After all, a friend is someone who can accept you for what you are, and to do that, he/she must be able to put up with your individual quirks that make you uniquely you! This is true for any friend.

And that is true for married life as well. The ability to adjust to each other, and more importantly, to have the required patience to learn that adjustment. Relationships happen over time, by constantly and patiently working on them.

Badri, I am surprised by your views about marriage! Also saddened at your not recognising a serious, incurable(almost, I hear) medical problem. I am deeply moved by 2 such instances in our close circle (in both cases the girls side near to me, hence my more sympathetic understanding of the girls' plight). This is NOT a question of being patient or not. It is pathological, with no known treatment yet. Badri, I am really disappointed at your not being fair to the fair sex!

I was under the impression there would probably be a cure! I did not know it was incurable! And hence I thought the girls were being a bit too impatient, that is all!

And I am not still convinced that it is really incurable, Mrs PP. Err...I am thinking we are speaking about the same condition!!!

Sip & Badri : I think i have not been able to convey properly my views. I didn't say sex is the be all and end all of married life. what i meant was, it IS ESSENTIAL in married life - atleast in initial years. Practically speaking, in modern times, if a person doesnt find sexual fulfilment in marriage, there'a high possibility that he might go astray. Or as in case of women (for eg the lady in the story), the marriage will break up.

If sex was not required for procreation, Mother Nature wouldn't have included it in the first place, with the pleasure element in it. For the initial bond between a married couple to become strong and grow into understanding & friendship, sexual bond is ALSO necessary, atleast in the initial stages of marriage. In many real life instances i have seen, the husband becomes bed ridden due to some disease or, becomes 'not functional' after some years. In such cases, the marriages have held strong bcos the couple had crossed the sexual barrier too. And there was no more feeling of lacking something, either for the husband or the wife. Morover, in married life, even in love marriages, there arise many misunderstandings and grouses between the couple. And such problems get magnified if there's lack of sex in the relationship. Again i am talking about the initial stages of married life.

Only in rare cases, one may find instances where the wife or husband has not been able to fulfil the nuptial duties properly, and the marriage remained successful - WITHOUT either partner seeking fulfilment outside marriage. And i havent seen any such real life couples in modern times.

Sipi, the disagreements here mainly rise, I think, because of a certain generation gap or in other words how such a problem( very very rare one) is viewed from the angle of parents. A girl child is to her parents Bharathi's own Kannamma, chinnanjchiRu kiLi, selva kaLanjsiyam etc. This story is based on real life. 2 girls of families closely known to us happened to be affected in this way. Both girls were engineers, as also the grooms. One of the girls' father died of heart attack after the misfortune. The parents of another girl are yet to recover from the trauma. I reveal this background for my story for you to understand how 'this' also is included in the conjugal rights of a girl! Nobody will like being caught unawares in such a predicament, after all is said & done!

I am still confused as to the view subtly hinted here.

Is relationship IMPORTANT for marital life?

My personal opinion is NO. Not necessary.

Plantonic relationships are quite possible too, it all depends on HOW MUCH WE LOVE the person.[/tscii:ab82a49f19]

Sipi, it is sensible to be practical in our concept of marriage, no use speaking hypothetically.

yEttu churakkaa , karikkudhavaadhunreengalaa :? but I am going with Sipi and Badri's view :) apdi irundhaa nallaa irukkum'nu thonudhu :P

FYKI I have never succeeded in bringing myself to appreciate/applaud presentday writers propagating revolutionary, feminist, women's emancipation ideas/solutions/narrations!!!!!!!!!

there is a border line.... if suppose the person ( who writers propagating revolutionary, feminist, women's emancipation ideas/solutions/narrations ) doent cross that line, I will appreciate/applaud :D I hope u too ?
