Rasathantram - safe comeback of the star duo
IndiaGlitz [Friday, April 07, 2006]

Rasathantram opened in 46 centres in the state today, with great responses. The film is a safe bet for all family audiences, according to the first reports.

Mohanlal's down to earth role as a carpenter and his subtle comedies throughout the film reassure his coming back to graceful acting. Meera Jasmine and Innocent also have raked in good performances. The mass also loves the good tunes by Ilayaraja, put to beautiful visual harmony by Sathyan Anthikkad.

The comeback of Sathyan - Mohanlal team again after 12 years has recreated the magic that the cinegoers expected from them, says the first show viewers.

[tscii]Latest non Rasathanthram (Chemistry)

experts from Sify review

The Chemistry or Rasathantram between Mohanlal and director Sathyan Anthikkad is as bubbling as it was 12 years back. Savour the feel and emotions in a typical Sathyan film. Don’t look for great cinema, just enjoy as nice guys may lose initially but they end up as winners in the end.

The Movie works on the Sathyan formula of Mohanlal as a do-gooder and provides comedy and sentiments in the right dose. Mohanlal is simply superb and his comedy timing, controlled emotions and outburst in the climax take the film to great heights.

Meera is perfect foil for Mohanlal and she does a great comedy act. As Velayudhan Kutty in disguise, her body language is a treat to watch. The way she falls for Premachandran and slowly makes him interested in her can be done only by a versatile actress like Meera. Gopi as Mohanlal’s father is a right choice as the father-son emotional scenes are well handled.

And at the end and you come out of the theatre smiling, it is only due to Mohanlal as nobody can do comedy so naturally.

Verdict: Family Entertainer

[tscii:d511c75764]Rasathanthram A super-hit!

| Saturday, 15 April , 2006, 13:03

“The early bird catches the worm” the old proverb has been proved correct by producer Antony Perumbavoor and distributor Alex George. Their decision to release Rasathantram a week before Vishu has paid off at the Kerala box-office.
The film has been declared a super hit and has taken a gargantuan opening gobbling Rs 1.06 Crore as distributors share from 43 screens in its first week (April 7 to 13). In Mohanlal citadels like Tiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Trichur, Palakkad and Manjeri too reported 100 percent opening.

It was the Sathyan Anthikkad-Mohanlal combination that brought in the audience to the theatres. Added to that Meera Jasmine and Ilayaraja’s music were added highlights. And with schools closing for summer vacations the family audiences are going to embrace the film.

Speaking to Moviebuzz from the cool climes of Kashmir where he is shooting for Keerthi Chakra Mohanlal said: “I am very happy that Rasathantram is a huge hit. All credit goes to Sathyan and it was a well-made family entertainer which took the best ever opening in recent times”.

[tscii:7243e23bea]Mohanlal is Major Mahadevan!

By Moviebuzz | Wednesday, 19 April , 2006, 12:36

Mohanlal is now in Kashmir doing the shooting of Major Ravi a former assistant of Priyadarshan ’s army based action adventure Keerthichakra. Last week Priyadarshan himself flew down to Srinagar from London (Where he is shooting for his new Akshay Kumar- Govinda Starrer ) to give moral support to Ravi.
Priyan ended up having Vishu lunch with the team of Keerthichakra including Mohanlal on a Shikara(Houseboat) on Dal lake in Srinagar. Mohanlal has lost weight for the role of Major Mahadevan a daring army officer in charge of operations against terrorist. Tamil actor Jeeva plays a havaladar who is his right-hand man. Gopika plays Jeeva’s love and Lakshmi Gopalasamy is Mohanlal’s wife in Palakkad.

Major Ravi will be in Kashmir till April 25 and later the unit will move to Pollachi and Palakkad. Says Ravi: “The story is etched out of my army life and it will be a fast paced bilingual which we plan to release on July 7.

[tscii:6553689da3]The Vishu report card

By Moviebuzz | Monday, 24 April , 2006, 17:22

Mohanlal has walked away with the Vishu-Easter box-office with his super hit Sathyan Anthikkad film Rasathantram. It is the clear winner as the family audiences have embraced the film.
At second place is Mammootty’s crass comedy Thuruppu Gulan which took a fantastic opening but took a dip in collections in its second week. But still the film is a hit and way down at number three is Suresh Gopi’s Chintamani Kolacase which is an average grosser.

Dileep’s Pachakuthira is at fourth place while Jayaram’s Madhuchandralekha is at is at fifth place and both are losing propositions.

On the whole the superstars continue to rule the Kerala box-office.

Prince,

All excellent movies prince.

Dauthyam - He is a military commando, right?

MoonamMura - Yes he is police but emphasis is on a commando operation that has little aspects of police officer (looks more like a spy operation like Dauthyam)

Mukham - Now this is a class police role. The story and direction is so realistic. And when Mohanlal get such a role its MAGIC

Company - Do I need to say.

Mohanlal gets Vishukaineetam!

Friday, 28 April , 2006, 16:57

http://sify.com/movies/malayalam/fullstory.php?id=14194239

For the last three years Mohanlal was upset that he did not have a Vishu box-office hit. He had told people close to him that he could not get Vishukaineetam from the audience of Kerala for three continuous years!
His Vishu releases - Kilichundan Mambazham (2003), Vismayathumbathu (2004) and Chandrolsavam(2005) were all flops. Now finally, this year the family audience have made his Rasathantram a super hit and a winner at the Vishu box-office.

