After contemplations aplenty the fate of Hindi remake of Ghajini has been decided. The movie was never in any trouble but there were lengthy discussions, and debates before the rough look of the team that would actualize the movie was finalized. As it has turned out, the discussions came full circle.

Aamir Khan

The initial talk was that A.R.Murugadoss, the director of the Tamil original would be directing the movie with the mercurial Aamir Khan in the lead and Asin making her debut in Bollywood. The things took their first turn when Aamir Khan was rumored to be in discussion with Mani Ratnam for Lajjo, a replacement for Aamir was required; now that is not something that is easy to find. Then came the news that Priyanka Chopra was all set to replace Asin. Finally came the biggest twist. Director A.R.Murugadoss was reported to be on his way out of the project due to his very limited understanding of Hindi. A prominent director from Bollywood was touted to be the replacement.

With names being thrown around, no one had any clue as to what the movie will look like. But as said earlier, things have come full circle. The discussions have ended where they had begun. After contemplating on all the possible names, the concerned people seem to have settled for A.R.Murugadoss as the director. With Aamir Khan’s dates being available there was no need to look anywhere else.

So that is how the movie will look like; A.R.Murugadoss calling the shots and Aamir enacting Sanjay Ramaswamy. Other details including the female lead have not yet been decided. Let’s hope that even this one bounces back to the point where it all began and we get to see Asin play Kalpana once again.

Shooting for the movie is all set to begin by the end of March. Of course, the music; that will be scored by none other than the wizard A.R.Rahman. Certainly something to watch out for. [/tscii:1a5d02b9ac]

[tscii:b4a23267df]Asin out, Ayesha in!
By Moviebuzz | Monday, 29 January , 2007, 10:34
First the bad news - The `numero uno` Tamil actress Asin will not be the heroine of Aamir Khan in the Hindi remake of Ghajini which will be directed by A.J.Murugadoss.

Ayesha Takia who had done that super hit Telugu film Super opposite Nagarjuna and the recent multi-starrer Salaam-E-Ishq is going to play the role of Kalpana made memorable by Asin.

Allu Arjun (Brother-in-law of Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi ) is producing the Hindi remake of Ghajini. Aamir Khan will do the lead role of the guy suffering from short term memory loss, out to avenge the death of his lover.

Murugadoss will be directing the Hindi version with A.R.Rahman’s music, camera by Ravi.K.Chandran and editing by Antony. The entire technical crew of the film is from Kollywood and hence it was decided that the cast should be from Bollywood! This was one of the reasons why Asin lost out to Ayesha.

In fact Aamir Khan who had seen the original was all in awe of Asin’s performance and had recommended her strongly for the project. A camera test was done in Chennai on her and another top actress from south, but both failed to reach the expectations required for a Hindi film heroine!

Immediately Ayesha Takia was flown in from Mumbai and after the camera test, she was selected to do the coveted role of a middle-class, small time model who becomes the sweetheart of a business tycoon. The buzz is that a part of the film will be shot in Chennai city.

Sources close to the production house comments: “Ayesha has a perfect blend of innocence and glamour and moreover her performance in the recent Nagesh Kukunoor directed Dor had come in for lot of appreciation.”

The shoot for the untitled film (likely to be titled Ghajini itself) will start from mid-April.

[tscii:fa8db5022b]"I am doing Ghajini Remake" – Prasoon Joshi
By IndiaFM News Bureau, February 27, 2007 - 06:26 IST
Chaand Sifarish Jo Karta Hamari
Deta vo Tumko Bata
Sharmo Haya Pe Parde Gira Ke
Karni Hai Humko Khata….

The above lyrics dripping with unbridled romance helped its writer Prasoon Joshi win his first Filmfare Award for best Lyrics at the recently concluded 52nd Filmfare Awards. He had also been nominated for the thought-provoking anthem from Rang De Basanti, Rubaroo. “Getting nominated along with Javed Sahab and Gulzar Sahab is an honour in itself,” Prasoon revealed to IndiaFM.

One of the top-notch Advertising Guru in the country, Joshi has won plethora of awards in the field of advertising all over the world. He is also widely known for the Thanda Matlab Coca Cola Campaign. His stint in lyrics writing started with pop band Silk Route, followed by surreal Shubha Mudgal’s private albums and he finally made a mark in films with Kunal Kohli’s Hum Tum.

You did two films last year (Rang De Basanti and Fanaa) and got nominated for both. What are you doing next? “I am doing Aamir’s Taare Zameen Par and the remake of Ghajini,” says Prasoon. “Shankar Ehsan Loy is giving music for Taare Zameen Par while A R Rahman is giving music for the Ghajini remake,” he adds. Have the songs been recorded for Ghajini Remake? “No, not as yet.” And finally, are you directing a film starring Aamir? “No….” Joshi signs off leaving behind a trail of fragrant words.

A.R.Rahman starts work on Ghajini
By Behindwoods News Bureau.

A.R.Rahman who is on a high after the praise worthy composition in Oscar finalist Water, has many exciting projects on hand. Ghajini is one such project starring Aamir Khan and Ayesha Takhia. Ghajini is the remake of Tamil movie of the same name directed by Murugadoss who is wielding the megaphone for the Hindi version too.

