[tscii:9359d50549]Kareena and Aamir finalized for Mani Ratnam’s Lajjo
By IndiaFM News Bureau, August 7, 2006 - 02:39 IST

Kareena is on a high these days. So giving a fine performance in Omkara, she has signed on for Mani Ratnam’s Lajjo. The film will be an adaptation of Ismat Chugtai’s book of the same name. The interesting part is that she will be paired together for the first time with Aamir Khan.

This will be Kareena’s second period film after Asoka. Kareena feels glad that she has got an opportunity to play such role at this phase of her career.

She has already started reading Chugtai’s period love story to understand her role and to get into the skin of the character. Previously she had worked with Mani Ratman for Yuva and is he is currently busy shooting for his forthcoming filmGuru. Lajjo will go on floor in January and will be out in mid 2007.

'Lajjo' launch shifted ahead?

Has Mani Ratnam postponed the launch of his new film LAJJO, starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead? That?s the buzz in the industry. A source close to one of the actors told this writer that LAJJO, which was scheduled to take off in January 2007, has been postponed by another four/five months.

What?s the reason for the delay? ?It seems, Mani is concentrating on the finishing touches of GURU and therefore, wasn?t able to devote much time to the pre-shooting work of LAJJO. Also, he didn?t want to rush into LAJJO while handling the post-production work of GURU. Hence, the gap,? the trustworthy source reveals.

Mani has now asked his actors to allot dates after a couple of months so that he can shoot LAJJO in a single start-to-finish schedule.

[tscii:0e3a9d4536]Mani Rathnam’s next movie gets delayed Nov 04, 2006

Mani Rathnam is in the process of giving final touches to Guru, the Hindi film that he is involved with currently. The film had completed a major chunk of the shoot in Chennai some time back.

Occasionally, post production work exceeds the time schedule that has been set aside for. Mani Rathnam being a perfectionist would not rest until the end product shapes up the way he expects it to. Reliable sources reveal that Guru would be ready for release soon.

Meanwhile, Lajjo, a project that was slated to commence in January next year with Mani as the director is likely to get delayed due to this. Amir Khan and Kareena Kapoor are the lead actors in this film. In fact Kareena is very busy trying to learn chaste Urdu and dance lessons for Lajjo.

Mani Rathnam has also requested the lead artists to postpone their call sheets for Lajjo and give him en masse dates to enable him to complete in one single shoot. When a director like Mani Rathnam requests, the artists are sure to oblige him.

What is the status of Lajjo?

Trade reports suggest that the film has been shelved. The last that I know of it is that Mani Ratnam is working on the songs and the script. If there is any change, I'll check and get back to you.