Rasathantram has collected an amazing Rs 2.15 Crore as distributors share for three weeks (April 7-27) so far. The film is expected to collect around Rs 3.25 Crore from releasing stations alone making it a huge hit.

Mohanlal's Xmas film for Shaji Kailas

Shaji Kailas will direct the X'mas film of Mohanlal. This film which will be produced by Aashirvaad cinemas will be scripted by T.A.Shahid.
The film will feature Mohanlal as Alibhai, a real life character who lived in Calicut Market. The film will be shot in the month of September in Calicut.
T.A.Shahid had earlier scripted two family hits of Lal which helped in the comeback of Lal as a family hero.
The director Shaji Kailas has earlier associated with Mohanlal to create the biggest money spinners of his career like Aaram, Thampuran and Narasimham.

whats ur favourite scene of mohan lal in malayalam movies!

we can discuss abt it!

CHITRAM ! ( my favourite Laletan movie for his charming youth )

He moves out of the bungalow ( with his bag ) after being denied his urgently needed money by Nedumudi Venu.
By this time, Ranjani was so swayed by Mohanlal's true character gets so upset that she runs all the way to take him .

but MUCH TO HER DELIGHT, SHE SEES MOHANLAL COMING BACK INNOCENTLY .
She blows kisses on his cheeks with all the cheer of a school going kid !!
AND LOOK AT THE REACTION FROM LALETAN HERE WHEN NEDUMUDI TEASES HIM BY DOING KICHU KICHU

THATS OUR MOHANLAL FOR YOU

Another scene before this :

The so called villain threatens Mohanlal that he is going to expose him that Ranjani doesnt have a thali and which he complains to Poornam vishwanathan .
As both rush to meet Ranjani, Mohanlal reaches first and immediately ties a thali on her neck. Taking aback , she slaps him on his face but at this moment Poornam enters

AND SEES MOHANLAL , ON THE FLOOR WITH A CASUAL SMILE !

NILAVU ANNE, THIS IS JUST A BEGINNING .

Mohanlal makes a hatrick

IndiaGlitz [Thursday, May 18, 2006]

With the reigning success of 'Rasathantram', Mohanlal has created a hatrick of Megahits. Three films that came in Three different festival seasons have raked in tons to create boxoffice glory. This winning run started from the dismal situation that the superstar faced with the total washout of his two films, 'Udayon' and 'Chandrotsavam' last year. Nilavu,

Why do you take it so personally...I am a keralite but I've spent all my life in TN.I like Kamal's acting ,I admire Mohanlal's acting. Both are good but if it comes to a comparison,Mohanlal is a better actor! The only problem is that the kerala film industry is not so big like the TN film industry and therefore many people don't know many of the Malayalam actors...Even good ones like Mohanlal failed to get noticed which is why he is still stuck there. If he was a Tamil actor,I am sure that by now he would have got world recognition!!!

As usual Sundar C and his former assistant now turned director Suraj has ripped off the story from Priyadarshan’s 1992 Mohanlal gang war film set in Mumbai Abhimanyu. The film lacks a solid script to hold it together with far too many loses ends. K.S.Ravikumar who is given a stylish introductory scene later vanishes from the proceedings. Jyothirmayi is a total miscast as she cannot dance nor has the necessary oomph to go with the character she plays.

Happy B'day Mohanlal
IndiaGlitz [Saturday, May 20, 2006]

Considered a doyen in Malluwood, super star Mohanlal will be celebrating his 46th birthday on Sunday. An actor, who has been around for nearly two decades now, playing versatile roles not just for various awards but is an example for young artistes to emulate.

Having made his debut in Fazil'z Manjil Virinja Pookkal, Mohanlal's major break came in 1986 with the all-time hit Rajavinte Makan. The comic hero came into full blossom in typical Priyadarshan films like Chitram , Minnaram, Kilukkam. Throughout his career he has been through a lot of ups and downs but every time he came back with extra perseverance and won his way through people's hearts with wonderful performances in his films.

One striking aspect of Mohanlal as an actor is his versatility. He has shown flair for both sentimental and comedic roles, and has now appeared in over 274 films. Mohanlal established Pranavam Arts to be able to produce the kind of films he had an intense desire to create. His film Kaalapani won 5 National and 7 State Awards. Another splendid creation, 'Vaanaprastham', released in 1999 won the National Award for Best Film. Lal is still riding high. His recent success in movies like Thanmatra and Rasathantram has taken him to new heights With over half-a-dozen offers in his kitty, Lal is still the darling of the movie-buffs.

Mohanlal is a `fantastic actor'

"One of the greatest actors in the country," that's how Big B describes Mohanlal, who has been cast in the new `Sholay' with him. "He is extremely natural, a fantastic actor. Not many actors have that quality. He does it with so much ease. There's no arching of the eyebrows or making your eyes red, screaming or shouting. But he will convey that same trauma and intensity in a very natural manner which is a unique quality. I have never seen it in any other actor." Great praise from a glamorous veteran indeed.

Vadakkumnathan - Review

Director - Shajoon Karial
Producer - Baba Creations
Music - Raveendran
Cast - Mohanlal, Murali, Padmapriya, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Kavya

Vadakkumnathan is a gutsy and gritty endeavour from debutant scriptwriter and lyrist Girish Puthencherry and director Shajoon Kariyal. It is Mohanlal’s third film this year where he tries to cater to the taste of the family audience by making a sensible film.
In the age of shallow and fraudulent mass masala and larger-than-life heroes, Mohanlal had the guts to be a part of an aesthetically well-made film, with outstanding music that haunts you even after you leave the hall. Hats off to late Raveendran who has given some great songs plus the lead actors who have given life-like performances.

