Anyway it was a pleasant surprise for me to watch this movie whenever it was released (1984).
The main plot of the movie happens in a mansion that is originally located in Kutraalam (not in movie though).
We had stayed in that facility (with a big gang) for a weekend in the season just before the movie had released.
Got very excited for the very reason that I had been to a place where a movie was shot.

It is actually 8/9. From the top of my head: 1) Maappillai - Ennoda Raasi, enna dhaan, unaithaan, maanin iru 2)verri vizhaa - poongatru, thathom, maarugo, vaanam enna. Even seevi sinukkedutha was a hit 3) vvp - manamaalaiyum manjalum. Some others were instant hit but faded within months. 4) dharmam vellum - devi devi 5) anbu kattalai - ponmaane 6) thangamaana rasa - sokkupodi, then madhura 7) ppa - kalzaana maalai, keladi kanmani, eduthu naan, guruvaayurappa. Even maavaatta was a hit 8)paasa mazhai - oru paattu. 20 instant hits for one deepavali. I am not even counting other songs which are good but didn't catch on in the immediate days following the release. Plus the BGM. IR-ai pArthA kEkka vEndiya kELvi - nee manushanAyyA?

i relate the visuals with story i read / hear..

yesterday i searched for this dvd in a local store.. it was not available.. not much collections available there

will get this as early as possible..

instead i got this 3 in 1...

Fading strokes of a bygone era
A chanced glance at a hoarding while restlessly waiting for the signal to turn green, and you would have seen a pandemonium of colours in that split moment. Perched atop would have been tiny men with their larger than life brush strokes. For many, their art perhaps just added to the visual cacophony that were hoardings, but for the artists, it was art for art's sake. Chennai's now vacant skyline wore many a colour in the heydays, when these artists mounted mammoth grids to paint a Rajnikanth with green hair, or Vijayakant's eyes red with rage. Years later, when they had to let go of their canvasses, most watched in abandon.
Passions still run high for one such artist who has spent over 20 years in the industry and has seen mass-produced vinyl hoardings gradually take over hand-painted ones. Having painted for most Vijaykanth movies, including Vallarasu and Vaanathai Pola, M.P. Dakshina is among the handful who managed to retain a foothold in this waning industry despite diminishing returns. Now running his own studio, he has diversified into doing political cut-outs, acrylic paintings for foreign clients and an odd hand-painted poster.
“Even today when I see a painting on a wall, I pause to appreciate it. Vinyl posters can never create that effect,” he says. Dejected over how the industry crumbled, he says not just about anyone could paint movie hoardings. “I underwent five years of training in fine arts before starting out. One had to start off as an assistant before getting to handle entire hoardings. Like in any other profession, there are families that have been doing it for generations,” he says. Orders for political cut-outs, too, he says, have come down. “They come only when there are big political meetings.”
V. Jeevananthan of Cine Arts paints a very glum picture of the renewal of this art form which caught the imagination of film-goers of a bygone era. “I don't think it can be revived anymore. Moreover, one needs a lot of physical stamina to paint on such a large scale. For instance, you must be able to rotate your hand in the radius of five feet. Once you lose touch, it becomes very difficult,” he says.
His father N. Velayudham painted hoardings for movies of MGR and Sivaji Ganesan and he carried forward the tradition. Though based in Coimbatore, the studio's hoardings came up all over the state and were put up at theatres such as Sapphire in Chennai.
“When the banners came up at the theatre for the first time, at least 100 people would crowd around for a glimpse. There was so much enthusiasm. Do you see people crowding around flex banners today?” he says.
There is no trace of individuality in digitally printed posters, he says. “These days, there are ten machines on a single street that can print the exact same thing. I could paint 10 cinema hoardings of 20x10 (feet) in one day, and every banner would be an oil-painting. That was pure art.”
In a state where cinema is intertwined with politics, V. Geetha, one of the authors of the book, The ‘9 Emotions of Indian Cinema Hoardings', says it is this association that set apart Tamil cinema hoardings from the rest. “Hoarding space does not merely offer a spectacle that is alluring but also one that helps project the hero as a political leader. The artists were unsung heroes who helped make that happen, whose deft and bold strokes helped create faces and expressions that have since come to be associated with certain film genres, actors and comedians,” she says.
She adds that her collaboration with M.P. Dakshina for the book intended to pay a tribute to the art form and acknowledge the humble artists who mastered the art.
Talking of the transformation over the years, the author says, “Now, a decade later, several artists have lost work or been forced to turn to other occupations. They have lost touch with the world of glitz and glamour which helped sustain their interest in profession where the pay was hardly an incentive.”
Most of them now paint houses instead, while some others work as security guards or do odd jobs. M.P. Dakshina says of the glorious years, “The road was my gallery, and the pedestrians my audience. But now, it is all gone.”