Tamil Ghajini had Harris Jeyaraj doing the music and one of the ingredients for the movie's success was its music and background score. Now everyone is waiting eagerly on how A.R.Rahman is going to surpass the benchmark set by Harris in Tamil Ghajini. It really has to be the best of best to beat the original track.

Aamir Rahman joining hands have also added to the expectations of the public. The duo was involved in many hits that include Lagaan, Rang De Basanti and Mangal Pandey.

It is learnt that A.R.Rahman has started work on Ghajini and discussions with director Murugadoss is on. Aamir Khan who is currently busy with shoots of "Taare Zameen Par" is expected to join the discussions on Ghajini soon.

Prasoon Joshi is penning the songs for Ghajini. Prasoon and Rahman had come together for Rang De Basanti that won the film fare awards for best music, best lyrics, best actor and best movie. So can the trio of A.R.Rahman, Aamir Khan and Prasoon strike gold again?

[tscii:c7983f6349]Kangana out of Aamir's Ghajini

By IndiaFM News Bureau, March 20, 2007 - 05:08 IST

Kangana Ranaut has been dropped out of Aamir’s next venture Ghajini to be directed by AR Murugadoss. The actress has been replaced by none other than Priyanka Chopra. After working with the likes of Shah Rukh and Salman, the actress will be now working with Aamir Khan.

Apparently Aamir wanted everyone to be tight lipped about the film and that’s exactly what Kangana failed to do. The sultry actress was so excited about the film that she just couldn’t stop talking about it and thus was shown the door and replaced by Priyanka

Priyanka has said to have opted out of a couple of mainstream projects just to be a part of this film. And hopefully she will keep her lips sealed about this project unless she wants to go the Kangana way.

Pradeep Singh Rawat - the man who coaxed Aamir Khan to remake Ghajini

Pradeep Singh Rawat, the actor who played the role of Sultan in Sarfarosh says he is the man behind Ghajini's remake as he had inspired Aamir Khan to see the Tamil film Ghajini.

"I had played the negative lead in the original film and when we were shooting the director had casually told me that he wanted to make this film in Hindi too. Once we all - the Lagaan team- were celebrating Diwali at Aamir bhai's house when I made this proposal of the movie to Aamir. At that point he asked me if I had seen it and when I told that I have acted in the film he readily agreed. So I made arrangements for him immediately by asking director to send the prints to Mumbai."

"As Aamir saw the film he had loads of praises for all characters. He called Surya - the lead actor in the original movie and praised him. He even thanked me for showing him the film," says the excited Rawat.

And although Pradeep hasn't received a call from Aamir to act in this remake, Bapat says he still shares a close friendship with Aamir after having worked with the superstar in two films - Lagaan and Sarfarosh. "Even though he is perfectionist he is a very wonderful person at heart. He is very selective in decision but he always gives an opportunity to other actors who according to him will suit the role."

Surya Claps Aamir Khan

By Behindwoods News Bureau.

May 12, 2007

News about Gajini remake in Hindi has reached dizzy heights. The Hindi version, also titled as same as in Tamil, is being produced by Geetha Arts on behalf of Allu Aravind. In addition to having written the story and screenplay, AR Murugadoss will direct the movie. The shooting started on 7th May, at Mumbai, with Surya calling the first shot with the movie clap board and Telugu mega star Chiranjeevi capturing the scene in the camera.

Aamir Khan and Asin will be dancing to the tunes of AR Rahman. Ravi K Chandran and Sameer Chandha are the cameraman and art director respectively.

Sources say that, unlike the Tamil Gajini, there will be a lot of changes in the second part to suit the tastes of Bollywood fans. At present, the filming of the flashback scenes are in progress.

Gajini is being made on par with Hollywood movies where technical aspects are concerned. It seems that the movie's sound recording is done live. As any external noise would mar the process, outsiders are not allowed within the areas surrounding the shooting location and it is cordoned off with hundreds of personnel wielding walkie-talkies.

Moreover, on Aamir's strict instructions, everyone associated with movie are tight-lipped. The press is not allowed anywhere near the shooting venue and interviews are forbidden.

After the first schedule of filming is completed, AR Murugadoss and Ravi K Chandran will fly over to Malaysia and Singapore to finalize the location for Aamir Khan's conglomerate in the movie. In addition to this, a few songs with Aamir and Asin will be picturized in Egypt.

About the title of this film, "Kajri"... How does a name like that fit into the story set in the Metro? Unless they are changing the characters and Asin plays a village belle..!!! (hope Murugadoss doesn't get brainwashed by the producers into making it 'more suitable for Hindi cinema'- an excuse given by remake kings like Boney Kapoor)

I really wonder, is the title really Kajri, or was it mistakenly reported by some 'biryani' journalist initially which has got stuck, whilse the actual title is something else?

Ghazni would still be OK in Hindi I suppose?

Coming to ARR as the MD, I am sure he will have a field time composing the score and we will have a winner here... (when was the last time he scored music for a thriller?) I must admit Harris Jayaraj's songs were pretty damn good in the Tamil original, though the BGM was quite bad (not so pathetic as his score for Vettayadu Vilayadu).