The film opens with a mother and son (Kaviyoor Ponnamma and Biju Menon) coming to Hardwar to perform last rites of her elder son who had run away from home and is believed to have died. But the mother sees her long lost son on the banks of River Ganga and takes him back to the family. He is Bharath Pisharody (Mohanlal) a brilliant Sanskrit professor who is respected and loved by everyone including his cousin and lover Meera (Padmapriya). But on his day of marriage he runs away leaving behind a heart-broken Meera and her father (Murali).

Now Pisharody is different man and his family and friends believes that he is on drugs. But actually, the man is mentally disturbed as he suffers from deep depression. Soon his brother discover papers relating to his treatment for mental illness from his locked suitcase. Now everyone starts seeing him in a different way, which leads to the final twist. How Meera helps him come out of this difficult situation in life forms the rest of the gripping tale.

A thoroughly life-like performance from Mohanlal lifts the film to great heights. As the brilliant professor Bharath Pisharody, his body language, mannerisms, innocent and shy smile during the romantic interludes and his blank look at times of mental imbalance are a delight to watch. Padmapriya as his devoted lover has an author-backed role and she comes up with an insightful performance that captures the nuances of the character and proves that she is an actress of substance.

Kavya Madhavan as Pisharody’s sister is good while everyone in supporting cast like Murali, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Babu Namboothiri and others gives their best. The camera of S.Kumar and song picturisation is eye catching. Malayalam cinema will definitely miss late music director Raveendran whose melodies like “ Oru Kili Pattu Moolave…”, “Kalabham…” and “Gange…” makes the film a musical odyssey.

On the down side, the film is a bit too long and editor Hariharaputran could have made it a bit more crisp. Though the basic theme seems to be inspired from Ron Howard’s A Beautiful Mind, Girish Puthencherry who has written the story, screenplay and lyrics need to be congratulated along with director Shajoon Kariyal for Indianising it and coming out with a clean family film.

Vadakkumnathan is superior cinema that deserves to be encouraged.

Verdict: Good

Movie Review

Vadakkumnathan - Mind matters

IndiaGlitz [Monday, May 22, 2006]

Anyone who has had something, or even anything, to do with Malayalam films, has cribbed about realism and empathy have gone out of modern-day movies. Every film is seen as an offering at the altar mass commercialism.

But occasionally, there come movies which seek to disabuse us of our bitterness. Recently we had Thanmathra that sought to get into the heart of a man coming to grips with Alzheimer's.

And the much-delayed Vadakkumnathan seems a worthy successor to Thamathra. If it was Alzheimer's in Blessy's sensitively crafted movie, then Vadakkumnathan deals with innder demons and depressions of a highly-skilled Sanskrit scholar. Backed by some liliting music, Vadakkumnathan at once tugs at your heart strings as well as soothes your jangled nerves. The pace maybe slow, but it is pregnant with poignant pauses. Full marks to director Shajoon Kariyal for making a film with conviction and clarity. There is no effort to shortchange the audience with ersatz entertainer.

The story is simple and realistic and that is the secret of its alluring appeal. It deals with gremlins (in the mind) of Bharath Pisharaody, a skilled Sanskrit professor (in that, it has shades of the Hollywood classic Beautiful Mind). The amiable man vanishes on the day of his marriage to his cousin and love Meera (Padmapriya). Nobody knows why. The family thinks he is gone for ever.

In fact, the film itself opens with Bharath's mother and brother (Kaviyoor Ponnamma and Biju Menon) getting to Haridwar to perform some religious rites for Bharath, who is given up as dead. The mother luckily spots Bharath on the banks of the holy Ganges. But Bharath is not normal. The relatives think he is on a hallucination trip. But soon they come to know of his mental distress, a case of extreme depression. He has to be brought to normal. How Meera and others do that in the dignified denouement.

There is no larger-than life stunts, songs and dialogues. Everything carries a matter-of-fact attractiveness. Mohanlal as the troubled professor is singularly top rate. His face throws up myriad expressions. It is an amazing portrayal of mentally disturbed man. An award may just be on its way. Padmapriya is a thinking actress. She can be glamorous. She can also shine in performance-based roles. This one is. And she is a sheer delight to watch. Her mature understanding of the character and then its easy portrayal is one of the highlights of the movie. Spunk and substance form the core of this actress. Biju Menon, Kavya Madhavan, Murlai all play their characters with nuanced understanding.

The music of Ravindran is another major plus. The songs give the movie a gossammer lightness. S Kumar's camera is also vital to the film's feel. He matches Ravindran's virtuosity.

Shajoon Karial has given a serious film with all the right touches. He has eschewed the urge to go commercial. You can crib on the length and speed of the movie. But that is insignificant considering intrinsic essence of the movie.

Vadakkumnathan deserves a watch by all those who love and value cinema, especially good cinema.

[tscii:b7cb18d3c6]Mohanlal- Family hero!

By Moviebuzz | Tuesday, 23 May , 2006, 16:09

Mohanlal’s Vadakkumnathan has taken a good opening all over Kerala. The family and lady audience simply love the madcap professor Pisharody.
Everyone in the trade had written off Vadakkumnathan before release and had said that the film is too arty with no commercial elements and will go against Mohanlal’s image.

Anyway, now it’s a different story as the very same people are praising the film to the skies as collections are good. Suddenly Mohanlal has emerged as the darling of Kerala’s “born again” family audience who thronged the theatres this summer.

