Ek Lo is quite funny when SPB sings it

Karthik is good rendering Baazi Laga hope he does it in Tamil too

Hariharan as we all know done a great job in Ay Hairathe, donned the telugu version pretty well, It's sad to hear he's not doing it in Tamil. As for Sujatha, hasn't lost her touch (long time with Rahman)

Maaya Maaya didn't have the same catch as the Hindi version (maybe I'm to addicted to the Hindi version)

Those 2 "additional songs" were the BGM pieces from the film's score. One of them ("Gurubhai Gurubhai...Dhoom Dhamaka") has appeared on trailer spots/TV promos etc.

Eh, the Telugu songs are okay. Mayya is by far the worst dub song.

Let's see how the Tamil audio fares...while we're still wating. (wonders if there's a telugu-tamil translator online...)

Maniratnam breaks his trend

January 04, 2007

This news is sponsored by www.behindbikes.com

Mani and the team of Guru are all agog these days. Guru has just been wrapped up and is all set to be premiered in Canada. The event is scheduled on January 11 in Canada, which will be attended by the crewmembers, including Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachan, A.R. Rahman, and Mani Ratnam.

Rumored to be based on the life of business tycoon Ambani, Guru has raised the bar among NRIs as well. Quite unusual to his style of movie making, Mani flown the cast and crew this time to Istanbul for the song Mayya Mayya which has already become quite a rage among the music lovers.

Slamming the rumors about Ambani connection, Mani stated: Guru is a story about an ordinary man striking gold and becoming a business icon. This movie has nothing to do with Ambani family.

Besides, I opted for Abhishek and Aishwarya not because they were in a relationship, but only they befitted my roles, he added before signing off. Well, we believe you Mani.

[tscii:199cab9bc3]Nasser also dubs for GURU [Tamil Dub]

http://indiafm.com/news/2007/01/05/8577/index.html

Leading Tamil actor Surya has dubbed for Abhishek Bachchan in the Tamil version of GURU, while veteran actor Nasser has dubbed for Mithun Chakraborty. Madhavan, who has featured in a number of Mani Ratnam movies including GURU, has dubbed his lines himself, while a top actress has dubbed for Aishwarya Rai. “Ash has a performance-oriented role, hence we decided to have an actress dub her portions, instead of hiring the services of a dubbing artist,” GURU producer G. Srinivasan informs me.

Meanwhile, the title GURU will be retained for the Tamil version, but in Telugu it’s GURUKANTH. Also, the Tamil and Telugu versions will be released with 75-100 prints in South India.

just saw "making of Guru" on CNN-IBN tv...here's the gist of the show in my words:

1. BGM is surely gonna rock...that initial rock'n'roll piece in the website is there in the movie...... :D
2. Madhavan plays the antoganist for Guru... .....though he is morally right, he is wrong in eyes of Guru.....
3. Mayya Mayya will be the first ever Maniratnam song shot outside India....
4. "Gurbhai Gurubhai aagaya-che" bit song is in Gujarati which almost confirms that Gurukanth Desai = Dhirubhai Ambani.... 8-)
5. There's a bit song for Vidya balan's role as well......couldnt gather any lyrics/music, but there's surely a song for Vidya-Maddy.....

i'm just hoping that movie is a bit interesting and has a racy screenplay.........if its there, then Powerful storyline(obviosuly, ambani's story is very powerful even while reading) Abhishek's strong performance,ARR's breathtaking music,Ash's charm, Mani's magic is enuf to pull this movie to the first blockbuster of 2007...... 8-) 8-) :D

Anyways, looking forward to hearing it's dubbed version.

By the way, the Vidya-Maddy bit is probably the "BGM" that Rahman added to the soundtrack. By the time the film releases, depending on the response, we MIGHT get a re-release of the audio with the BGM tracks. (I'm guesstimating...)