What about your other production, Jaane Tu Jaane Na?
I am producing this film written and directed by Abbas Tyrewala starring my nephew Imraan. He is also my cousin Mansoor's nephew. Mansoor has actually been the producer on the film since I was busy with Taare Zameen Par. I called him to supervise and help on this film. It's a lovely story. Genelia is the heroine. A R Rahman has done the music. The entire cast and crew has all young and enthusiastic people, and you can see that energy on screen.

You are doing another First by giving Royalities to A R Rahman for this film
Yes not only to A R Rahman but also to Shankar Ehsaan Loy. I've done it in the past. I have been giving royalties to Ashutosh Gowarikar for Lagaan. I believe that the person who writes or creates something is the original creator and deserves some percentage of the profits even as the time goes by.

Harris Jayraj's original music score is fabulous, what about the remake?
I loved the original music score. In the Hindi remake, the music is being composed by A R Rahman who again of course is a very talented person. But I have to say I loved the original music score very much including the background score. I thought it was very good. I really liked the film. So, when I saw the film I was really taken aback for the kind of film that is is. On the script level we have changed five to ten percent towards the end of the film. Other than that we are making the same film.

So, when I saw the film I was really taken aback for the kind of film that is is. On the script level we have changed five to ten percent towards the end of the film. Other than that we are making the same film.

I think Kajri is only a working title . They might have a new name later.

to all rahmaniacs!!..aamir about ghajini in his blog
http://www.lagaandvd.com/blog.php
Guess where I am as I write this? I'm sitting in A.R.'s studio in Chennai!!! We are here to work on the songs of Hindi remake of GHAJINI. Rehman is sitting to my right leaning against his piano, Prasoon Joshi, who is writing the lyrics, is to my left, and in front of me is Murgadoss, the director. Quite appropriate that I should be doing my post on GHAJINI today. Usually I wouldn't be here but Murgadoss wants me around as he is relying on me to guide him about the Urdu lyrics. So I'm here more as a translator. When I was offered GHAJINI I didn't take it very seriously as I'm not usually keen on remakes. But when I saw the film I really loved it. I did not like the last 30 mts of the film but despite that the film had worked for me. I was not sure that I shoiuld do it as I had a problem with the end of the film, also I was not sure that it was my kind of film. The person who persuaded me to go for it was Surya, the hero in the original. I had called him to congratulate him on his performance. While discussing the film I expressed my doubts, I felt that maybe I was not the right actor for the film. He just brushed aside my doubts and insisted that I was the right person for the Hindi remake. But what sealed it for me was my meeting with the director. He is a really spirited young director and I was very impressed meeting him. He has a really nice vibe around him and a very sharp instinct towards his work. Importantly, when I expressed my reservations regarding the end of the film he did not hesitate in seconding that he too was not very happy with that portion, and that in the remake thats the portion that he felt we needed to rework. Having made sure that we were on the same page and feeling a great amount of comfort in Murgadoss I went ahead with my decision. In this meeting I got to know how the story came about. Murgadoss had heard about a film called MOMENTO and the concept had really fasinated him. Without having seen the film he went ahead and wrote his own version of the script and screenplay. Having finished his script he then saw MOMENTO, found it very different from what he had written, and went ahead and made GHAJINI. I had not seen MOMENTO myself untill then and was very curious to see it. On seeing it I thanked my stars that he had not seen MOMENTO before having written his script. I preffered GHAJINI any day. Momento I just couldn't understand. For those of you who have asked me why I don't have any problems doing a remake of a Hollywood film..., its NOT a remake. Watch both films and see for yourself. In my opinion this is a GENUIN case of 'inspired from', and nothing beyond that. Murgadoss has written a completely different and original screenplay and he should get the due credit for his work. Its being produced by Allu Arvind, Directed by Murgadoss, Music A.R. Rahman, lyrics Prasoon Joshi, cinematography Ravi K Chandran, sound Rassul. The two female roles are being played by Asin and Jhia Khan. I thought Asin was stunning in the original so she was the natural choice for that role. For the other role a number of actresses were auditioned, the director found Jhia the best suited and so she has been finalised. I have not seen Jhia's earlier film but I did see her test and I agreed with the assesment of the director. We have begun shooting for the film and should complete the shoot by the end of the year. So I would guess it should be a 2008 May or June release. On the script level while we have stuck to the Tamil original for the most part we have made changes to the villian track, and have changed the last 30 odd mts of the film including the climax. I was telling Rahman about this blog and told him about the various posts you guys had made criticising his work.... relax just kidding, told him you'll love him, got a big grin out of him, he sends his regards. Couple of questions I have for those of you who have seen the Tamil version. What should we call the film in Hindi? Any ideas? And who is the right cast for the role of the villian? Those of you haven't seen the original please wait and see the Hindi version. Met someone I am a huge fan of on my flight here... Rajnigaru! He is so cool, I just love him. He is the guy who really rocks.
Bye for now. Love.

A scoop from Aamir Khan's blog

Its Memento not Momento!!!
Wednesday, July 04, 2007

Hello, hello, hello. Took a few days to recover from my sessions with A.R. He works through the night so I'm still jet lagging. By the way the work went really well and I'm really liking how the songs are turning out.

As you can see the paragraph problem has been solved, so no more going squint eyed.

Thanks a ton for the imputs on casting and title, some of them are really interesting and I've passed them on to the director.