Mohanlal has wooed and won over the family audiences in 2006 with films like Thanmatra and Rasathantram and now Vadakkumnathan. Sathyan’s Rasathantram has already grossed nearly Rs 10 Crore from releasing stations, a new box-office record.

CNN-IBN the prestigious English Channel had carried a 30-minute programme “Being Mohanlal” last Friday on prime time in which the actor was referred to as “the pan-Indian hero who has a phenomenal reach among Malayalee family audience”. It was Mohanlal best-ever interview in English.

I think the arrival of Mamooty and Laletan changed the old scenario dominated by Prem nazir, Madhu , Soman, Balan K Nayar etc.
these 2 guys have given new dimension to malayalam movies.

Infact, a series of thriller movies from Mamooty in the 80s totally changed the scenario there & then laletan took centre stage in the mid 80s. His association with Priyadharshan was always nice

Bharatbala to roll out Indo-Japanese martial arts film

Indo-Asian News Service

Cannes, May 20, 2006

http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/181_1702219,0011.htm

Chennai-based filmmaker Bharatbala is all set to kick off an Indo-Japanese co-production, depicting a Japanese samurai's search for enlightenment which finally brings him to India.

Tentatively titled The 19th Step, the film is to be shot in Japan and the southern Indian state of Kerala.

It will showcase the famed martial arts form of Kerala, Kalaripayuttu, for the first time ever in a mainstream production.

In Bharatbala's words, "It has the makings of the first truly breakthrough film from India."

A big Japanese showbiz company has agreed to provide 65 percent of the film's budget. "In terms of canvas and scale, this will be much bigger than my first films," says Bharatbala, who is in Cannes to market his previous film, Hari Om. Though not a co-production, it has used French acting talent to great effect.

In The 19th Step, talks are currently on with three Japanese actors for the lead role of the samurai warrior.

Representatives of the Japanese co-production partner are expected to make a trip to India to see how the script can be tweaked in a way that will make the film viable in Japan.

"Japan is a big market, second only to the US," the filmmaker told IANS.

"If an India-themed film clicks there, it will represent a huge breakthrough for us." The script of the film has been written by Malayalam litterateur MT Vasudevan Nair, "whose knowledge of Japanese literature is phenomenal."

The co-production is set in the 19th century, a period when the samurais were wiped out by the imperial army.

In the aftermath of the bloodbath, one surviving samurai ends up killing a monk by mistake. Overcome with guilt, he retraces the journey of Bodhidharma (Buddhism) and travels to Kerala to learn Kalaripayuttu.

The role of the Kalaripayuttu guru is to be played by Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. The 19th Step is expected to roll by the end of 2006.

Though the film is being designed to appeal to a global audience, like Chinese martial art fantasies such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero and The House of Flying Daggers, Bharatbala points out that it will have no special effects.

"All the action will be real," he says. "Even as the film will entertain through a mix of action, spirituality and romance, it will be rooted in the ethos of its setting."

That sure seems like a step in the right direction.

wow :o

The 19th Step

I liked Mr. Brahmachari, that was a pretty good movie.

I also liked Devasuram, then concluded by Ravanaprabhu; Nepoleon played a good villain, and especially in ravanaprabhu, the getup was perfect.

Vadakkumnathan means Lord Shiva. Vadakkum means North that is Kailasa (Northern part of India).Nathan means God. The Family of Mohanlal see Mohanlal when they go for a pilgrimage at Kailasa.

Now U got why they put the name. When they show Vadakkumnathan title in the film, they show Kailasa as background.

Vadakkumnathan is Mohanlal’s third consecutive hit in this series. The series began with ‘Thanmatra’. His Vishu release ‘Rasatantram’ had become a huge hit with the family crowds. Surprisingly, the third film, ‘Vadakkumnathan’ too is very popular in this segment.

After winning critical acclaim for Thanmatra and Rasatantram in which Mohanlal played real life charaters, Mohanlal has now set his eyes on performing acrobatic action packed roles.

He would feature in a machoman's role in director Shaji Kailash's movie titled Ali Bhai. Meanwhile his Keerthi Chakra also features him action role. A couple in the pipeline are also action movies. Let's hope Mohanlal succeeds in his new avatar.

BigB again on Lalettan[rediff]

Amitabh in Munnar
'I am ready to act in Malayalam films'
Amitabh, who underwent surgery last year, shows no signs of illness. And he just can't stop gushing about Munnar. "Where can you get this wintery cool and rains during May? I love this climate," he says.

Would he ever do a Malayalam film?

"Of course. I am ready to act in Malayalam films. I love films made from Kerala," the Big B says.

But can Malayalam filmmakers afford the megastar? "That is a pre-conceived notion," says the man himself. "Money is not the measure for making good films."

Bachchan is all praise for Kerala's beauty, and its people: "They are the most wonderful people. Very educated and well-behaved," he says.

Whom does he admire in the Malayalam film industry? "Mohanlal. He is a superb actor."

"In fact, Mohanlal is acting with me in Ram Gopal Varma's next film," Bachchan adds.

"Nishabd is my second film with Ram Gopal Varma. The great thing about Ram is that he has the capacity to assimilate things into his films," he says.

Is Nishabd new territory for Varma, the master of guns and gore? "Yes, Nishabd is a departure from the gangster and underworld theme. It is bold and different," says Amitabh.

[tscii:bc7b7125bb]Mohanlal- Family hero!

MOHANLAL BAGS BLESSY'S NEXT!!!

