Look at the way jana gana mana and fanaa are picturized in AE and also how that moron SJS has picturized 6.5 kodi, mayiliragae in ah aah. SJS just sucks. Actually his vaali, kushi had better picturization of songs than Ah aah and new. He just spoils ARR's hard work. hi guys whoever you are. I happened to browse this site and realised that some of you are a little confused with rafee'e work with Rahman.
Here is some news : Rafee and Rahman have known each other since 1988. While Rahman as Dilip was doing the Chennai scene so did Rafee's brother Bashir a killer keyboardist from singapore who had already played with Shankar Ganesh, Gangai Amaran as well as toured with Illayaraja on his world tour in the 80s. In fact it was Bashir who knew Rahman first. Rafee was already performing on Singapore TV scoring all the varieties and teleserials as well as the pioneer in the Indian Club scene together with his band Vasantham Boys,as well a sscoring for Malaysian dramas since 1979 till 1995 whenhe decided to pack up tand go to India.
On his several months each year in India he had always worked for Rahman as a singer and programmer.
Somewhere after 2000 he stationed permanently in India working exclusively for Rahman. Sometimes he was credited for his work, sometimes not. But that didn't matter. It was an honour to work for a great Talent as ARR. After a long time rafee appeared on Singapore TV as he was invited to judge the Vasantham Star. While in that show he had mentiioned briefly about his latest work for Rahman, of which Aa Aaah was mentioned. What Rafee clearly said was : It was an honour to work for ARR. ARR had invited an given him the opportunity to work more in his films at the same time allowing more input into the song. But.... All COMPOSITIONS are ARR's including background music etc... unless ARR wanted a different feel to a particular song. For instance in the song Varughirai ARR had wanted a particular feel and rhythm to the song as well as arrangement. As Rafee got to work on ARR's idea and composition, ARR was happy and pushed rafee further to achieve the best for the song. Where normally arrangers contribute to a certain percentage of a song , in this particular song RR wanted rafee to work a little more on it. The BGMs are definitely ARR's.Of course after rafee had programmed ARR will fine tune to deliver his personal touch.... well it is his song isn't it? Maram kothiyay was a remix of mayil iregae. ARR was in KL to launch rafee's Listen album on sept 2004. In that album rafee had done a remix of several songs which ARR liked. So he came up with a novel idea to remix his own song before the release. That is how Rafee got to arrange and program that song. Anyway all vocals and final mixes are done by ARR himself, no question about it. Those days Ilayaraja, composed the tunes, arranged the scores, that is all the music notations for the various instruments, but did not manually play, as this function were undertaken by musicians. These days as most composers are keyboardists and computer oriented, composing , arranging and programming are done by one person and if necessary due to excess work others are employed to arrange or program(play the keyboard). In simple cooking terms - The one who thinks of an original recipe in his mind ( normally the (Executive Chef) is the COMPOSER... The one who listens to the Idea and comes up with various spices, ingrediants to produce as well as enhance the First Idea, Normally the Chief cook- is The Arrager.... and the one who cuts the vegies and mixes the spices and ingredients in the pot is the - asst cook, The keyboard programmer. Rahman is all of these and so is Rafee. Only difference is Rahman has had the opportunity to carve his name worldwide now due to his Talent and Hard work, and rafee, coming from a small country like Singapore where Indian music is a small minority, takes great pleasure that he has been fortunate to work for the world famous ARR. Whether its an achievement for anyone else. it doesn't matter, but to Rafee . he has had the opportunity to work with one of the best Indian Film music composer and also a chence to sing the song Anbe with one of the finest Indian singers, Mr SP Bala(Kadal Desam). Once again Fans of ARR, rest assured that all compositions are Rahman's and he still does most of the work himself. No man would want to call another man's child his own! Keep supporting.