Hey those of you who have not seen the Tamil version please don't feel obliged to see it. I'd rather you'll wait for the Hindi version. At this rate there wont be anyone left to see what we make in Hindi.

Guys, Mira, its MEMENTO not MOMENTO!!! Relax just kidding, I know I need to do a spell check but I'm really lazy and at 3am I'm not at my best. Ok while on Memento let me also clarify that I said that - 'I did not like Memento', which is very different from saying that - 'Memento is not a good film'. I sincerely believe that film making/viewing is extremely subjective, and that each person has his/her own opinion. And each person is entitled to his/her own opinion. So I usually take care to say that a particular film did not work for me, as opposed to its not a good film. Who am I to pass judgement on a film all I can say is that I did not like it. Others may like it and I respect that. Why Memento did not work for me is that it left me confused. By the end of the film I had no idea who had killed the hero's wife? Had she been killed at all? Had he killed his own wife? Did he finally get the guy who killed his wife? Was he still searching? Did he have a wife at all? So while, in theory, I can appreciate the attempt of writing a screenplay which travels backwards in time, at some point I need to know what actually happened in the film. And personally I feel that I should get the film without the need to read what the web says about it, or articles in magazines which explain the film. So for people who got the film... power to you! I'm sincerely glad that you enjoyed it. But I have to admit that I failed to understand what was going on, so I didn't enjoy it. And once again, having seen both films I sincerely believe that Murgadoss has written a completely different script and screenplay. Thats my personal opinioln. I can see that some of you dont agree with me, but thats fine, lets agree to disagree.

Quite a few of you have asked me how I select my films, so thats what my next post is going to be about. Till then.

Of course KSR has worked with IR for a few of his old movies like "Sakthivel", "Periya kudumbam".
And "Naataamai" was by Sirpi...

KSR must be the one director who has worked with a number of MDs - ARR, IR, YSR, Sirpi, S.A.Rajkumar, Deva, Sabesh-Murali, Srikanth Deva and now Himesh.

Asin is now acting in Hindi Gajini. She who is singing duet with Amirkhan out there was also invited to perform acting for the movie Pokiri in Hindi.Oh but, what a pity. She got no callsheet for the same.

'The deer hunter' fame Salmankhan is acting in Hindi Pokiri. Eventhough the chance of acting in Pokiri is missed she is having a good time with Gajini. The reason for that is, they have inserted the same two songs Suttum vizhi, oru malai illam veyil naeram, which was a mega hit in Tamil in Hindi too. They took the shootings for those tamil songs in the same location where they shot for Tamil Gajini. The beautiful Asin told that it reminded her of actor Surya when she went to those locations. Iyyo adhey sweet memories pa...!

Asin, is again acting with Surya in the movie Vel is a point which has to be noted by all of us at this time ! In this movie her name is Miranda Meenakshi! Her charcter is like Pepsi Uma who anchors a television show.

Let me understand this...

Did they "recycle" the tunes from "Suttum Vizhi" and "Oru Malai" into the hindi Ghajini? Or did they shoot the "replaced" songs wit ARR compositions in the SAME LOCATIONS?

Either way, it's a win-win situation. Those were probably the best two HJ compostions yet. They basically pulled a "The Gentleman" and got rights from the original composer for those two songs.

And here I thought, "NY Nargam would be awesome for "Suttam" replacement.

[tscii:4d171560c3]Asin in Namibia!
By Moviebuzz | Tuesday, 07 August , 2007, 17:58
Last week our Asin and Aamir Khan along with the rest of the Ghajani unit flew from Mumbai to Johannesburg in South Africa, enroute to Namibia for song picturisation.

This the first unit from Bollywood to shoot in Namibia, in southern Africa on the Atlantic coast. South African locations have become stale in Bollywood, and last weeks Cash was shot in Cape Town. So Aamir and the producers were looking for a new locale that has not been seen before and chose Namibia

A year back Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt holidayed in Namibia for a month putting it in the global tourism map. Namibia is as large as Germany and France put together and is prime game area and boasts of Etosha National Park which has the largest Cheetah population in the world. Namibia has also beautiful beaches and wild deserts.

Ravi.K.Chandran, the noted cameraman of Ghajani, was also thrilled to shoot in the virgin locales of Namibia, which he feels is ideal for Bollywood type song and dance. Two songs tuned by A.R Rahman, are going to be shot in Namibia on Aamir and Asin.

Remember that Asin had shot the Tamil Ghajani hit number Sutrum Vizhi Sudale…., with Surya tuned by Harris Jayaraj in Switzerland? Now for the Hindi version she is shooting with Aamir in Namibia, to a different tune by Rahman!

It may be sheer coincidence that Asin should be back in Chennai by August 14, to start her first schedule of Vel with her Tamil Ghajani hero Surya with whom she is reuniting after two years!

The film is an action thriller set to release in October. This project will be the biggest project of this year.

IndiaGlitz [Saturday, February 16, 2008]

Every time a ¡®big-budget¡¯ film is about to be released, it passes through a stage where it is compared with its predecessors. The film that is under the limelight today is Aamir Khan¡¯s next movie under production, ¡®Ghajini Remake¡¯.