Blessy’s next film will star Mohanlal in it. Although almost all the projects of Mohanlal for the coming two years is finalized, it is obvious that Blessy’s film will get top billing and an unfortunate film maker will be sidelined.

It seems after working with Mohanlal, Blessy couldn’t think of another actor in place of Mohanlal for his next venture. Both have already discussed and settled on a storyline and now Blessy will start writing the screenplay and he usually takes three or more months to write one. Producer Lal will play the villian in this film. Mohanlal and Lal has acted before in 'Kanmadam'. The film is also distributed by Lal. Raagam Movies will produce the film.

First it was rumored that Dileep will star in his film and that Dileep is pressurizing Blessy to cast him in the film, and that he has given open dates to Blessy. But Blessy brushed off this rumor then by saying that, forget casting; he hasn’t even zeroed in on a story and he cast an actor according to the story. When Blessy decided on the story, he thought of casting Suresh Gopi for the film but retrace his decision and decided Mohanlal it will be!

Blessy says that this film will not be on the lines of ‘Kazcha’ and ‘Thanmathra’ but an investigation film with a difference. It will be shot extensively in Kolkata.

MOHANLAL'S PHOTOGRAPHER!!!

All what Ranjan Pramod wanted to be was a director; being a writer was just a stepping stone. It was his dream to direct Mohanlal and it is going to be realized through ‘Photographer’.

Except for his first, ‘Randambaavam’, all his movies were huge success. His ‘Meeshamadhavan’ and ‘Naran’ created new box office records. ‘Manasinakkare’ and ‘Achuvinte Amma’ proved that he was talented screen writer. For a writer of his reputation, the quest to become a director was not an easy one; he has been trying to be one for the past one and a half years. Earlier he planned a project with Mohanlal titled ‘Thappana’ but somehow it didn’t work out (Later it became Joshi's NARAN). So now they are doing ‘Photographer’.

‘Photographer’, as the name suggest is a story about a photographer Dijo John. Ranjan Pramod didn’t exactly reveal what the movie is all about but although the prime importance is for the story, it will also have some light moments. Insiders suggest that this movie will be on the lines of ‘Kilukkam’. Rest of the star cast is not finalized. It will be produced by Howly Potter. Johnson will do the music. Not so surprisingly, Azhakappan is the cinematographer.

Protagonist Dijo John has a website in the movie about photography www.smileplease.in so a website with the same address will start operating from June 1st onwards. It will have all the details about the movie.

LAL IS THE BEST!!!

"The major thing that inspires me in this film is that I am acting with Mohanlal. He is the best among the lot of actors of caliber in India. No other names in India can bring out more naturality and easiness than the way your Mohanlal acts out each and every characters", was the reaction of Amithabh Bachchan when he was asked about his role in the remake of Sholay. "I am doing the role of Gabbar Singh in the film which Amjad Khan had done in the original version. But I am extremely happy and is looking forward to act with Lal, who appear in the role which Sanjeev Kumar had done in the original".

Amitabh Bachchan was in Moonaar shooting for Ram Gopal Verma's project titled 'Nisshabdh'. The remake of Sholay, the biggest project announced in Bollywood, is realized by Ram Gopal Verma with one of the best casts Bollywood has ever seen. The film which is in its final stages of scripting will start rolling in a short while.

THE RIGHT RESOLVE!!!

When fingers were pointed at the Malayalam filmdom for having shed its originality and churning out movies inspired by Kollywood and Tollywood, director K P Kumaran has taken a resolve to bring back the right flavor in Malluwood.

He would be churning out a movie inspired from the renowned Norweigan writer Henrik Ibsen's drama named Master Builder.

Titled Aakasha Gopuram, the movie would star Mohanlal in the lead role.

Renowned Hindi film producer Taizoon F Khorakiwala is producing the film. Meera Jasmine, Shwetha Menon, Geethu Mohandas are tipped to play the female leads. The cast also includes Bharat Gopi, Nedumudi Venu.

Aakasha Gopuram which is scheduled for December release. Kumaran is taking efforts to ensure that the movie would participate in various international fests and fetch honor for Malayalam film industry.

Let's hope Mohanlal repeats the magic of Thanmathra in Aakasha Gopuram also

Romio and other Lal fans!!

The outline below is the film named GUN which Joshi was going to do with Lal instead of Naran!!The story idea belongs to Ranjan Pramod!!I think they should revive it and add who happened to be Joshi's,Lal's,Ranjan's common friend Renjith to script along with Ranjan.I liked the outline. Its a metro action thriller with more scope for thrills than action.I got it thru a reporter friend who is also a friend of Ranjan Pramod.

The theme of Gun is a police officer (It was Madhavan to do first) comes to a city in order to catch a thief (Mohanlal). While this thief gives clue an hour before the crime. Before the police can reach there, the thief will finish everything. Now the police fails in several attempts but once he succeeds to catch the thief. The thief offers to help police's real (personal) assignment in return for his freedom.

FLASH BACK-Both the thief's and police's fathers were killed in an inustrial accident. Its due to the industrial minister's corruption. Now the time has passed and the minister now became the chief minister.

Here the film takes off when the thief and police joins hand to take over the minister. But a fact lies the same....Both of them don't belive each other!!!

Hows the theme??

MOHANLAL'S PHOTOGRAPHER!!!

CONTD!!

After playing a carpenter in Rasathantram, Mohanlal is all set to don the role of a photographer for Renjan Pramod's new film titled Photographer.