Renowned dialogue writer, producer and director P Kalamani passed away on the 3rd of April, 2012 due to prolonged illness.

Kalamani is known for his dialogue works in director Bharathiraja's super-hit movies like 'Pathinaru Vayadhinilae', 'Mann Vasanai' and director mani Vannan's 'Mudhal Vasantham'.

Kalai Mani has spent over a period of three decades in Tamil film industry and had worked with stars like Vijayakanth, Stahyaraj. The dialogue writer had also produced over a dozen of films and directred a few. இணையத்தில் உள்ளவர்களுக்கு வேண்டுமானால் இது அதிலிருந்து எடுத்தது, இதிலிருந்து எடுத்தது என்று சொல்லி டேக்கன் படத்தை சொல்லலாம். ஆனால் விஜயகாந்த் படம் பார்க்க வருபவர்களுக்கு அதெல்லாம் முக்கியமில்லை என்பது அண்ணா தியேட்டரில் கூடியிருந்த ஆல்மோஸ்ட் ஹவுஸ்புல் கூட்டத்தை பார்த்தால் தெரிந்தது.

வழக்கமான விஜயகாந்த படமாகத்தான் ஆரம்பிக்கிறது. கூடுதலாக ரெண்டு லைனுக்கு ஒரு முறை பஞ்ச் டயலாக் பேசி, ஆளும் கட்சியை விமர்சித்து, டைட் க்ளோசப்பில் சிவந்த கண்களுடன் பேசுகிறார். அதையெல்லாம் மீறி வில்லன்கள் கூட சண்டை போடுவதற்கு முன் ஒரு அரை மணி நேரம் நிறுத்தி நிதானமாக விஜயகாந்த்தின் அரசியல் பார்வையை பற்றியும், அவரது கொள்கைகளை பற்றி அவரை பேச வைத்துவிட்டுத்தான் சாகிறார்கள் என்பது போன்ற ஒரு சில இடர்பாடுகளை தவிர, இண்ட்ரஸ்டாக பொழுது போக்க வைத்திருக்கிறார்கள்.

Re: Panakaran

Panakaran was released for 1990 pongal. At the same time Kamal's
Indiran Chandiran, Vijayakanth's Pulan Visaranai and Prabu's
Arangetra velai were released. Both Panakaran and Pulan Visarani did
well. Satya Movies produced this film and it annouced that it was
25th year for Sathya movies to produce this film. It was first
combination of dircetor P.Vasu and Rajini. Rajini is supposed to
sing the song "Nooru Varusham" as per Hindi Amitab film (Amitab
sang). However, Illayaraja informed that this song is complicated
and adviced that Rajini can sing another movie and that was Mannan.

There is one scene whereby Gouthami will come with her friends to the hotel
where Rajini work as a servant. There will be some problem between Rajini,
Gothami and her pet dog. That scene was not in the movie. May be they have taken
out may be it is same like Thanikaatu Raja film scenes??

Rajin's dance was well appreciated by everyone. I read in a magazine
that many teenage girls were impressed by Rajini dance. It ran 25
weeks in Chennai (Morning show) and the silver jubilee function was

If VLC doesnt work, open with Windows Movie Maker & rip it. Most videos that play in Windows Media Player work in Windows Movie Maker too. If that fails, please try this small app called 'Any Video Converter' to convert the format to AVI or MPEG-4. You should then be able to open it using VLC.

Jr. NTR Brindavanam is one of the much awaited Telugu movies. Evidently, no Telugu cinema could give Endhiran - Robo a run for the money. As such, Jr. NTR Brindavanam movie review and verdict is the most talked movie. With Komaram Puli, Mahesh Kaleja not living up to the expectations, let's discover what Brindavanam review has in store.

