match for VK elegant dressing
Gautami though does a tom boy role garners attention towards the end.
Saranraj is the villan utters his punch line “ Enn Route eh vera” looks meanacing
Suresh, as a lover boy is very comical and provides comic relief compared to SS Chandaran
Baby Shamili is outstanding and cute
Radharavi is as usual nice though his role has a twist
Music “ Kasturi Mann Kuttiyan” is superb

ANALYSIS:

The movie begins with a lot of promise and as a family entertainer. The villan though speaks same punch dialogue it seems to be clichéd. Vk is married with Sita 2 years ago but they have a 1 ½ years child which speaks strange. Also the scene in which VK escapes from jail is height of stupidity.
TRIVA:

It was released in Diwali along with VK’s another movie Dharmam Vellum
In both movies he was a police officer

i've seen many youngsters / young hubbers posting here.. like.. their father is a hardcore sivaji / mgr fan.. thru him they have seen many of those stars films in theater..
so, here is my experience.. during my childhood, i remember watching one film along with my father (in theater) & my mom was there too.. just remember only one scene.. till today i don't know which film is that.. & even the theater name..
with my mom.. i've seen 2 films, i remember so.. 1 is "chinna thambi".. at that time film crossed 150 days.. we went along with few other ladies near our house.. those were the days when we don't have any satellite channels.. the other film is "Gokulathil seethai".. we along with periyamma's chiththis & cousins.. also i remember watching "Chinna marumagaL" in theater.. i'm not sure whether my mom came with us..

my father has zero interest in cinema.. it doesn't mean he is unaware of Ajith, vijay, surya etc. he knows & can identify few actors.. once he said, he liked MR Radha's acting & whenever i watch Gounder comedy he watches it & likes his nakkal's.. & also he watches the films me or my sister watches.. he goes out in between & unlike us, he is not so keen on knowing what happens next in the film.. he is a hardcore fan of Kalaignar Karunanithi..
same way, my mom is also not keen to know what would happen next.. if she misses some films in tv..

this preface is necessary for few of my posts that would follow
my liking to cinema is not thru my parents.. its thru my friends & others.. so, the films i watch in theater is decided mostly by others.. so, i would not have watched few of Vijayakanth's films in theater but i would have watched something else which was shown in a nearby theater..

- i remember the posters of old vijayakanth.. inspired from Thangapadhakkam & young vijayakanth..
- like i said in my previous post.. i saw a different film at that time..
- most of the films i saw in my childhood is with a neighbor anna..
- this film was released in KG-Dhaanam theater.. KG has 4 theaters [Raagam - dhaanam - pallavi - anupallavi].. in the order of seating capacity..
- other films released were... from my rememberence

- we were there to watch Gentleman.. it was houseful.. my wish is to watch Rajadurai.. :p .. from there, we went to another 3 in 1 theater.. Karpagam complex.. Ganga - Yamuna - Kaveri.. here.. Gentleman - Aranmanai KiLi (crossed 250 days, i think) - vaLLi..
- here too.. Gentleman tickets are sold out... finally ended with watching Aranmanai kiLi...
- now, i own a copy of Rajadurai in my collection

- instead of Bharathan, i saw Singaravelan.. after this when i said to my friends.. all are of my age.. small boys.. they scolded me why i haven't seen Bharathan :lol:
- at that time.. i liked vadivelu (didn't know his name then) from SV more than Annan.. ariyadha vayasu :lol2:
- those time, Napolean is a fresh villain on screen.. happy to see him in a VK's film that too in a positive character..
- later, have seen Bharathan when i was very young in "cable" tv..
- i don't have a copy.. looking for one..
- few months back.. saw a scene from a rajkumar junior's kannada film.. i guess it is Bharathan's remake..

“Vishwa”

IT IS not often that one sees heavyweights pitched together in a Kannada film. Even less common are long-drawn, action films. But with such a combination, one expected something fresh from "Vishwa”, although it is a re-make of the Hindi film, “Ghayal”. Hence credit should be given only to the departments of music and acting, which are above average. But “Vishwa” is otherwise a damper, where director Shivamani is on a seemingly unending trip of vengeance and violence.

Although Shivarajkumar, Ananth Nag and Suhasini are in the lead, the film itself seems to offer little scope for their talent to be unravelled. Coming close on the heels of “AK 47”, “Vishwa”, with all its action taken on by Shivarajkumar, is a treat for his fans, and that's about it.
Right from the inaugural scene of a battered and bruised Shivarajkumar in a prison, through to the end, it is a series of similar scenes of police brutality, fights and chases, amid the scoundrels in society masquerading as respectable and rich citizens that one finds in “Vishwa”. There is little respite from these frenzied goings-on despite the couple of well-tuned songs of Hamsalekha.

At the hub of all the violence is Vishwa, the protagonist who is an aspiring boxing champion, surrounded by a small, loving family of his brother and sister-in-law (Ananth Nag and Suhasini). His ladylove is a crusading journalist. Vishwa’s brother, Vijay, a businessman, is caught in a vortex of debts to a rich industrialist, Mahatma Guttedar (Satyaprakash), who promises to bail him out if he does his bidding of supplying drugs. The brother refuses, and pays with his life. With this, Vishwa begins his mission of avenging his brother's death, but not before he has exhausted other lawful avenues of seeking justice.

What sets Vishwa up is the turncoat his lawyer-uncle proves to be in court, by alleging an illicit relationship between Vishwa and his sister-in-law. Unable to -bear the shame of such an aspersion, his sister- in-law commits suicide. Vishwa is pronounced guilty, but escapes from jail to wreak vengeance on his uncle and Guttedar.

What one really finds in Vishwa is the prowess of Shivarajkumar as an action hero. There is an obvious improvement in his dialogue delivery too, which aids his emoting in a few effective scenes. Suhasini is also more natural, having bid adieu to her mannerisms, at least in this film. But a major disappointment is Ananth Nag, who looks exhausted and is unable to infuse the life he does into any role he plays. Satyaprakash is adequate. Tamil actor Thyagaraj downplays his role as a CBI officer, and is lost in the medley of fights, which seems to be the sole focus of “Vishwa” — an expensive but illspent venture.

- one incident i remember is, when i was a school student, i was watching this film at home after 9 pm.. cable tv.. everyone was sleeping except my dad.. he was busy in his office paper work.. in the mid of watching.. tv stopped functioning.. heard some burst noise.. those days repairing a tv is costly & also not easy... ours is a peculiar tv.. Beltek brand.. somehow we found a mechanic who can work on it & successfully repair it...