Better than Hindi
SPB's Ek Lo Ek Muft

As good as hindi
Ey Hairathen (Sujatha is so sweet)
Barso Re
Jaage (vocals sound clearer in tamil)
Baazee Laga

Not as good as Hindi
Mayya Mayya (just ok)
Tere Bina (disappointing)

Yupp.... Paisa Paisa sounds so weird... esp with simple lyrics with powerful music.... Karthik & Madhushree did thier part great...

Jodi Jodi is simply amazing.... WOW.... the music suits tamil so well!! and SPB did a fantastic job....
lyrics was fun & yella yella yella yella sounded very rusty folk kind....

Aaruyire has only 1 minus point... some parts by ARR the singer didint sound rite & sweet... he sounded awefully sweet in Nuvve Lekha, the telugu version ...other than that...the lyrics, chinmaye & the Dum mare Dum mare chant is mesmerising just like the hindi 1... but overall the original version scores the best!

Ye Manburu Mangaiye is simply amazing... breathtaking.... Srinivas did an excellent job...im not missing hariharan here... sujatha did a good job as well.... lyrics was bombastic!! very much in par with the original version....

Ore Kana has no minus poitns at all.... its sounded perfect & normal....

Mayya Mayya.... Chinmayi shows she can sing item number songs as well, but went overboard with her Arabic accent in some places...lyrics was fine ..... the hindi version is much better...

Nanare no minus points in this too... sounded perfect & jus as great as the hindi version... thanks to Sherya Ghosal & VM's lyrics....

My pick from this album

Jodi Jodi (S.P.B Sound thousand time better than bapida) (First song i like in this album too)

Ye Manpuru Mangaye (Srinivas life savier of this song along with sujatha)

Aaruyire - dunno wht to say about this song, like chinmayi voice a lot,VM lyrics and Arr sound kinda weird. anyway like the song.

Paisa Paisa - make me wondering is that karthik voice, damn its sound different to me... & (some of Madhushree tamil word dont understand :( ) average song.

Mayea Mayea - Worst song i can say, maybe will grow after few listening.

Nannare - Nicely redered by Shreya 8-)

Ore Kana - No flow!

On first hearing Nanare and Eh Manburu Mangaye are the only two songs that do not sound weird.

Disappointed with VM... Vaali definitly did a better job with good lyrics that suited well the already composed songs for Desam.

"En Asai thaaguthu unmele" what is this? Do we need a VM for this? ARR should work with Na.Muthukumar and Kabilan...

Hey guys, I agree lyrics for some of the songs r awkward, but even Rahman said in an interview that Vairamuthu needs more time to come up with lyrics. As u guys know, MR wasnt going to dub it into tamil and the sudden decision to dub it gave vairamuthu less time. But we can see that he hasnt lost his touch with Manburu Mangaiye. No lyricist can come up with lyrics like those, jsut magical. Aaruyire is also good. Ore kanaa is fine. The onyl dissapointment for me is paisa paisa. I also noticed that vairamuthu used some sri lankan tamil in this album which might sound awkward for some of u. For example, in mayea mayea, the initial singing, "naan SEENIYIL seitha katal", that acutually means sugar. Another word that is heard in the album is PETTAI (girl) in jodi jodi. Have fun guys, the songs r not bad.

My review for the tamil guru:

Aaruriye was great it caught my attention almost immediatly and i think it is better then Tere Bina

Jodi Jodi was fine and I think on par with the hindi one

Ore Kana was great and just as good as the hindi one. No complaints here.Arr music is so mesmerising u could hear w/o the lyrics and it would be even better

Ye Manpura mangaye was good nothing much and sounded as goos as the original as was Nannare.