Towards the end of last year Shah Rukh Khan starrer ¡®Om Shanthi Om¡¯ broke many records and fetched a record breaking Rs. 73 Crores for its rights. Now Aamir¡¯s ¡®Ghajini¡¯ has broken this record of OSO and set a new record of fetching a whooping Rs. 90 crores.

Indian Film Company has sold the domestic theatre rights of ¡®Ghajini¡¯ for a ¡®huge¡¯ 53 Crores. We have reports suggesting that no other Hindi film has been sold for this mammoth sum. Not only this but the satellite, overseas and the home video rights have fetched another 40 Crores, which makes an over all mammoth 93 Crore!

This massive investment flick, which is not yet titled, is a Hindi remake of the Tamil director A.R. Murugadoss Tamil flick ¡®Ghajini¡¯. This is the biggest movie for Aamir Khan this year where he is pairing with Asin, a South Indian beauty, who also was the heroine in the original Tamil version.

Reports close to the producer suggest that they are receiving good offers from various distribution houses. They say that they have surpassed any Indian film's record in terms of pre-release sales.

We wish this team all success!

The Hindi remake of the Tamil Ghajini starring Aamir Khan and Asin, directed by A.R Murgadoss has created history before release. The films various rights- Indian theatrical, overseas, television, etc is said to have an earned an estimated Rs 93 crores, according to the leading business newspaper “The Economic Times”.

According to a report in ET, the producers of Hindi Ghajini, leading Telugu producer Allu Aravind,( Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi’s brother- in-law) and Madhu Varma has sold domestic theatrical rights to the Mumbai based Indian Film Company (IFC) for Rs 53 crores. The producers have sold Overseas, domestic Video, and satellite rights for another Rs 40 crores.

It clearly means that Aamir Khan’s Ghajini remake in Hindi has fetched a higher price than SRK’s Om Shanti Om which was snapped up by Eros Entertainment last October for Rs 73 crore. Aamir Khan after the stupendous success of Taare Zameen Par is the biggest brand in Indian cinema.

Now Aamir’s next big release is the Hindi version of Ghajini. IFC has snapped it at such a high price because after a long time Aamir is coming out with a mass commercial action movie and the music is by A.R Rahman. For IFC, last year was very good as they distributed super hits like Jab We Met and Welcome.

A.R.Murugadoss & Aamir Khan break Indian record

By Behindwoods News Bureau.

February 19, 2008

A.R.Murugadoss and Aamir Khan have managed to pull off a national level record for the highest distribution rights paid for a single movie yet! Yes, you heard it right: their Hindi Ghajini has garnered a whooping 90 crores in distribution price for its producers Madhu Verma and Allu Arivind.

The Indian Film Company (IFC) has paid 53 crores to the producers of the movie for the domestic distribution rights. IFC had earlier distributed Jab We Met and Welcome, both of which have been profitable ventures. Overseas, satellite, online and home video rights collected another 40 crores.

This is quite a remarkable achievement considering the fact that not a single official still has been released about the movie yet.

The movie is obviously heavy weight with Aamir fresh off his Taare Zameen Par success, A.R.Rahman as the music director (the inside story is that the director has composed some mind blowing music for the movie), Ravi K Chandran in charge of camera, and Murugadoss, one of the most commercially successful directors of the south at the helm. Asin plays the lead lady of Aamir, supported by Jiah Khan

Ghajini has managed to break the record set by Om Shanthi Om, which had collected 73 crores for its distribution rights.

Now for the really interesting side of all this: Aamir is not just looking to take away Shahrukh's record on the finance-side, but also on the physical side. He is gearing up to flaunt a six pack ala Shahrukh Khan. The actor is on a strict exercise regimen, building up muscles and pumping some iron.

Call it professional rivalry at its peak!

[tscii:c760ef1c18]Murugadoss upbeat over Bollywood entry

Meera Srinivasan

A.R. Murugadoss

Chennai: Director A.R. Murugadoss of ‘Ramana’ fame is now busy in Bollywood, shooting the remake of ‘Gajini’ in Hindi with actor Aamir Khan.

With over 50 per cent of the film having been completed and three songs shot, the director can’t seem to hide his excitement about the manner in which the film is taking shape.

The director has, in a fairly short span, worked with top heroes in Tamil and Telugu such as Vijayakanth, Suriya, Chiranjeevi and now in Hindi with Aamir Khan. He is easily among the more accessible directors in the industry.

Music director A. R. Rahman’s music for the Hindi version of ‘Gajini’ has come out really well, he says.

“I am truly amazed at Aamir Khan’s dedication. His passion comes across evidently. You know he’s thoroughly enjoying himself while at work,” the director says.

Some scenes are said to have been modified and visually enhanced in the remake, which is expected to hit the cinemas in October.

Aamir will shave his head next month to play the role that won Suriya accolades. “He said he hasn’t shaved his head even as a kid…,” the director laughs.

The film has already raised expectations of movie buffs due to several reasons. For Aamir Khan, this film follows his mega hit — the critically-acclaimed ‘Taare Zameen Par.’ Fans would also be more than eager to listen to Rahman’s music after listening to his compositions for ‘Jodhaa Akbar.’ For Murugadoss, too, this project follows Telugu film ‘Stalin’ starring Chiranjeevi.