- film released in 1992 pongal.. i've seen 1991 diwali films in theater.. thalapathy & bramma.. i think i saw bramma after pongal, in Gobichettipalayam.. during this time my elder cousin saw chinna gounder & when we discussed about this, he said.. CG was very good & i missed seeing it.. within months i saw this in rented video in a neighbor's house
- my elder cousin is one of the reason for me becoming a vijayakanth fan.. but now his facebook profile shows he like's Rajinikanth :p

A scientist discovers a blood clotting medicine and is on his way to Moscow to submit his theory . The plane which he travels is hijacked by three terrorists who escapes from prison and they wish to go to Karachi.
The pilot Arunpandiyan & Napolean lands it in Kashmir. Mansoor Alikhan is the terrorist there and he keeps the passengers as hostage. The three prisoners reveal that they .....

Just bought an original legal copy of Captain's THAAYAGAM at ritchie street, after getting inspired by this movies review above by brother Ragul Ramesh.
As far as I know, this is the FIRST plane hijack movie in Tamizh(correct me if I am wrong).
VCD cost Rs.49/- Reliance Big Video.

One more point to note here.. The shop where i bought is a small one selling legal movies copies. They had a good collection of Captain movies. So my point is, IF THEY HAVE A SUCH A GOOD COLLECTION OF CAPTAIN MOVIES, THEN THINK ABOUT THE MARKET FOR CAPTAIN's MOVIES... [thumbs-up]. The shop is owned by a north indian 'saitji' so the possibility of him being a Captain fan is ruled out!

PLOT:









The film opens with a flashback showing the family feud between families of S Prabakaran (Vijayakanth) and Bhavani (Indraja). Sathyaprathapan and Bhavani are in love. The murder of Bhavani's father, is wrongly accused on SP's father. He starts to help Bhavani's family and mortgages his own house to finance her factory with the intention of making it up to them as he still believes that it's his father who killed Bhavani's father. But Bhavani is now trying to take revenge for her father's murder. SP's mother is now on her deathbed. While in the hospital, his mom tells how his father had a anotherwife and he should ask them forgiveness. He storms into Bhavani's house and accuses her uncle (who really killed Bhavni's dad), also trying to make her understand the truth but she doesn't believe him. ThenSP says he doesn't love her any more and vows that he will never trust a woman by remaining a bachelor forever.

Then scene shifts to the present time, SP is now a successful businessman and is having a legal battle between SP and Bhavani. Bhavani becomes furious when SP wins the legal battle to get back his house. She threatens to destroy SP.. SP has a stepsister, Parvati (Swarnamalya), who is his father's daughter from the other wife. He now lives for her. But she doesn't know that SP is her brother, although she stays next door to him. Mayilu (Vadivelu) is SP's aide and he too is a bachelor. Gowri (Namitha) comes to stay in the hostel and tries to win the heart of SP. But SP considers her a nuisance.
SP agrees to take care of Kannan (Prabhu Deva). He is the son of Manivannan, his uncle who had helped SP to become a successful businessman. Prabhu Deva is a flirt and womanizer so his mother wants SP to take care of him and change his behaviours for the better. But what SP and his mother doesn't know is that Kannan has only agreed to stay in the house when he comes to know that Parvathi lives next door to SP and in order too woo her.
Gowri comes to know SP is sponsoring Parvathi's studies and confronts him.
During the birthday party, Bhavani comes and takes Gowri away. Then it becomes clear that Gowri is Bhavani's sister. Rivalry arises between Gowri and Bhavani. Parvathi starts showing affection towards Kannan but says it's wrong and walks away. At this time, Bhavani's brother and his gang come to kidnap her.
While rescuing Parvathi from Bhavani's brother, Kannan decides to bring Gowri back too. Then Gowri's family members come to take her forcefully, but is stopped by Kannan. When told off by SP for doing so, he tells Mayil that he will sponsor the girl that loves SP like how SP sponsors the girl that he loves.
That is where SP knows that both of them love each other. He tells Kannan to promise that he will never look at another girl in his life and she (being Parvathi) should be the only one, which Kannan agrees to whole-heartedly. He fixes the marriage of Kannan and Parvathi. He transfers everything he has to Parvathi's name because Kannan's family thought Parvathi was an orphan. SP tells everything to Kannan's parents which is overheard by Parvathi who runs home crying. But Parvathi tells that her mother loved him and told her to ask forgiveness if she sees him. Now Parvathi and SP re-unite as siblings. During the marriage festivities, Bhavani and her brother come to prevent the celebrations.
Along with them comes the elder brother of Parvathy, Veerapandi. He challenges SP, saying that he has more right over Parvathi as he is her brother, while SP is just a stepbrother. Veerapandi then claims all of SP's property, which SP is willing to give, provided Parvathi lives happily and marries Kannan. Bhavani's household members uses Veerapandi to take advantage of SP; first by trying to snatch his company then trying to snatch his home.
Parvathi, torn between two brothers, comes running when the brothers fight among themselves on the account of who Parvathi will marry. She says she wants to be happy with both her brothers so to stop fighting. Parvathi has been emotionally forced to marry Bhavani's brother. She is rescued by Prabhu Deva, Mayilu and Cheenu. SP goes and pours kerosine on Bhavani to get her husband to tell the truth and he finally admits that it was him and his dad. He says how his father has done it for the money but he done it because he loved her and she was his life. Bhavani realizes her mistakes and goes to SP's house to apologize. But she tells SP that only thing she can now offer is the marriage proposal of her sister Gowri to SP. SP initially refuses when Kannan tells that he'll also remain bachelor if SP doesn't marry. SP finally agrees and tells everyone to go inside with Gowri.

Analysis:

The movie begins in usual VK’s style like a village family feud ect but changes track after 20 minutes when Vk steps in and begins a family comedy drama . Though chances for sentiment are too much the director has downplayed it and had many comic situations which avoid the sentiment scenes too much thereby making it a pleasure to watch
PERFORMACE:

VK is super cool, suave as business man he is complete director’s actor in the movie and fits in the shoe’s of Mammotty. Sad that he is not doing movies now
Vadivelu as sidekick to VK is sharing screen space through out the movie the comic scenes between MS Baskar, Pandiyarajan , Vadivelu brings the roof down in laughter. The scene where he tries to verhear Prabu deva’s plan and report to VK are hilarious
Namitha ‘s introduction movie she has a good scope as she is instrumental in joining the family
Swarnamalya ‘s acting is ok but she cries for most of the time but dances well
Prabu Deva as a flirt in this movie is second hero and does a fair job he is super cool and excels in comedy
Special Mention for Pandiayarajan & MS BAskar for giving a lively performance
Indraja ‘s role reminds Neelambari in Padayappa
Lal impresses in 2nd role tha first one