MY BIGGEST DISSAPOINTMENT

1) Paisa Pais(Baazi Laga)
What a dissapointment it was.It was one of my most fav song in the hindi verion.I liked it so much because of the variations it had in one single song.If u listen to the song in the original it will just make u stand and dance to it like nobody's bussiness.Just listen to the intro bits and the music staring from 2.45 mins it is great.I really loved it and totally got taken aback by the the tamil version. The use of lyrics like "Kassu illati..."such lyrics used were really astonishing and i agree with some of the hubbbers that if this song were given to vaali he would have done a better job.I think the only saving grace for this song is the music

2)Mayae Mayae(Mayya Mayya)
My pick of the album for the album for the hindi version and the 2nd worst song in the tamil version and that speaks volume for itself.I think i am more used to the hindi version or what but i somewhat don't get the feel i get in hindi. It lacks substance.Maybe it will take time to like it but after listening to the tamil verion....

On a whole I think the tamil is not as good as the hindi one.Except for Aauriye.I think the other are as good or far worst then the hindi one.I will continue listening to the hindi version even though i don;t understand the language. This is the 1st time i am so crazy abt a hindi music and it is becaus of ARR.

The dubbing and lyrics of the tamil dub were done poorly. Vaali would've been a better choice than Vairamuthu.

[tscii:e4bb666002]Guru– Music Review
- Vignesh Ram

Direction: Maniratnam
Music: A.R. Rahman
Lyrics: Vairamuthu

The musical magic of Mani-ARR-Vairamuthu team never ceases to work wonders and provide an auditory treat. The saga continues in Guru (Tamil).

The title "Guru" is a special one, because it holds the same meaning in all the regional languages and Hindi. Guru, a Kamal starrer had wonderful songs, not to mention the Malayalam "Guru", a Mohanlal starrer. Now this 2007 "Guru" is in line with those records.

Though controversies erupted as it is said that the storyline of Guru resembles the life history of Dhirubai Ambani, they had actually helped in the publicity of the flick. Strongly supported by the Star-cast of Abishek, Aishwarya, Madhavan and Vidya balan, light & magic by Rajeev Menon and with Mani wielding the megaphone, Guru is the country's most awaited film of the year.

Nan Nare
Shreya Ghosal, Uday Mazumdar
There are certain ingredients you will definitely find in Mani's flicks. Heroine dancing and singing in rain is one such commonly found stuff in his movies. Guru is not an exception. Aish gets introduced in a rain song. The initial humming "nan naare" has a hangover of humming in "Ammi midichaachu" in "Sillunu oru kaadhal". Guess both were composed during the same time period. The song starts with a mild humming, then accompanied by flute and then with the toe-tapping rhythm pattern (though resembles that of the rain song "Sil sil mazhaiye "of "Arindhum ariyaamalum"), takes off to wonderful, joyful mood and one can feel as if its raining around, just by listening to the song. Looks like Shreya's hit graph is in course of a steep rise and she is just brilliant in rendering style and bringing out the energy and mood required for such song.

It is to be noted that, the situation of the song is not just an intro song of the girl singing in rain, but she is ready to elope and bids adieu to all her favorites at home.

Mayya Mayya
Chinmayee, Mariyam Toller, Keerthi
Maryem Toller, Egypt-born and now Canada based singer is roped in for this song, to lend vocals for Mallika Sherawat on screen. Right from the prelude to the tune and style of singing, has the strong middle-eastern feel all through. Vairamuthu has given splendid lyrics as the dancer girl describing herself and it fits the situation of the song to the T. One cannot deny that this song strongly reminds of "ennuyire" from Mani's "Uyire".

Aaruyire
A.R.Rahman, Chinmayee, Quadir, Murtuza
Rahman had musical collaboration with Nusrat Fateh Ali khan for his "Vande mataram" and is a great fan and admirer of him. As a tribute to the late genius, Rahman has come out with this song, strongly inspired by Khan and rightly dedicated to him. The sore point is that, though the orchestration is grand and instantly catchy, the Tamil lyrics do not gel with the tune as the Hindi lyrics. There is also a strong suspicion for everyone including Rahman, if his voice will suit Abishek. Mani has picturised this song in Madurai Thirumalai nayakkar mahal. Don't know if it’s a sentiment for Mani as he had placed camera there for his previous films "Bombay" and "Iruvar". The "dum dhara" chanting that comes all through this song has a slight resemblance with chanting tune of Gayathri mantra.