A.R. Murgadoss, the super-hit director of Tamil Ghajini was “arrested?today while coming out of the house of Sujatha in Mylapore, where he had gone to pay his last respect to the late writer!
The ace director who is now doing the Hindi version of Ghajini with Aamir Khan was arrested by the Salem Police on a complaint filed by Salem Chandrasekhar, the Tamil Ghajini producer. Chandrasekhar had filed a police complaint with the Salem Police saying that Murugadoss had kept him in the dark regarding the making of a Hindi version of Ghajini and he has not been paid his due share of the remake rights.

But the manner in which Murgadoss was surreptitiously bundled into a car by police in mufti, in full glare of heavy traffic, made it look like a “Kollywood film style kidnapping? according to onlookers.

The Chennai police have confirmed that Murgadoss was “arrested by Salem Police? and he will be produced in a Magistrate court in Salem later in the day.

[tscii:6e365fd25d]On your ambitious project Gajini in Hindi.

Gajini has shaped up very well and I’m satisfied. The movie is almost over- save for a couple of songs, the composition of which is underway. We will be able to wrap it up completely after the songs are shot.

Is the Hindi Gajini same as that of its Tamil counterpart?

I have tweaked the script a little bit to suit the taste of the Hindi speaking audience. I also made sure that the story is not tampered with fearing that the essence would be lost. However, I could see that there are a lot of improvements made basically – the 20-minute long climax the Tamil version had, has been altered a bit. Besides, we have also added another song.

There is onus on Rahman and Aamir khan to save this film.

"the 20-minute long climax the Tamil version had, has been altered a bit."

Good choice. That 20 minute climax is just 'lame, and one of the worst.

And by the way, interested to know whether there's an equivalent godawful song (the original had a song with enough shock effect , namely Nayanthara's multi-tierd belly).

So Asin will be called Kalpana again. And nothing really suggests "different" from original. "Find Ghajini" in the hand, and "Who is Ghajini" in the chest, suggests there would be a different name for the villain as "Ghajini", or it would mean a twist or uncertainty, like Aamir killed her himself. If that's the case, it would be more closer to Memento than the tamil version. Besides, Aamir has lost credibility when he says he found tamil version original better than Nolan's version. :rotfl: Downright Laughable. :lol2:

That being said, Aamir's tennis ball head looks good. Maybe it would be the next popular hair style among hinglishi guys.

Vikram with six-pack? Yeaa right!

Guess_Me
23rd October 2008, 12:14 PM
[tscii:3137cec107]Poster is real. Aamir confirms it.

When Aamir Khan’s look in his upcoming film Ghajini was released yesterday, little did anyone know that his picture with ripped muscles would turn out to be a nightmare for Dr. Surekha Verma, a resident of Kanjurmarg, who has nothing to do with the film.

A source said, “One of the assistant directors of Ghajini wrote a random number as a temporary tattoo on Aamir’s body. The pictures of Aamir were then printed in the newspaper. However, the number happened to be a lady’s number who has nothing to do with either Aamir or the film.

She woke up yesterday morning on receiving several calls asking for Aamir Khan. Initially, she wondered why she was getting calls from strangers. She realised what was happening only after she saw her number sketched on Aamir’s bicep in the newspaper.”

Fed up with the unwanted calls, the lady called up the newspaper office to air her grievances, saying that she was an ordinary citizen working at a reputed place and had been going through hell since morning. Finally, she had to switch off her phone to stop the calls from bothering her.

When contacted, Aamir said, “I really regret the inconvenience caused to the lady whose number was tattooed on my arm. Today, I received over 900 SMSes regarding my Ghajini look. I had to clean up my inbox three times since morning. I empathise with her as I can imagine what she must have gone through.”

The producer of Ghajini, Madhu Varma said, “One of the assistant directors wrote down a random number for the tattoo. We didn’t know that it would be so prominent and we didn’t foresee any such consequence. We will apologise to the lady and offer her a new phone connection.”

Giving the lady a new number seems to be the best solution because the same picture will be used in hoardings all over the country.

A source from the production unit said, “The problem will escalate as the same picture will be turned into life-size posters, which will be put in theatres all across India. The phone number will be more prominent once it’s on the hoardings.”

When we called, Dr. Surekha, she said, “It was maddening ever since I woke up to these non-stop crazy calls asking for Aamir, Anthony… I had to switch off my phone. How can anyone just use my number like that, without my knowledge, forget my consent.”

Aamir and Madhu Varma were apologetic and regretted the inconvenience. They said that they would like to offer her a new number. Surekha accepted that and said, “I am fine if they have a new number for me, I can't continue with this number anymore.”

In the film, Aamir plays a man who loses his memory after every 15 minutes because of which he writes everything that he needs to remember on his body for quick reference.[/tscii:3137cec107]

north indians are much practical than guys in tamilnadu........they watch a movie in theater and leave it at theater and dont rub it on their lives and laptops and wives like here.......the no. of people emulating stars in north is very very less atleast in mumbai.......

having said that, aamir's get up is kick-ass......differentiates men from boys :smokesmirk:

If i remember correctly Aamir's Dil Chahta Hai look was a big hit and everyone was spotting that unevenly cut hair and pointed goatee....so they DO copy bro

Maddy, I beg to differ.