FINAL WORD:
Clean family entertainer perfect for a week end

[Movie plot]
* The movie starts with 3 prisoners escaping with the support of a pakistan based terror head. they next plan a plane hijack.
* Meanwhile the director introduces a scientist,his daughter Ranjitha and a fisherman who is a childhood friend of the scientist. The scientist discovers a blood clotting medicine and takes a flight to moscow to make a presentation of his discovery.
* The prisoners while trying to hijack this plane, make an unexpected landing into a kashmir mountain that is dominated by a local terrorist group headed by Mansoor ali khan a.k.a Snow bear. Napolean is the flight pilot and Arun pandian is a boxer who travels in the flight.
* In the subsequent scenes, the director introduces Captain vijayakanth back in TN as the fisherman's son. The fisherman persuades Captain to go with Ranjitha and rescue his friend(the scientist). Captain sets off to kashmir with ranjitha. Meanwhile, snow bear comes to know about the blood clotting medicine and plans to get hold of the scientist. But no one other than Napolean knows who the scientist is. Did snow bear single out the scientist? Did Captain succeed in rescuing the scientist? Did the plane passengers manage to escape from snow bear? watch out the movie for answers to these questions.

[Movie Review]
* Before watching this movie one should remember that this movie released during a period when computers were not a household name and merely uttering the word 'computer' in a movie would make it sound 'big budget'.
* The plot is very thrilling and interesting, but unfortunately the screenplay disappoints us. The scenes are not well linked and there are abrupt beginnings and endings of a scene.
* The passengers who travel in the plane behave and are even dressed to look as if they are traveling in an AC sleeper bus to Ooty.
* The deep friendship between the scientist and the fisherman could have been told more strongly so as to substantiate the latter's decision to send his son to rescue the scientist.
* The only consolation in this movie is our Captain. He perfectly suits the role as a fisherman. Even while in his quest to rescue the scientist, no where does he make us perceive him as a police/commando but as an illiterate fisherman, who uses his practical fishing knowledge, sense of surrounding and basic logical reasoning to reach snow bear's camp and rescue the scientist.
* As said before, excellent story but weak screenplay. Nevertheless, this is one kind of movie that should make up to your collections of Captain movies.

PLOT
The movie in a hospital where Doctor Chandrasekar who is treating a patient who is also a accused escapes. The patient is to be operated within 30 days as his life is at risk
The scene shifts to a village where 2 young couples escapes (Ramki & Nirosha) and settle in a train but in an attempt to save VK comes out and gets caught.
Yes Vk is the patient who is also the accused comes to the village. VK stays with Ramki, Senthil, Charlie etc . Ramki & senthi narrates the love story of Ramki & Nirosha

Ramki comes to the village as agricultural officer and Nirosha , a student . After initial scenes they both fall in love but Nirosha’s step mother Vijayanirmala is jealous and always tortures her. Nirosha’s father is a mute spectator to all this. Nirosha’s only solace is his step brother& Ramki .
Vijayanirmala even makes Nirosha to kneel down day & night & throws her books in fire . But Nirosha manages to save the rose that Ramki has given her as a symbol of love .Various attempts to escape from clutches of step mother proves futile.

The movie then focuses on VK and his story is unraveled.
VK loves Sripriya and they meet during a Temple function . Anandraj kills a family & no one gives witness but Sripriya & Vk gives witness and Anandraj lands in jail.
VK & Sripriya marry and years pass . VK joins military. Sripriya lives with his son, a mechanic cum family friend (Ponni’s brother)
VK comes to his house happily but Anandraj escapes from prision and kills Vk’s son ,wife and their family friend and hits VK in his head(reason for his disease).Ponni’s brother mentions about his sister , mother and asks VK to help her sister
Hence VK comes to this village without minding his ailment.
When Ramki comes to know this , he scolds VK and says that he was the reason for lovers being not united (if he was not there in first scene , they would have married now) as he felt VK would go for treatment.
Vk, Doctor vows to bring Nirosha out of the clutches of her stepmother .
Charlie, Sivaraman, others help Ramki in bringing out Nirosha out of her house( Brilliant stunt execution)
Vk meets Vijayanirmala and says that her son is dead (Superb scene underplay by captain) but the henchman set by Vijayanirmala are on the trail of the lovers
The lovers decide to elope in a train, helped by lineman( Senthil). Ramki, Nirosha , Doctor board the last part after compartment of the train but VK is missing .
Vk comes from nowhere after fighting and jumps from overbridge. The train compartments are dismantled, VK solves all that & unites the lovers giving his own life

Fresh after the success of Oomai Vizhigal , the same Film students helmed by Abavannan approached AS Ibrahim with this script as usual Vk was so busy but allotted dates , its like a extended cameo .

PERFORMANCE:

VK is the main strength in this movie , his excellent under portrayal as diseased person, fights in climax are a treat to watch
Ramki is like a bull always raging, lovable performance
Nirosha delivers a good performance in author backed role
The show stopper is Vijayanirmala , a very good villan actress making us teriffied
TRIVA:

Ramki shared screen space with VK for first & last time
The movie was directed by film students
Music by Manoj Gyan. Songs were super duper hit
Cinematographer, Director were film students
J Panner & AR Ramesh worked as Assistant directors , later made a movie with VK (Moondru Ezhutil EN Moochu Irukum & Ulavuthurai)
The movie was a lavish production considering Vk’s market those days
Fights were a revelation in this movie superbly executed
Climax fight was much talked about those days even now.
When this movie was made as a spoof in Lollu Sabha the lead actors mentioned that highlight of Climax and said lets end the episode now as its impossible to spoof the climax
3 train fights are highlights in Tamil Cinema 1. Murattu Kaalai 2. Captain Prabakaran 3. Senthoora Poove
All lead characters used to address Vk in this movie as CAPTAIN.

Still i remember the day of the E A release.. its sri brindha.. mostly i watched captain movies in this theatre only (Ticket epadiyanalum vangiduven , namma area pasangaloda) even Abirami is very near to me... First its released on pogi but we watched in pongal day with my family... ellarukum pidichidhu.. i feared abt co releases like virumandi/ p p saravanan (- at that time his film released big) but ennoda expect thandi indha padam city layum sakkka... virumandi - opened big and went down after 2 weeks, p p saravanan oda mass 2 days da.. then kovil also a good but average run..