Story:

Srihari and Prakash Raj are step brothers (rivals) and Kota Srinivasa Rao is their father. Indu (Samantha) is Prakash Raj's nephew while Bhoomi (Kajal Agarwal) Srihari's nephew. Cutting back to the city, Krishna (Jr NTR) is a dynamic chap from a rich family and is in love with Indu. When Prakash Raj tried to arrange Bhoomi marriage with Ajay, she says that she's in love in another one. Bhoomi then approaches Indu and requests Krish act like his boyfriend and Indu convinces NTR to act like Bhoomi's boyfriend. And when NTR goes to the village to set things right, he discovers that Indu and Bhoomi come from same family. The movie encapsulates how Krish unites Srihari and Prakash Raj and with whom he enters wedlock.

Analysis:

Brindavanam is tipped to be a romantic family entertainer and Director Vamsi Paidipally attempts to showcase NTR as a class hero with mass instincts and hook the families. And we have to say he has just managed to pull things off - only just. Brindavanam is one such effort from Vamsi Paidipally trying to enhance NTR image amongst the class and families with melo drama and humor.

NTR Brindavanam comes with comedy, humor, sentiment and too much melodrama. NTR Jr. will be seen in an out and out family entertainer this time and if it's not for NTR, Brindavanam could have bitten the dust without any second thoughts.

NTR, DIL Raju were targeting family audiences may be for the first time. As such, Vamsi Paidipally dealt NTR characterization with utmost care whilst ensuring that his mass image is not being hampered. Perhaps not the best of scripts NTR has zeroed in, but Brindavanam crosses the rope though NTR depiction and performance.

Dil Raju clearly accentuates on NTR targeting family audiences. As such, you could glimpses of Bommarillu and Parugu. The first half of Brindavanam runs crisply with few super action sequences, the second suffers from loads of sentiment and family drama. And the climax is rather peculiar - may be something that NTR, DIL Raju and Vamsi Paidipally collectively agreed on.

Performances:

NTR steals the show and his performance is truly commendable. While Adhurs gave NTR a tinge of comedy disposition, Brindavanam fosters and strengths his roots amongst families as well. He did extremely well in action sequences, which were brilliant. But the steps for the dance were not as expected and his costumes are very poor.

Samantha is totally a misfit for the role of Indu. Looks like she's unable to take on mass or medium characters. But these are the roles she needs to don down the role. Kajal Agarwal is adequate.

Prakash Raj and Srihari were apt as step brothers and their body language suited the characters. Brahmanandam and Venu Madhav also did their part.

Technicalities:

Music by SS Thaman is pretty good, but re-recording is only good in parts. May be he could have done a better job. Camera work by Chota k Naidu is commendable and the locations were also appealing. The camerawork by Chota k Naidu was great during the action episodes. The CG and graphic works were reasonably good, but surely Marthand K Venkatesh, the editor might have had a tough time. Surely the second half needs more editing.

Final Word:

All said, Brindavanam movie is a conventional family script, customized with some peppy and romantic tracks making it an average film. While Brindavanam might not necessarily be on the same lines, the idea of exchanging boyfriends is purely dramatized and cinematic - perhaps practically not possible.

racy - pacy screenplay.. definitely not bad..
but its too late.. the damage has been done in the first half itself..

right from the thirumalai naicker mahal - special officers meeting, vallarasu dove scene, fight, radharavi scene... it was moving very well...
the -ves are captain speaking english, his jumps in fight sequences [hand-leg speed is good but not the jumps & rope throws], very poor graphics / amateurish technology scenes, love scenes, kadhal araaro dance..

nice to see captain's long time allakais in the film.. Thyagu, vadivelu, chandrasekar, sriman.. special :clap: for Radharavi's performance

& captain converted full time villains to his allakai's.. Raghuvaran, Nassar, Anandaraj, kasan khan... venu aravind is also there.. ivan engirudhu vandhan...

after captain kills all the terrorists.. one small boy wearing muslim skull cap comes in front of captain holding a gun.. he aims at him & shoots.. first bullet misses captain.. second one hits his right hand.. on seeing this Anandaraj tries to shoot the boy.. but captain asks him not to do it... he goes to the boy & takes back the gun.. & says "ini idhu thevai illai" :( [my aanandha kanneer]


captain comes out to the common place carrying the boy... now its the turn of Nassar.. "yar indha payyan"