Rajesh Khanna's car used to be kissed by female fans every day. They also sent him letters written in blood! Every Khan and Kapoor in town (including the one-film-wonders with the above surnames) have had such crazy fans. If you may recall, a dance extra did a big suicide drama in front of Bacchan Junior's house on the eve of his wedding, claiming taht she is married to him. She was from Bombay.

From Salman Khan's horrible wig in Tere Naam to Himesh Reshammiya's skull cap, from Sanjay Dutt's long hair to Madhuri Dixit's 2 Lakh rupee saree - they were all copied by people up north (including aamchi Mumbai)

The fact that every year thousands of fans from all over the North sell off their belongings and take the train to Bombay, only to camp putside of their beloved Amitji in front of his Juhu residence cannot be overlooked.

Tt's sad to see that Bollywood is the only thing that figures in the conversations of most kids in Bombay these days - from Salman's latest affair to starlet Neha Dhupia's ex's ex to Saif sporting kareena's name on tattoo to Rakhi Sawant's botox job to Shakti Kappor's son's involvement in the rave party bust - Bollywood is all they talk about, email and SMS about.

Ganeshotsav and Janmashtami have degenerated to becoming Bollywood item-shows - where 5 to 40 year olds dressed in attrotious filmi attire dance to 'item numbers' in front of a whistling and hooting audience - be it a housing society or a public square.

A few years ago, India Today carried an interesting report about the latest trend of newly weds in Bombay and Gujarat: When they go on their honeymoon to places like Kulu Manali and Ooty, they take their videographer along to the choicest of filmi spots so they could capture their dance movements set to popular Hindi songs, and add it to the wedding video.

To top it all, when Amitabh was recently admitted to a local hospital for 'constipation', there were hourly updates aired by mainstream TV media, on whether or not he was able to pass stool! 'Breaking News' telecast Bachchan fans performing Aarti and puja to their beloved star and performing Havans for the speedy 'recovery'. Our Bhais and Behenjis were only relieved when he was able to relieve himself.

So much for the stereotypical image (once again, created by the mainstream North Indian media) of South Indians being one of a kind when it comes to their fascination for anything filmi!

Maddy,

I didn't particularly mean North indian guys will sport that look because they are too fanatic, etc. "Hinglishi" is just to notify "hip"guys who ape such styles from popular Hindi films. It happened after Hritik roshan in Dhoom, Aamir from "On that waterfront" ripoff (forgot the film's name), etc.

see, people trying to meet amit-ji is a thing of past..........UP bhayyas who come to mumbai to work are curious to meet him thats all.........i have seen jackie shroff crossing juhu signal without any crowd flutter.......

and news channels coverng amitabh's constipation - arggh, come on......i dont know, the day is not far when they will put cartoons to show news abt rape :x

Aamir Khan's Ghajini was slated for a Diwali release this year, but it had to be postponed because Aamir suffered a ligament injury. Not satisfied by this decision, Aamir wanted to create some kind of buzz for the film. Now he is releasing the promos of the film today.

Our source close to Aamir Khan said, "Originally, even when Aamir was making Taare Zameen Par, he had planned a Diwali release for Ghajini. But because of his ligament injury he had to take a break for two months as he couldn't shoot for the stunts. So the release had to be postponed. But Aamir was hell-bent on having a Diwali release, even if it was only the promos. He decided to release at least the first
moving visuals on Diwali."

Since the past fifteen days, Aamir has been slogging to complete the promos on time. Our source continued, "Aamir has been working non-stop in order to meet the deadline. He requested A R Rahman to put aside his other commitments and come to Mumbai to work on the background score of the promos. Rahman, who generally doesn't work outside Chennai, gave in to this last minute request and came to Mumbai. He has been working in a Mumbai lab for the past four days, only on Aamir's insistence. Being such a perfectionist, he didn't want to compromise on anything at all."

Producer, Madhu Varma confirmed the report and said, "When we had started the project, it was supposed to be a Diwali 2008 release. Unfortunately, Aamir injured himself on the sets during one of the action scenes and we were not able to release the film on Diwali. Now we are releasing the first visuals of the film today."

We couldn't talk to Aamir for confirmation as he was tied up with the last minute colour correction of the prints

Now that the trailer is out I have a feeling this is Rahman's first out and out commercial movie in Hindi after a long time. The Tamil movie was a massive Hit, tamilians will undoubtedly compare this to HJ's Ghajini.

As a HCARR fan the only thing I'm curious about is how ARR handles this movie and what type of sound he uses. Will he attempt to experiment?

While we patiently wait for the audio i expect the following events;
1. People going crazy over 20 sec of music clips.
2. Tense and excruciatingly painful last minutes of waiting for the official release.
3. Eventually a bunch of guys claiming Ghajini to be ARR's best and another group of extremely unhappy coustomers......hmmmmm.....
4. The real Fate would be??????

I think it would be interesting if WE fans state on this forum what type of songs we expect before the release and see if this was satisfied. this would also keep in check people thrashing ARR for nothing , what ya'll say?

1)looking forward for a classy bgm when Aamir walks out of the plane
2)a sad one (in lines of enigma) when mottai Aamir thinks of this past
3)A Happy and bubbly one when asin and Aamir meet.