The movie has been set against the backdrop of the struggle of the tribal people in Muthanga. The agitation, which was a turning point in state politics, has all elements that suit a commercial thriller. Mohanlal plays Dijo John entrusted with a special photography assignment among Adivasi settlements. The movie has musical score by Johnson with Azhagappan handling the camera.

With hits in Thanmatra, Rasathantram and Vadakkumnathan, Mohanlal is all charged up and is keen to keep the good run going. He is also playing a Major in Keerthi Chakra, a movie being directed by Major Ravi.

MOHANLAL'S PARDESHI!!!

Ace actor Mohanlal will play the lead role in "Pardeshi", a film which tells the tale of nearly 100 Pakistani passport holders living in Malappuram district of Kerala.

"The film will be directed by former legislator P.T. Kunhumohammed and also star leading actors like Srinivasan, Vijayaraghavan, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Kavya Madhavan and Shwetha Menon," said producer Antony Perumbavoor.

"Pardeshi" tells the story of these hapless citizens who are living in Malappuram under constant fear of being extradited to Pakistan.

"The film is based on real life experiences of these people living in Malappuram. We plan to shoot the movie in Kerala and also along the India-Pakistan border," Perumbavoor told IANS.

The 'muhurat' of the film was held Monday at the Kinfra Film and Video Park here where Mohanlal and Kunhumohammed among others were present.

The issue had gained prominence in 2004 when following a public outcry, the then Oommen Chandy government took it up with the central government and their deportation to Pakistan was stayed.

Most of these people, who are above 60 years, happened to be in other parts of the country on business and work and were branded as Pakistani citizens during partition because they were Muslims.

"Mohanlal plays the role of one such victim and the entire story revolves around this theme," Perumbavoor said.

[tscii:673571b831]MOHANLAL IN MOTHER THERESA!!!

A while ago, director Rajiv Nath made global headlines and global controversies when he announced that he was going to make a film about Mother Theresa with notorious socialite Paris Hilton in the lead role.

Now, the director is busy going about signing up some of the best-known faces in the Indian cine industry to star in the film.

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is going to play the role of an Army officer. Tamil superstar Kamalhasan is going to be a Christian priest in the film.

Former Bollywood star Mithun Chakraborthy is playing the role of the West Bengal Chief Minister Jyothi Basu. Santosh Shivan is the film’s cinematographer.

The film is going to be made in many languages. The director now awaits the word from Paris Hilton, the film’s heroine. Many have opposed the idea of her playing the title role. But it looks as if the director is not complaining, thanks to all the free publicity that it is bringing to the film!

MOHANLAL IN PARDESHI!!!

Mohanlal is a happy man. He has completed Mahasamudram which will be his Onam release. He is having a dream run at the Kerala box-office- Naran, Thanmatra, Rasathantram and now Vadakkumnathan. All of them were liked by fans, critics and family audience which is a rare happening.

Now Mohanlal is going to do a film which was originally written for Mammootty! He has given priority dates to writer-director P.T.Kunju Mohammed’s new off-beat film titled Paradesi for which shooting will start from June 19 in Ottapalam.

According to Mohanlal: “It is a very good script. I play Valiyakathu Moosa, a man who come from Karachi in Pakistan during partition and settles in Malappuram . But even after 50 years of Independence, Moosa does not get an Indian passport and is treated and referred to as a Pakistani!”

Kunju Mohammed plans to chronicle the life and times of Moosa from the 35 years to 80. Paradesi is indeed a challenging role for Mohanlal and there will be three heroines in the film. The cast will also include Sreenivasan and Vijayaraghavan in supporting roles.

HEAR THE STORYLINE OF THE DON.....

IT HAS STRIKING SIMILARIES WTH RUNWAY AND NARASIMHAM WITH THE BASIC PLOT OF ARYAN

Unnikrishnan is a villager who is accused for a murder he hasn't committed (Just Like Indhuchoodan of NARASIMHAM).He goes to jail. When he returns back, his family avoids him.He goes to the city in search of a living. There he happens to save a rich man from being killed. He become his ally and from then Unnikrishnan turns to Mustafa (Just like Unni Damodar turns to Valayar Paramashivam in RUNWAY), The Don.He comes back afer making money to seek revenge.

What U say abt that Sandeep???

Hope Dileep will understand Talent cannot be bought with money and influence.

By the way Mohanlal's movie selection has really improved, a very good mixture of comedy, emotional, musical, class and action.

But I am really worried about Ali Bhai. There is a good story but Shaji Kailas can make or break this movie. I read there are 100's of characters (reminds of I.V.Sasi) in the movie. While this movie will surely break all records I wish for a "Devasuram" rather than a "Narasimham".

I was very impressed with Lal's character in Company. A middle aged officer who uses his personality and positional authority to achieve his goal.

We always see that the hero has to ultimately rely on his physical strength to succeed. I remember "The King" movie where Mammoty goes on delivery "Kadicha Pottatha" dialogs about IAS and at the end he becomes nothing but a street fighter. Same with SureshGopi in some movie he becomes Chief Minister.

Well if these guys need to be street fighters to succeed then they should give up their moral authority, like Lal very well showed in the end of Adwaitham.

Bold themes, different roles
SARASWATHY NAGARAJAN

After a lull, Mohanlal is on the ascent again with a slew of films.

KICK-OFF: Mohanlal tossing the ball while I.M.Vijayan, extreme left, looks on during the shooting of `Mahasamudram.'

Dressed in the green and yellow colours of Brazil and dribbling a football, Mohanlal looks every inch the footballer. But then the ability to merge with his character has always been one of the many plus points of this multi-faceted actor.