E A released @ Woodlands symphony, Kamala, Motcham, Crown, Sri Brinda & Rogini.. i never expected this movie run ... it ran very well in city too. Ramana ran 100 days in 4 screens only - Sangam, woodlands, avm &rogini.. but this film had a run of 100+ in some 6 screens they were: Kamala, Woodlands symphony, Crown, Rogini, Motcham complex, even at Tiruvanmiyur Jayanthi & kanchipuram Shanthi... :thumbsup:

when vadivelu entered into the industry captain completed 100 films.. (2/3 of his career total)
lets be logical when we give some credit to anyone..

though i'm a big fan of Gounder.. i don't agree that Gounder played a big part in Captain's career.. if I think for a minute.. except Vaidhegi kathirunthal, Gounder did not play a major role in any of captain's super hits in his first 100 films..
let me ask fellow hubbers to think about this..

PLOT:

The movie begins with a Village simpleton Vellaichaamy (Vijayakanth) who lives with his 3 brothers and grandmother. Vellaichamy ‘s world revolves around his three brothers,
He loves a girl(Vinitha) but gives up marriage when he learns that the woman he loves plans to send them to a hostel after the wedding.
Devan( Vintha’s brother) challenges his love and affection will not be reciprocated by his brothers when they settle in their life . VK does not care for this statement
He works hard to raise them and they too reciprocate his love and affection.
Years goes on now the brothers have grown up

The eldest of the three, Muthu (Vijayakanth again), is a cook in a small hotel, owned by Senthil with Co worker Ramesh Kanna.
The second brother( Livingston) is undergoing police training, the 3rd brother( Prabu deva) is a medical student.
When Vellachamy learns that Muthu is in love with his childhood playmate (Meena) he goes to the city to his friend (Rajiv) with the marriage proposal. Only to be insulted!
Vellachamy was instrumental in shaping Rajiv’s career (He provided monetary help)
Circumstances bring Muthu to the girl's palatial bungalow where he works as a cook. The girl is arrogant and rude till she realises that Muthu is her childhood pal. And now it is she who does all the wooing and persuades her father to get her married to Muthu
She happily blends with their joint family .Shanmugam(Livingston), is married to Vellaichamy’s friend's daughter (Anju Aravind). Initially she too is rude and insulting to Vellachamy but due to her astrological reasons made her to speak like that, she too turns out to be a good lady.
Encouraged by family members Muthu starts pickle business nad becomes an entrepreneur. Anandraj is his competitor in the business but he turns into his friend when need arises
Circumstances force Livingston to arrest his brother but that is averted
The third brother (Prabhudeva) is a doctor. The brother has a girl friend (Kausalya) a talkative and vivacious girl.. She however turns out to be the daughter of Vellachamy's enemy (Devan).. Devan exploits the situation taking a promise from Vellachamy that he would leave the village once the marriage was over, gives his consent. Kausalya is kidnapped but Muthu saves her.
Vellachamy returns and unites with his family.

ANALYSIS:

The movie begins with a lot of promise and as a family entertainer ends as a breeze. The main strength lies that we all have seen brothers united in beginning, breakup in middle(Interval), joining in end but here Brothers remain united all through makes us feel tough there are chances of their separation are shown.
The scenes that standout are First stitching clothes very loosely, Medical college scene, sacrifice for Prabudeva’s marriage. Most of the characters are positive roles even Anandraj’s role is a surprise

திரைப்படக் கல்லூரி படிப்பு, உதவி இயக்குனர் அனுபவம் என்று இரண்டு தகுதிகள் எனக்கு இருந்தும், கதை கேட்க யாரும் முன்வரவில்லை. தோற்றுப்போன மனதுடனும், தொங்கிப்போன முகத்துடனும் மீண்டும் மணிவண்ணன் சாரிடம் போனேன். அவர் ஏளனம் செய்யாமல், என்னை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டார்.

ஆனாலும் வாய்ப்பு தேடும் முயற்சியிலும் தொடர்ந்து ஈடுபட்டேன்.


இந்த நேரத்தில் `விஜயகாந்திடம் கதை சொல்லலாம்' என்று நண்பர்கள் சொன்னார்கள். அவர்கள் பத்திரிகையாளர் சிங்காரவேல், கேமரா உதவியாளர் சங்கர் இந்த இருவருக்கும் என் மேல் பிரியம் உண்டு. உதவி இயக்குனர்களை உலகமே மதிக்காது. ஆனால் அவர்கள் என்னைப் பார்க்கிற போதெல்லாம் "செல்வமணி, மணிவண்ணன் சாரின் அசிஸ்டெண்ட். நல்ல திறமைசாலி'' என்று மற்றவர்களிடம் அறிமுகம் செய்வார்கள். பல இடங்களில் இந்த அறிமுகம் மூலம் அங்கீகாரம் தேடிக்கொடுத்தார்கள். அவர்கள்தான் என்னை விஜயகாந்த்திடம் கதை சொல்லக் கூப்பிட்டார்கள்.

விஜயகாந்த் சாரிடம் எனக்கு சிறு அறிமுகம் உண்டு. மணிவண்ணன் டைரக்ட் செய்த "உள்ளத்தில் நல்ல உள்ளம்'' படத்தில் நடித்திருக்கிறார். அப்போது நான் வேலை பார்த்திருக்கிறேன்.

விஜயகாந்த் சார் கதை கேட்பாரா என்று சந்தேகம். பெரிய நம்பிக்கை இல்லாமல்தான் அவரைப் போய்ப் பார்த்தேன்.

அவர் சொன்னார்: "நான் சொல்வதைவிட இப்ராஹிம் (ராவுத்தர்)தான் சொல்ல வேண்டும். அவரிடம் போய் கதை சொல்லுங்கள். நான் ஒன்றும் நானாக செய்வதில்லை. எல்லா முடிவும் அவர்தான் எடுக்கிறார். அவர் `எழுந்திரு' என்றால் எழுந்து நிற்பேன். `உட்கார்' என்றால் உட்காருவேன். அவரை போய்ப் பாருங்கள்'' என்றார்.

எனக்கு ராவுத்தர் என்றாலே பயம். அவர் போலீஸ் அதிகாரி போல இருப்பார். சிரித்துப் பேசமாட்டார். இருந்தாலும் நண்பர் சிங்காரவேல் என்னை ராவுத்தரிடம் அழைத்துச் சென்றார். கதை சொல்லலாமா என்று ஆரம்பித்ததுமே, "இன்னும் இரண்டு வருஷத்துக்கு அண்ணனுக்கு (விஜயகாந்த்) டேட்ஸ் இல்லை. பிறகு வாருங்கள்'' என்றார்.

ஏமாற்றத்துடன் திரும்பினோம்.