ARR seems to be "Chaiya Chaiya" music friendly in the promo. No prizes for guessing that his "current favorite", Benny Dayal is the one crooning in it. Seems to be the "Oru Maalai" version.

Aamir looks....wow, hard work paid off. But the "Max Payne" touch with Bald Aamir looks great. Though he's looking odd while walking with the 8 pack in the desert with some clothes (a mimic on Hrthik perhaps?)

Is Peter Hains doing the stunts because by god they look cool.

Heard the music's supposed to be out before his Yuvvraaj releases. Going by tradition, I'm guessing the week of Nov. 15th (this is a magic guess, that is all.)

[tscii:aa2d6cec2d]Movies,

Rahman has been consistenly good (not great nor pathbreaking) in 2008 with just Khajri on the duct. JA is phenomenal (10/10) Every song is exemplary. JTYJN is trendy & youthful. Ada & sakkarakati has their own upshot. Yuvaraaj is Ghai's mixed bag. Shano Shano, Mastam are just passable. My fav is Tu Meri Dost Hain. Gorgeous romantic melody, neatly structured with lovely interludes. Beny Dayal,Shreya, Rahman part rocks bigtime, Dil Ka Rishta & Manmohini Morey are pioneering. Brilliant!

Reg Ghajni, I have posted earlier as well, the script doest have any scope for music infact songs and picturisation will sure reduce the pace of the screenplay but with Aamir's association I am sure for songs alone Rahman would have put some/more valuable time in extracting something fresh and innovative. Simple & Instantly likeable.
Man, I am sick of these remixes don’t know how ARR is caught by this syndrome. Please get out of it.

Scale,

What are you talking about? Ghajini was an out and out commercial movie. Same old stroy of revenge with a major twist. Indian Cinema has lived on such scripts and music has been an integral part of it's success. HJ came out triumphant.

I expect a superhit commercial album, on lines of Indian/ muthalvan, which ARR has not treated his fans with in a long time, including sivaji.

This track is haunting. Took me right back to Pachai Nirame days.

I particularly love it when ARR songs have lyrics with repeating words, like here it is "Pyaaz Pyaaz", "Rang Rang", "Thang Thang" etc...I feel like these words actually serve the purpose of the beats, you know, like they give an occasional bump to the song.

Oh no not again, How can you guys comment on a song or an album based on 40 secs of clipping? Especially an ARR album, which has soo much details?

I wasn't too bothered about comments from guys like Mumbairamki but dinesh, I never realised you have knee jerk reflexes too!

As I mentioned earlier, it is inevitable that the hindi Ghajini and Tamil Ghajini are gonne be compared. For instance take Kadhalukku Mariyadhai and DSKR.

BTW, at the time of Ghajini Surya was not really a big name like he is now and honestly the songs were a hit and major USP prior to the movie release.

As a fact we know Amir Khan is better than Surya and ARR is better than HJ, but what would be interesting is who is better in Ghajini, ie, amir vs Surya and ARR vs HJ.

Wether we like it or not HJ fans will use this movie for comparison if ARR doesn't shine. If ARR does one better then we can ones and for all shut HJ fans.

Movies, 1st i would like to correct ur statement, its not a 40 sec clip but a solid 1 min.... just kiding...

nah man, its nothing like comparing, ofcource HJ fans, and ofcource Tamil Music Lovers will definetly is more bent towards the Tamil version, and come on, i dun need to tell u about the magic that ARR has given us in a mere 30 secs advertisement or even some other movie's trailers *read : Yuvvraaj, Sivaji The Boss, SOK*

Well, its a whole different story with Ghajini here, the initial trailer, the 1st 1 which had only instrumental version of this song, no doubt was mind blowing, but when i heard this, i was " why sound so dull??" .... i seriously dun mind im in the wrong side when the album releases, becoz i have a feeling there r other better songs in Ghajini that will shut my mouth, lol. But if this is the Suttum Vizhi for Hindi version, then i have no comments then... :)

and please, whats with this " dun comment on trailer bits" ... im sure they would want us to comment and see our 1st hand reaction on the music isnt it... whats the use the trailer is up and we keep numb ? Lets keep it alive by discussing on everything about the movie....

btw, the camera work by Ravi.K.Chandran is the MAJOR highlight of that song..... he clearly SHINES there.... just beautiful.... and is that Asin??? She looks awfully gorgeous there!! Something i didint expect.... these r the 2 factors i was truly amazed when i saw the trailer.... :D

Dinesh,

Indeed Trailers are made for comments. Infact it should act as an attraction or repellant. But I was refering to writing off a song or a album based on that 1 min. Its like not reading a book cause of the cover ;)

Indeed I agree the song stunning. Murgados does have a knack for decent picturisation. Another major reason for Sutrum Vizhi being a huge hit was the picturisation ( the still frames)

right now...between Guzarish and Haule Haule (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi) ..i think Haule Haule stands poles apart. And SRK-factor will definitely push it further. So unless Gajni has something really different to offer, it might loose it's stand against RNBDJ

watch out Aamir-ARR...

srk factor cannot spoil amir-arr combo. This combo always rock. already im addicted to this song with the bad quality itself. RNBDJ songs are good but when comes to rahman standards they are very average.
