Dear friends,
In our school days in late fifties and early sixties, we used to visit the Children's Theatre (later known as Kalaivanar Arangam) and watch movies for 0.06 paise (0.12 paise for adults). The films screened would be of best standards and our memories are still green with two films - (i) The Amphibian Man and (ii) Operation Tiger.

Amphibian Man is Russian film and directed by Vladimir Chebotaryov, Gennadi Kazansky, starring Vladimir Korenev as Ichtyandr Salvator. I wanted the present generation to watch this movie of 1961 which is still fresh and to my goodness, I came across the link to watch it online. Here is the link:

Those of you seeing this for the first time would be surprised to see such a classic with many technical ingredients in early 60s.

Shall discuss foreign movies of this period in the course of time.

Pls share your views on this film.

One of my Cinephilia dreams is to watch this on big screen. Incidentally, along with LoA, My Fair Lady and yes, The Sound of Music, were shot in widescreen 2.35:1 70mm.

[tscii:461b13843f][/tscii:461b13843f]To continue on "The Sound of Music", In "Have you seen...?" by David Thomson, a better writer than critic, rips apart the film in a typically sarcastic fashion. It goes like this, "Yes, you’re right: I am a very sick, vicious old man, but writing 1,000 of these little recommendations can drive you crazy, especially when I come to a picture that I loathe but which — unquestionably — has to be in the book, if only because millions of the stupid and aggrieved will write in to the publisher, ‘Where was The Sound of Music?’ if it is not. It is here."

Thanks, it's (esp. Bengali, Hindi, Malayalam films) been a passionate affair for last few years especially. :)

salaam_chennai,
It certainly seems "voluminous" to outsiders. But trust me, it's overrated. :)