ஆறு மாதம் கழித்து, மீண்டும் அவரை சந்தித்தேன். அப்போதும், "இன்னும் இரண்டு வருஷத்துக்கு டேட்ஸ் இல்லை'' என்று சொன்னார். அவரை வேறு வழியில் சந்திப்பது என்று தீர்மானித்தேன்.

சினிமாவுக்கு கதை சொல்லும் முறை பிடிக்காத ஆர்.கே.செல்வமணி, முழுக்கதையையும் படக்கதையாக வரைந்து, இப்ராகிம் ராவுத்தரிடம் கொடுத்தார். அதைப் பார்த்து அசந்து போன ராவுத்தர், "புலன் விசாரணை''யை படமாக்க முன்வந்தார்.

இதுபற்றி செல்வமணி கூறியதாவது:-

"கதை சொல்லி சினிமா வாய்ப்பு பெறுவது என்பது, எனக்கு சரிப்பட்டு வராது என்று தோன்றியது. கதை சொல்வது வேறு, காட்சிப்படுத்துவது வேறு அல்லவா?

எனக்கு ஆர்.எஸ்.புவன், ஜிந்தா, ஜோதி என்று நண்பர்கள். இப்படி வாய்ப்பு தேடிய காலங்களில் நான் தி.நகர் ரங்கநாதன் தெருவில் ரூம் வாடகைக்கு எடுத்து தங்கியிருந்தேன். நாங்கள் எல்லாரும் ஒன்றாக இருப்போம். அதில் ஜோதி என்பவர்

"டி.எப்.ஏ.'' படித்தவர். அதிகம் பேசமாட்டார். அசத்தலாகப் படம் வரைவார்.

கதை சொன்ன ஓவியங்கள்

எனக்கொரு யோசனை தோன்றியது. சினிமாவுக்கான கதையை வாயால் சொல்வதை விட, படங்கள் வரைந்து அதன் மூலம் கதையைச் சொன்னால் என்ன என்று நினைத்தேன்.

வெளிநாட்டுப் பத்திரிகைகளில் வெளியான பல படங்களை எல்லாம் கொடுத்து, அந்தப் பின்னணியில் விஜயகாந்தை கதாநாயகனாக்கி, ஒரு படக்கதையை ஜோதியிடம் சொன்னேன்! அவர் 250 படங்கள் வரைந்து, முழு படக்கதையை உருவாக்கினார்! அவற்றை போட்டோ எடுத்து, ஒரு ஆல்பமாகத் தயாரித்தோம்.

அதுதான் "புலன் விசாரணை'' கதை. ஆட்டோ சங்கர் வாழ்க்கையை பின்னணியாக வைத்து தயாரித்த கதை.

"ஆல்பத்தை பாருங்கள்''

மீண்டும் ராவுத்தரை சந்தித்தபோது, "இன்னும் இரண்டு வருஷத்துக்கு....'' என்று ஆரம்பித்தார். எனக்கு சிரிப்பு வந்தது. யார் கதை சொல்ல வந்தாலும், இப்படியே அவர் கூறி வந்திருக்கிறார் என்று புரிந்தது.

"நான் கதை சொல்ல வரவில்லை. பத்து நிமிடம் மட்டும் கொடுங்கள். இந்த ஆல்பத்தைப் பார்த்து விட்டுச் சொல்லுங்கள்'' என்றேன்.

ராவுத்தர் அப்போது என்னை மேலும் கீழும் பார்த்தார். மவுனமாக ஆல்பத்தை வாங்கினார். புரட்ட ஆரம்பித்தார். முகத்தில் மகிழ்ச்சி. பக்கங்களைப் புரட்ட புரட்ட முகத்தில் பிரகாசம் அதிகரித்தது. ஒவ்வொரு பக்கத்தை அவர் பார்க்கும் போதும், அதற்கான காட்சி விளக்கத்தை அருகிலிருந்து சொல்லிக் கொண்டே வந்தேன். காலை 9 மணிக்கு ஆரம்பித்தவர் 11 மணி வரை பார்த்தார். அவ்வளவுக்கு அதில் மூழ்கியிருந்தார். ஆச்சரியப்பட்டார். ஆனால் எந்தக் கருத்தும் சொல்லவில்லை.

"திரைப்படக் கல்லூரியில் நாங்கள் எடுத்துள்ள `ததிங்கிணத்தோம்' என்கிற குறும் படத்தையும் பாருங்கள்'' என்றேன். "பார்க்கிறேன். இன்று மாலையே ஏற்பாடு செய்யுங்கள்'' என்றார்.

அவசரம் அவசரமாக ஏற்பாடு செய்தோம். மூவி பாரடைஸ் திரையரங்கில் படம் போட்டோம். வந்தார். பார்த்து விட்டு எதுவும் பேசாமல் போய் விட்டார்.

அன்று மாலையே பெட்டியைத் திருப்பித் தர வேண்டும். படம் போட்டதற்கு திரையரங்கு வாடகை ரூ.200 தர வேண்டும். `ராவுத்தர் ஒன்றும் சொல்லிக் கொள்ளாமல் போய் விட்டாரே. அவரை நம்பித்தானே படம் போட்டோம். காசு கொடுக்கவில்லையே' என்று கலக்கம் வயிற்றில் புளியைக் கரைத்தது.

சற்று நேரத்தில் அவரது மானேஜர் வந்தார். தியேட்டர் வாடகையை கொடுத்தார். ராவுத்தர் வரச் சொன்னதாகக் கூறினார். அவருடைய அலுவலகத்துக்கு போனோம். குளித்து விட்டு தயாராக இருந்தார்.

40 நாட்கள்

"இந்தப் படத்தை நாற்பது நாளில் எடுக்க வேண்டும். முடியுமா?'' என்றார். நிச்சயம் நாற்பது நாளில் எடுக்க முடியாது என்றாலும் அப்போது அவரது சம்மதம்தான் முக்கியம் என்பதால், "முடியும்'' என்றேன். "சரி. நாம் படம் பண்ணுவோம்'' என்றார்.

திரைக்கதை உருவானது. "பட்ஜெட்'' பெரிதானது. நிறைய எதிர்பார்ப்புகளுடன் இருந்தார் ராவுத்தர். நான் தயார் செய்து கொடுத்திருந்த ஆல்பம் அவரை மிகவும் கவர்ந்ததன் காரணம், அதில் விஜயகாந்த் சாரை ஹாலிவுட் கதாநாயகனைப் போல சித்தரித்துப் பல தோற்றங்களில் படங்கள் போட்டு மிரட்டியிருந்தேன். "டெத் விஷ்'' ஆங்கிலப் படத்தில் வரும் சார்லஸ் பிரான்சன் மாதிரி செதுக்கி இருந்தேன். அந்த நேரத்தில் தன் நண்பரை (விஜயகாந்த்) பெரிய அளவில் கதாநாயகனாக உயர்த்த வேண்டும், ஜெயிக்க வைக்க வேண்டும் என்கிற வேகம் ராவுத்தருக்கு இருந்தது. அதற்கு ஏற்றபடி, என் ஆல்பம் இருந்தது.

