If there is one talent that I really disliked the last ten years it has to be Simran.

So, the best she did was probably in Kannattil Muttamittal. Hmmm....No. I think it was in Valee. Some honest performance that SJS managed to extract...

Still her talent lies mostly between her neck and her waist. I should have wrote those in past tense.

Yes, Valee is her best. She was cute playing a silly and dumb girl who falls for sensational stories from Ajith!

And regarding 'looks' (inclusive of everything) - thats been the case ever since Revathy (although I don't rate her as high as others) stopped acting. But looks have always been the criteria. For example, Amala and Nadhiya were popular for their good looks more than just acting skills!

I think ARR is the only opponent in my case. Although I've immense respect for his talents. I've always listened to his songs. BUT His fans peeve me easily! Some of them easily get on my nerves and I've always had to give 'em some reality check.

Oh sorry, almost forgot - Mani Rathnam. The most hyped up personality in thamizh film industry! Of course, I watch films made by Mani sir, The best mainstream stuff I've liked from TFI over the years.

I was not talking about her face at all. Looks has always been the criteria even before Revathi. Back in the 40's, they would not have used M.S.Subbulakshmi if she looked like Frankenstein's Monster. But she had talent alongside that.

So, with looks should come talent. And un-dubbed voice.

But we are digressing. Sorry folks.

I agree. It's sometimes the fans who creates a kind of hostility towards the stars. Instead of making us like their favourite, they end up making us loath them. I don't want to name names, but I have been avoiding one talent for that reason alone.

But I got no issue with ARR or his fans. I find that the fans I know are nice, respectful of ARR's predecessors. Most importantly, I like what he had done to the Tamil film industry in the international arena.

So the ethiris of rajini should be those who want to be superstar which is ajith, vijay, vishal and co.

The same tamil 'kuppai' magazines have sang praises for ARR and neglected IR's inroads in WCM. But seriously, why do ARR fans keep posting links? As If we don't know all this. I believe its a far shot and utterly ridiculous to say, ARR and MR are 'the best'. Something the current pseudo-intellectual society seem to dwell on. This may not be acceptable to anyone with semblance of knowing music or movies. Of course, such 'opinions' are subjective. But its about time they realize there are people who have listened to most of their works and well informed about others as well. But that is not the thing that irks me, it' s this hunting for sites and links, citing publications in press to claim ARR's brilliance. And bringing down IR's music with ignorant statements like they are repetitive or monotonous. Of course, the hubber ARR fans are much better.

Thanks to hulkster for clearing two things:
1) they were songs Not Original Score.
2) they weren't nominated.

Such misquotations and exaggerations provide all the more reasons to feel irritated.

Of course, the hubber ARR fans are much better.

relax maadi thilak-avare  ..............i dunno who all claims mani and ARR as the best in TN and claim themselves as intellects??? .......infact, no ARR fan searches & gives these links to prove his greatness, its just that we feel happy when we see people from other cultures and other regions/countries see him just the way we see him :D ........being popular is not neccessarily being great - we know that...... :D ....

i dont think i need to go into who started bashing whom since 1992 and y this has bcome a major fight :lol2: .........anyways, ARR appreciating u1, IR appreciating ARR, ARR supporting IR in TIS issue - it cant get better...... :D

yea, infact songs getting selected from India is not a small thing - i believe and thats wat i meant........maybe i used the wrong word - "original score" ........

My opponent IR :lol2:

i'm not close minded to say , i like only 2-3 songs of raaja.........:lol2: ......there are some 30 songs which are close to my heart.......
but maalayil yaaro (sathriyan) stands out..........
pothi vechha malliga mottu(man vasanai),
paada vandhodhor raagam (paruva raagangal)
engirundho azhaikkum (en jeevan paduthu) are some songs which come to my mind instantly :D

Should i "know" music to enjoy or appreciate music ???
Should i "know" about movies to enjoy or appreciate movies ???

This is just an art....art of "entertaining" people. People being "entertained" need not "know" or possess theoretical knowledge about the art.

Be it IR or ARR or MR are all artists who entertain us. What the comman man needs is "entertainment" in a FAIR way.

So an artist is to be rated purely based on the "entertainment" quotient he provides by FAIR means.

Right from MS subbulakshmi's classical songs to Deva's kuthus offered a lot for the common man in terms of entertainment.

So the opinion (or "acceptance") of so called (or self proclaimed) INTELLECTS/PURISTS/PUNDITS like u counts very little when it comes to rating artists.

Coming back to your points:
I have no qualms about people who even say "Deva is the best". Of course, the guy/gal's taste is little weird to go as far as saying that. I'm only against people who cite quotations and hunt for links which proclaims ARR. Such hunting for artifacts straying over the net is the oldest trick in the book. This is what I meant when I said it's irritating. Moreover, the same people undermine much better works from other contemporary artists. Idhu yenaku Agaadu, adha daan sonnaen! This made ARR (fans) the opponent(s), although I have immense respect for his talent!

Heck, I thought we are allowed to appreciate our *opponents*. Which I did, Maddy sar came to counter my points. Which is fine, So I had to reply to him. And now someone sprout from nowhere and question my replies without knowing the context! :banghead:

My opponents favourite movies: :P

Shivaji Ganesan:

Mudhal Mariyadhai - A very subtle and without those "over the top" emoting/acting performance from SG. There are lot of scenes where SG nicely brings out his sense of humour without taking away the impact of hidden sorrow from his eyes! One of those movies where SG played his age with all dignity! Brilliant stuff!

Rajinikanth:

Avargal - A movie where RK played one of the most brutal villains in the history of Tamil cinema. He played the role of a saddist to perfection. It really takes some extraordinary performance out of any actor to outperform a genius of the calibre of KH in a movie that has equal footage for both! Even as KH played the role of one simpleton "Johnny" ( a ventroquilist) with his usual elegance - RK's stunning performance just didn't even make people realize some other good performances from the same movie!

That was an absolute "stunner" from RK!

P.S: There are lot of other favourite movies of both SG and RK but as an opponent that would be one too many to list! :)