Here in Thiruvananthapuram for the shoot of `Mahasamudram,' Mohanlal is also completing the dubbing for the bi-lingual (Malayalam and Tamil) `Keerti Chakra,' in which he plays a major (Javed Hussain) posted in Kashmir. After a slump that saw some of his films crash at the box office, Mohanlal is on the ascent again. He has signed a slew of films and each one promises to reveal a new facet of the actor. If he plays a photographer Sijo John in Renjan Pramod's debut film `Photographer,' he plays an 85-year-old in P.T. Kunjumohamed's `Pardesi,' and the lead in K.P. Kumaran's `Akashagopuram,' which is an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's play `Master Builder.'

`Tanmathra' and a State award for the best actor, his fifth, seems to have revived the actor in him. The success of `Rasanthantram' and `Vadakumnadhan' proves that Mohanlal is back in business.
That he is adept at multi-tasking becomes clear as he settles down for an interview while the shooting is in progress. After each shot, Mohanlal effortlessly picks up from where he had left to speak on his new films, heroines and directors.

Will the World Cup beginning today find you before the television?

I used to play football in school and college and I used to follow the game as a student. But now there isn't time enough time to watch a match. But I certainly enjoy the game.

Does the down-to-earth role of the carpenter Premachandran Asari in `Rasanthantram' signify that Mohanlal has bid adieu to the super-hero roles?

It is not as if I was doing only the role of the superhero. There were others too and they were all made by top directors. It was unfortunate that those films did not do well commercially. But the success of a film should not be judged by the commercial success or failure of a film alone. Moreover, every role has an element of make-belief in it.

What then was the problem?

The main lacuna was weak scripts. I see that period as a cleansing period in the film industry. Now there are more daring themes and topics being taken up. `Keerti Chakra' is an example. I play a major in the Indian army. It was an experience that enhanced my respect for the Indian soldier. Even while we were there, there were nine blasts. No one knows what will happen next.

So, are you deliberately choosing roles that are very different?

There is no planning. The roles keep coming. As far as roles are concerned, actors are beggars; they cannot afford to choose. It is not as if I ever planned on doing the movie version of Ibsen's play. Now, directors are willing to experiment and are coming up with new themes. For instance, `Pardesi' is about the trauma of a man who is caught between two countries, both of which refuse to accept him as its citizen. It is a universal theme and a bold venture and even the cinematic approach will be an innovation as the director plans to change the structure of narration and so on. `Photographer' is set against the backdrop of the Adivasi agitation at Muthanga. In `Mahasamudran' I am Ishak, a fisherman.

Is there any preparation for doing these roles?

No. I do not believe in method acting or planning each move and dialogue. I enact the character and give it my best and hope that it does justice to the role. The situation and the storyline guide me. Perhaps, I am a director's actor.

Your movies with Priyadarshan are a hit. Is it because of the warm vibes you share with him? Both of you made your debut in movies at the same time with `Thiranottam.' ?

I have an excellent rapport with all my directors and co-stars. But yes, Priyan and I have made a number of hits. Most of them have been remade in Hindi. `Garam Masala,' for instance, is a remake of `Boeing Boeing.' But now, we do not have any projects together. Perhaps in two years time, we might work together again.

You have acted with some of the best actors in Malayalam. As many of them have graduated to playing the role of the `mother,' is there a dearth of heroines in the Malayalam film industry?

For instance, Revathy was your first heroine.
(Laughs) Revathy was a schoolgirl when we did our first film together (`Katathekillikoodu') 24 years ago. But look at the kind of roles she got. She was able to tap her potential as an actor to the fullest. Sadly, those kind of roles are fewer now. However, it is true that the life span of female actors is short. Earlier, actors like Sheela, Sharada and Jayabharati did play college girls and a wide range of roles for some time. But now, the audience are not willing to accept that. But we have capable heroines like Meera Jasmine who can carry a film on her own. Prior to that there was Manju Warrier. I don't think there will be a dearth of heroines.

Amitabh Bachchan remarked that you are a `fantastic actor' and that it is a pity that you are confined to the South.?

He is one of the greatest stars in India and someone all of us look up to. Naturally, his praise is something to cherish. As for working in Bollywood, well, I am very comfortable in Malayalam and Tamil. But if there are roles that I feel I can do justice to, then I shall certainly accept films in Hindi. Ram Gopal Varma's `Company' was one such movie.

(He won an IIFA award for the best supporting actor for `Company').

You are acting with Bachchan in Ram Gopal Varma's `Sholay.'
It is in the pipeline. It is a project I am looking forward to.

No plans of directing a film yourself?

No. I will have to stop acting then. It requires tremendous concentration and a completely different set of skills. One has to learn the grammar of filmmaking.

Five State awards, four national awards, Padma Shri... What next?

I live in the present. I believe in taking each day as it comes.

[tscii:bdbbaa5c38]Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is particularly obsessed with striking a perfect balance between art and commercialism. His new film with Shaji Kailash is going to have him in a larger-than-life role.

Just to balance the effect, he also has accepted two ‘parallel’ film offers too. ‘Aakashagopuram’ is one of the films, directed by KP Kumar. This is an art film with the budget of a commercial film. This one will most likely be Mohanlal’s Christmas release this year.

PD Kunhumohammed is the director of his next art film. ‘Pardesi’ is the name of the film and it tells us the story of a man who had emigrated from Pakistan to Kerala about fifty years ago. Mohammed was planning to bring Mammooty in to play the role but the director changed his mind and settled for Mohanlal instead. Mohammed had previously directed two films. Both had Murali in the lead roles.