ஆனாலும், படப்பிடிப்பு உடனடியாக தொடங்கவில்லை. நாட்கள் ஓடின. உற்சாகமாகச் சம்மதம் சொன்ன ராவுத்தர், படம் பற்றி பேச்சே எடுக்கவில்லை.

அப்போது நான் வடபழனியில் தங்கியிருந்தேன். அவர் பாண்டி பஜாரில் இருந்தார். அவர் காலை 5.30-க்கு எழுந்திருப்பார். நான் அதற்குள் வடபழனியிலிருந்து போய் அங்கு தயாராக நிற்பேன். வாசலில் நின்று, பேப்பர் எடுத்து தருவது போன்ற உதவிகள் செய்வேன்.

அதிர்ச்சி

சில நாட்களில் என்னை வாட்ச்மேன் உள்ளே விடவில்லை. சில நேரங்களில் அவர் உள்ளே இருக்கும் போதே `ராவுத்தர் ஊரில் இல்லை' என்பார்கள். அதன்பிறகு நான் அங்கு நுழைய முடியவில்லை. ஏதோ குழப்பம் நடக்கிறது என்பது மட்டும் புரிகிறது. ஆனால் என்ன என்பது மட்டும் புரியவில்லை. ராவுத்தருக்குப் படம் செய்கிறோம் என்று `ராஜபாட்டையில் போய்க் கொண்டிருந்தேன். இப்போது உள்ளே விட மாட்டேன்கிறார்கள். மதிப்பு மரியாதை குறைந்துவிட்டது. புரியவில்லை. வருத்தமாக இருந்தது.

ஆரம்பத்திலேயே `இல்லை' என்று சொல்லியிருந்தால், எந்த வருத்தமும் இருந்திருக்காது. "படம் எடுக்க எல்லா ஏற்பாடுகளும் தொடங்கிய பிறகு, இப்படி முட்டுக்கட்டை ஏற்பட்டதால், வாழ்க்கையே பறிபோன மாதிரி எனக்கு விரக்தி ஏற்பட்டது.

முடிவு தெரியாமல் இரண்டு மாதங்கள் ஓடிவிட்டன. என் கனவுக் கோட்டை மெல்ல சரிய ஆரம்பித்தது. `இந்தப்படம் அவ்வளவுதான்' என்று நினைத்தேன்.

பிறகு ஒரு செய்தி கேள்விப்பட்டேன். நான் புதியவன் எப்படிச் செய்வேனோ என்கிற பயத்தில், அரவிந்தராஜை இயக்குனராக வைத்துப் படம் எடுக்கப் போவதாக எனக்குத் தகவல் கிடைத்தது.

நான் அதிர்ச்சி அடைந்தேன்.

விஜயகாந்த் நடித்த `புலன் விசாரணை' மாபெரும் வெற்றி

தடைக்கற்களை படிக்கற்களாக்கி, டைரக்டர் ஆனார், ஆர்.கே.செல்வமணி. அவர் டைரக்ட் செய்த முதல் படமே (விஜயகாந்த் நடித்த "புலன் விசாரணை'') மகத்தான வெற்றி பெற்றது.

"புலன் விசாரணை'' கதையைப் பாராட்டி படம் எடுக்க முடிவு செய்த ராவுத்தர், `செல்வமணி நன்றாக டைரக்ட் செய்வாரா' என்று சந்தேகப்பட்டதால், வேறு டைரக்டரைப் போட்டு படத்தை எடுக்கத் திட்டமிட்டார். ஆனால், டைரக்ஷன் வாய்ப்பு மீண்டும் செல்வமணிக்கே திரும்பி வந்தது.


அது எப்படி என்பதை செல்வமணியே கூறுகிறார்:

மனம் மாறிய ராவுத்தர்

சில நாட்கள் சென்றன. ராவுத்தர், மஞ்சள் காமாலை நோயினால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டார்.

அவரிடம் அம்மா கிரியேஷன்ஸ் சிவா, "நீங்கள் பலருக்கு உதவியிருக்கிறீர்கள். அந்தப் பையனுக்கு (செல்வமணிக்கு) நீங்கள் கொடுத்த வாக்குறுதிப்படி நடக்காததால், உங்களுக்கு உடல் நலம் பாதிக்கப்பட்டு விட்டது'' என்று கூறியிருக்கிறார். இந்தப் பேச்சு, சென்ட்டிமெண்டில் நம்பிக்கையுள்ள ராவுத்தரை உருக்கி விட்டது.

என்னை கூப்பிட்டு அனுப்பினார். போனேன்.

"படத்தை ஆரம்பிக்கலாம்'' என்றார்.

1988 அக்டோபர் 28-ல் "புலன் விசாரணை'' படத்துக்கு பூஜை போட்டோம்.

"படத்தை நாற்பது நாளில் முடிக்க வேண்டும். அதுவும் நாற்பது இரவுகளில் முடிக்க வேண்டும்'' என்றார், ராவுத்தர். எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் ஆமாம் போட்டேன்.

100 நாட்கள்

படப்பிடிப்பு

"புலன் விசாரணை'' படப்பிடிப்பு 40 நாட்கள் நடந்தும், படம் முடியவில்லை. காரணம், பல விஷயங்கள் சேர்த்து சேர்த்து, படம் பிரமாண்டமாகி விட்டது. நாட்களும், செலவுகளும் அதிகமாயின. நூறு நாட்கள் வரை படப்பிடிப்பு நீண்டது.

நான் 1987-ல் படிப்பு முடிந்து 88ல் இயக்குநர் ஆகிவிட்டேன். இந்தக் காலத்தில் அப்பா சென்னைக்கு மாற்றல் வாங்கிக் கொண்டு வந்து விட்டார்.

எனக்கு எப்போதும் நான் நினைப்பதை செய்ய வேண்டும் என்கிற பிடிவாதம் இருக்கும். ஒரு வேலையைச் சரியாகச் செய்ய வேண்டும் என்றால், அதில் விட்டுக் கொடுக்கமாட்டேன். சமாதானமும் ஆகமாட்டேன். இதுதான் என் குணம். இதனால் பல பிரச்சினைகளைச் சந்திக்க நேர்ந்தது.