Ye Manburu Mangaiye
Srinivas, Sujatha, A.R.Rahman And Aslam
A word of caution- this song is highly addictive and will mesmerize the listener instantly. The prelude brings back memories of Iruvar’s "Poongodiyin punnagai" song. Srinivas has done a wonderful job of taking the already superb song to new dimensions. He has replaced Hariharan who had sung the Hindi version and has done justice to that. Kudos to Vairamuthu for his lyrics with usage of pure tamil words from historic Tamil literatures, for a dubbed film.

Paisa Paisa
Karthik, Madhushree
This song promptly reminds us that "Guru" is a period film. What an amazing tune from the master, that takes sharp twists and turns? Again, one can't stop the de ja vu feeling on listening to the song. Karthik has done a wonderful job in this challenging song. The song has philosophical touch all over, listing out the consequences of having and not having money.

Ore Kana
A.R.Rahman, Chitra, Madras Chorale Group
There is a famous advertising slogan for a fabric- "Have you ever felt like flying?" One will surely feel like flying on closing the eyes and listening to this song, beautified with grand orchestration. This kind of magical score can occur only when geniuses like Rahman and Mani work together. This song, in enchanting voice of Chitra and Rahman, is sure to create the needed impact, along with visuals.

Jodi Jodi
S.P.Balasubramaniam, Chitra And Chorus
The song begins in a comical way and one can't resist the urge to skip the song. But S.P.B has given a new dimension to this song with his mesmerizing voice and exactly imitating a person on booze. The situation is that, Guru is blessed with twin daughters and he is celebrating it with his villagers. The song is set in folk style and an average cine goer from South India can relate to this song very well than any other songs of this album.

Verdict:
Rahman is back in form and “Guru” is a special musical treat from the Master.

The lyrics for Mayya Mayya has been written well and is in perfect sync with the tune. I thought HH could have sung yeh MaaNburu in Tamil as well. HH and Chithra in Tamil would have been a tad better. But the song is an absolute winner and would sound good in any language

[tscii:0ba0b05e71]Song - 1

Venmeghame

Album : Guru

Singer(s) : Shreya Ghoshal, Uday Mazumdar

Music director : A.R.Rahman

The king is at the top spot. If he is not tuning songs for original Tamil movies, even dubbed songs make it to the top. Melody that leaves one asking for more. A song that stamps Rahman’s class.

Did Maryam Teller sing the tamil version of Mayya Mayya too? If so, Iam impressed with her diction. Better than some of the Mumbai imports I hear in Tamil songs these days.

It was Chinmayee. Maryam's hindi was bad enough; its too much to expect her to sing so well in tamil :-)

hi guys
just now saw guru tamil version.one word "awsome".mani has again come up with a scintilating job.not sure if the story is inspired from any hollywood movie but no issues mani has dealt the film in his own way.his dealing with emotions of each and every character in the movie is the highlight and has always been the uniqueness of his.abishek wow!! i didn know this guy can act like kamalhasan.first time ishwaria rai has done full justice to her acting potential..maddy looked thin and smart.vidyas role was superb and her scenes with maddy were absolutely cute.
arr was stunning esp with grand bgms he plays an important role in the movie.the chanting of gurubahai gurubahi vandhachu is perfectly apt considering the situation a man coming up in life slowly and powerfully.the song "barsore" provides one of the best intro for the heroine .rajiv menon as usual has done a neat commendable job.the only cons i find in this movie is dubbing could have been better if the movie was remade in tamil.not sure if the movie will become hit in tamil cos of casting.no doubts abhishek was just superb but still to attract crowds in tamilnadu tamil actors could have been casted.overall the movie is majestic and inspiring.kudos to mani!!

Abhishek pachan, Aishwarya rai