"புலன் விசாரணை'' பாடல் காட்சி படப்பிடிப்பை ஏவி.எம்.ஸ்டூடியோவில் ஆரம்பித்தோம். அப்போது நாங்கள்தான் முதலில் 5 ஜெனரேட்டர்கள் வைத்து படப்பிடிப்பு நடத்தினோம். அப்போது எல்லாரும் ஒரு ஜெனரேட்டர்தான் பயன்படுத்திக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

500 துணை நடிகர் - நடிகைகள் பங்கு கொண்ட நடனக்காட்சியை பிரமாண்டமாக எடுக்க எண்ணினேன். டான்ஸ் மாஸ்டர் புலிïர் சரோஜாவிடம், `இந்தக் காட்சியை ஒத்திகை பார்க்க வேண்டும்' என்று கூறினேன்.

`செட்டில் ரிகர்சல் நடத்த முடியாது' என்று அவர் சொன்னார்.

"கண்டிப்பாக ரிகர்சல் வேண்டும்'' என்று நான் கூறினேன்.

"நான் ஆயிரம் படங்களுக்கு வேலை பார்த்திருக்கிறேன். என் அனுபவம் உனக்குத் தெரியாது. யாரும் இப்படி என்னை செய்யச் சொன்னதில்லை'' என்றார் சரோஜா கோபமாக.

நான் விடவில்லை.

"நீங்கள் ஆயிரம் படங்களில் வேலை பார்த்திருக்கலாம். உங்களுக்கு வேண்டுமானால் இது ஆயிரத்து ஒன்றாவது படமாக இருக்கலாம், ஆனால் எனக்கு இதுதான் முதல் படம். இது எனக்கு "வாய்ப்பு'' இல்லை; வாழ்க்கை'' என்றேன்.

கடைசியில் என் பிடிவாதம் வென்றது. ஒத்திகைக்குப்பின் படப்பிடிப்பு நடந்தது.

பென்ஸ் கார்

படப்பிடிப்புக்கு என்னன்ன தேவை என்பதை, முந்தின நாளே சொல்லி விடவேண்டும்.

ஒரு நாள், கவர்னர் காரில் வருகிற காட்சி படமாக இருந்தது. பென்ஸ் கார் மிக அவசியம் என்பதை உணர்த்த "பென்ஸ் கார் இல்லாவிட்டால் படப்பிடிப்பை கேன்சல் செய்ய வேண்டியதுதான்'' என்று கூறினேன்.

இதற்கு சிலர் கண், காது, மூக்கு வைத்து, விஜயகாந்த் சாரிடம் திரித்துக் கூறி விட்டார்கள். "நாளைக்கு பென்ஸ் கார் வரவில்லை என்றால், ஷூட்டிங்கை கேன்சல் செய்து விடுவாராம்'' என்று சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்கள்.

இதனால் கோபம் அடைந்த விஜயகாந்த், "அவன் என்ன நாளைக்கு கேன்சல் பண்றது? நான் இன்றைக்கே சொல்கிறேன். இந்த ஷெட்ïல் முழுவதும் கேன்சல்!'' என்று கூறி விட்டார்.

ராவுத்தர் என்னைக் கூப்பிட்டுத் திட்டினார். "நீ யாருய்யா ஷூட்டிங்கை நிறுத்த? நீ என்ன பாரதிராஜாவா, மணிரத்னமா? நேற்று வந்த பையன் நீ! ஷூட்டிங்கை நிறுத்துவியா.. இப்போ பார் எல்லாம் போச்சு'' என்று கோபமாகக் கூறினார்.

தவறாகச் சொல்வது, தவறாகப் புரிந்து கொள்வது, திரித்துச் சொல்வது என்பதெல்லாம் என்ன என்பதை அப்போது நான் நேரடி அனுபவமாகத் தெரிந்து கொண்டேன்.

இதனால் படப்பிடிப்பு நின்று போயிற்று. "இந்தப் பயல் வேண்டாம். வேறு ஆளைப் போடலாம்'' என்று சிலர் யோசனை கூறியிருக்கிறார்கள். இதனால், என் குருநாதர் மணிவண்ணனிடம் சென்று, அவரை டைரக்ட் செய்யும்படி கேட்டிருக்கிறார்கள். அவர் மறுத்து விட்டார்.

6 மாத இடைவெளி

பல சமாதானங்கள், சமரசங்களுக்குப்பின்-அதாவது 6 மாதம் கழித்து, மீண்டும் படப்பிடிப்பு தொடங்கியது.

`இவ்வளவு பிரமாண்டமான படத்தை இந்த சின்னப்பையன் சரியாக டைரக்ட் செய்வானா?' என்று, பலர் அடிக்கடி விஜயகாந்த் சாரிடம் சந்தேகத்தைக் கிளப்பிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். ஆனாலும், என்னிடம் நம்பிக்கை வைத்து அவர் முழு ஒத்துழைப்பு கொடுத்தார்.

அந்தக் காலக் கட்டத்தில், விஜயகாந்த் நடித்த ஐந்தாறு படங்கள் சரியாக ஓடவில்லை. அதனால், "புலன் விசாரணை'' ஒரு வெற்றிப்படமாக அமைய வேண்டும்'' என்று கருதினார். ஆகவே, நாங்கள் உயிரைக் கொடுத்து படப்பிடிப்பு நடத்திக் கொண்டிருந்தோம்.

ஆனால் ராவுத்தர் நம்பிக்கையில்லாமலேயே இருந்தார். "என்னவோ எடுத்துக்கிட்டிருக்காங்கப்பா'' என்றே சொல்லி வந்தார். இந்த அவநம்பிக்கை வளர்ந்து, கடைசி சில மாதங்கள் என்னுடன் பேசுவதையே தவிர்த்து வந்தார். படப்பிடிப்பு நாட்களும், செலவுகளும் நீண்டதால் ஏற்பட்ட கோபம்.

படம் பொங்கல் (14.1.1990) வெளியீடு என்று அறிவிக்கப்பட்டு விட்டது. அப்படியிருக்க ஜனவரி 9, 10 தேதிகளில் கூட படப்பிடிப்பு நடத்திக் கொண்டிருந்தால், அவருக்கு கோபம் வராதா!

எனக்கு என் உழைப்பின் மீது நம்பிக்கை. முடித்து விடலாம் என்று மும்முரமாக இருந்தேன். அவருக்கோ, `நேரமே இல்லை; எப்படி முடிப்பான்?' என்கிற எண்ணம்.

இரவு பகலாக படப்பிடிப்பு நடந்தது. விஜயகாந்த் சார் கூட, எப்போதோ வீட்டுக்குப் போய் சாப்பிட்டு விட்டு, உடனே வந்து

விடுவார்.ராவுத்தர் கண்டிப்பு

குறிப்பிட்டபடி படத்தை பொங்கலுக்கு வெளியிடத் தயார் செய்து கொடுத்து விட்டேன். ஆனால், முழுப்படத்தையும் ஒரு பார்வையாளனாக உட்கார்ந்து ஆற அமர நான் பார்க்கவே இல்லை.

ரிலீசுக்கு முதல் நாள் ராவுத்தர் கூறினார்: "தம்பி! இந்தப் படத்துக்காக ரொம்பக் கஷ்டப்பட்டோம். பெரிய ரிஸ்க் எடுத்திருக்கிறோம். இந்தப்படம் ஓடலைன்னா, விஜயகாந்த் நட்பு முறிஞ்சிடும். நாங்க பிரிஞ்சிடுவோம். படம் ஓடினால் மறுபடி இந்தப் பக்கம் வா. ஓடலைன்னா இந்த ஏரியா பக்கமே நீ வரக்கூடாது'' என்றார்.

நான் எதுவும் பேசாமல் திரும்பி வந்து விட்டேன். இந்த வார்த் தைகள் என் காதில் சதா ஒலித்துக் கொண்டே இருந்தன.

வெற்றி

பொங்கலன்று படம் ரிலீஸ் ஆயிற்று, எங்கள் குடும்பமே பரபரப்பாக இருந்தது. நான் காசி தியேட்டரில், காசு கொடுத்து டிக்கெட் எடுத்து படம் பார்த்தேன்.

படம் பார்க்கும்போது, ரசிகர்கள் செய்த மகிழ்ச்சி ஆரவாரத்தைக் கண்டு எனக்கு இன்ப அதிர்ச்சி. என் உணர்ச்சிகளை விவரிக்க வார்த்தைகளே இல்லை.

தமிழ்நாடு முழுவதும் படத்துக்குப் பெரிய வரவேற்பு என்றும், படம் வெள்ளி விழா கொண்டாடுவது உறுதி என்றும் எனக்குத் தகவல்கள்

கிடைத்தன.என் கண்களில் ஆனந்தக் கண்ணீர் வழிந்தது.

படம் தயாரானபோது எனக்கு ஏற்பட்டிருந்த காயங்களை, படத்துக்கு கிடைத்த வெற்றி ஆற்றி விட்டது.''
Director RK Selvamani, who gave the blockbuster 'Pulan Visaranai' in 1990 with Vijayakanth in the lead, is all praise for the actor’s dedication in his work. “There was an action sequence in the film for which Vijayakanth had to walk with a rope. Accidentally, the rope snapped and Vijayakanth had a mighty fall from about 30 feet, shocking the entire unit. Yet, he made no fuss and asked me to treat him as if nothing happened.

He also instructed me not to tell the stunt master about his pain as he might then not give him challenging stunt sequences,” explains the director, whose sequel to the film, 'Pulan Visaranai II' with Prashanth in the lead is yet to hit the screens.

He also recalls another incident to prove Vijayakanth’s resolve during shoot. “A nail pierced his thumb on a day when we had to do a rain shoot. But he did not want us to stop the shooting as five generators had been hired to create the actual rain effect. It was only after the shooting got over that he tended his thumb,” adds Selvamani, praising his hero. At a time when directors and actors are often at loggerheads with each other, this recounting comes as an invaluable anecdote of the bond between the duo.

Ramanna, finally in full.

- All those iconic dialogues, scenes still stands out despite the mimics, spoofs, and comedy sketches made out of it.
- Captain really put on lots of work on this one (performance, not much on stunts).
- One of the best vigilante films, definitely
- Yugi Sethu, another standout performance (though he might appear wooden sometimes)
- Background score adds class. Songs doesn't register though.
- Wife watched it and enjoyed it, but had to go to bed (put baby to sleep) an hour before the film finished. Worth revisiting.

PLOT
The story is about Vijay is a college student who comes back after finishing his studies. He has a very affectionate mother (Manorama) and an easy going father (Vijayakumar). He meets Meena (Yuvarani) and they constantly keep quarrelling. Their fighting gets to a point where one of Vijay's friends gets hurt by Meena.

Angered by this, other friends of Vijay try to molest Meena. Vijay interferes and saves Meena, triggering her love for him. Vijay eventually falls in love with Meena too.

This is informed to Ponnambalam (Ponnambalam) who is Meena's brother. He is a local Rowdy who has also committed many murders. He beats Vijay up and warns him not to see his sister again.
Meena however, comes to meet Vijay in his house. Vijay's mother reveals a sad story of what happened to Vijay's elder brother, Senthoora Pandi (Vijayakanth) . Sendhoora Pandi was a very nice man. He was in love with Marikozhundhu (Gowthami) . Marikozhunthu is kidnapped by her relative and is kept in house arrest. Sendhoora Pandi goes and in front of her relative, ties the wedding knot with Marikozhunthu. During their first night, the relative kills Marikozhunthu. Senthoora Pandi gets his revenge by killing the relative and goes to jail.

Now SenthooraPandi is released from Jail and wants Vijay to marry Meena. But Ponnambalam is hell bent on doing anything to stop the marriage. Ponnambalam takes Meena to a remote village to marry her off to another guy.
SenthooraPandi and Vijay go to the wedding hall and after some intense fight, they take Meena home. Senthoora Pandi starts making wedding arrangements for the young couple. Ponnambalam sneaks into their house and kills Vijay's father.

What happens next is the climax.

Vijay ‘s first movie Naalaya Theerpu did not give a expected launch pad to Vijay. So SAC thought it would be appropriate to cast a hero who would attract B & C centres and zeroed in for Captain.
Captain was in the peak of his carrier with a hit Enga Mudhalai in the year 1993.

PLOT
The story is Mytholigical in the lines of Thiruvilayadal. It starts with Marriage of Lord Siva with Parvathi their wedding etc. One fine day Lord Siva is on penance and does not react , this angers Parvathi and makes fun of Lord Siva.
Lord Siva curses Parvathi to be born in earth . How come Lord Siva & parvathi unite is the end

VK’s appearance, look as Lord siva in two avatars one inspired from fisherman episode in thiruvilayadal and his fight with Arjuna is highlight.

one of my co-workers was from VeLLippALayam from this area and a big lover of IR's music - even during early 80's he had such a big stereo system and all songs on recorded-cassettes with high-quality recording from the best stores in Coimbatore. (Even his hairstyle resembled the VK hairstyle in this song :lol:)