The director, who also insists on writing story and screenplay by himself, has started working on his new film. Meera Jasmine is likely to be the heroine of this one too. MOHANLAL'S MAHASAMUDHRAM!!!

This week, Thiruvananthapuram already famous for footballers, witnessed an unique match in the University stadium. The crowd who gathered to see the match was very well surprised to see their Superstar Mohanlal and Co. poised against a team lead by I.M.Vijayan, the famous footballer of India.

The gathered crowd a little after identified the match as a preplanned shooting sequence. Mohanlal and the team mates were shooting for the climax sequences of their latest flick 'Mahasamudram' directed by Dr.S.Janardhanan.

The match went for an hour with the real spirit of the game where both the teams scored a goal.

Four cameras, one on a crane and another a steady cam followed the proceedings on the ground. After a break, the second half of the game concluded with the superstar scoring a goal on the extra time.

The film which is planned as a Onam release will hit the theatres shortly after the Football World Cup.

The director feels that the Football Mania that is gripping the nation now, will also become a factor that will help in the success of the film, which also boasts of big stars.

MOHANLAL AND ART FILMS!!!

Mohanlal will act in two art films this year. The first one will be in K P Kumaran's Aakashagopuram and the second (as we had written yesterday) P T Kunjumohammed's Paradeshi.

Aakashagopuram will be based on the famous play, 'The Master Builder' by the Norwegian writer Henrick Ibson and will be a big budget film and most probably this would be Lal's Christmas release.

The shooting of Paradeshi where Mohanlal enacts the role of a Pakistani citizen in Malappuram will begin on June 17.

Kunjumohammed earlier films were Magrib and Gershom which had Murali in both films. The film will be produced by A & A Productions.

In Kerala movies, there are Mammotty and Mohanlal. The rest come a long after.

The two have dominated the industry like two big Banyan trees.

The two have been on screen rivals but very mature and understanding off it.

The race between the two has been very interesting of late.

Both the stars have been on a hot streak in recent times.

Mohanlal’s movies have matched the tremendous run of the Mammooty’s, who has been phenomenal in the last twelve months are so.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal is set to play a role that was originally conceived for Mammooty.

No, this is not poaching.

Mohanlal has landed the lead role in the film Paradesi directed by P T Kunju Mohammed.

Mohanlal is thrilled at playing the character that he has given bulk dates for the movie.

His role of Valiyakathu Moosa, a Mallapuram resident hailing from Pakistan, is a very challenging one.

With Sreenivasan and Vijayaraghavan in supporting roles, the movie will be another big one of the season.

MOHANLAL FILMS ON TOP!!!

A couple of minor releases in the last fortnight - "Nottam" and "Kisan" - appear on the top five Malayalam list. Otherwise it was an uneventful period with "Vadakkumnathan" maintaining its lead.

The top five are:

1. "Vadakkumnathan" - It seems Mohanlal's box-office fortunes have revived. His performance has earned all-round appreciation and music by the late Raveendran has helped the film as well.

2. "Rasathantram" - This is again a Mohanlal film with his pairing with Meera Jasmine as the high point. Directed by Sathyan Anthikkad, the film is still drawing sizeable crowds.

3. "Balram Vs Tharadas" - Mammootty in a double role depicting two characters from two of his earlier films, one a hero and the other a villain, has given the film a marathon run.

4. "Nottam" - This offbeat film, directed by Sasi Paravoor, starring Nedumudi Venu, provides glimpses of the ancient art form of Koodiyattam and has won plaudits from sections of the audience.

5. "Kisan" - Directed by veteran Sibi Malayil, it stars Biju Menon and Kalabhavan Mani. The film was lying in the cans for quite some time and was released last weekend. It is still too early to say how far it will go.

Produced under the banner of Baba Creations, the Shajoon Kariyal-directed Vadakkumnathan is a film that is thoroughly likeable and gives us a taste of the films of the good old days of the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.

Vadakkumnathan begins with a mother and son (Kaviyoor Ponnamma and Biju Menon) make a trip to the banks of Ganga to perform the last rites of her elder son Bharatha Pisharody. But there they come face to face with Bharatha Pisharody, who was supposedly dead. Iringannoor Bharatha Pisharody (Mohanlal) is a Sanskrit scholar and a professor at the Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sanskrit University. Awards and acclamations come seeking him. And he is in love with his uncle’s daughter Meera (Padmapriya). He could very well be called a very successful man, but on the eve of his marriage with Meera, he disappears, leaving behind a letter that he is going to Rishikesh. And later the news reaches his family that he is no more. It is later that he is found on the banks of Ganga by his mother and brother. The mystery surrounding his disappearance and what follows following his return home forms the plot of the film.

Mohanlal does full justice to the role of Bharatha Pisharody while Padmapriya fits into the role of Meera in all respects. The others in the cast including Biju Menon, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Murali, Babu Namboothiri, Kavya Madhavan and Vineeth do their respective roles in their respective styles. The main attraction of the film comprises of the songs, all of them outstanding ones, penned by Gireesh Puthencherry and set to tune by the late Raveendran. The songs ‘Gage ...’, ‘Kalabham tharaam ...’, ‘Oru kili paattu moolave ...’ are all brilliantly composed, rendered and visualised in an equally enchanting manner. The cinematography by S Kumar is also a highlight of the film. Anyhow, the ones who deserve most mention are the scenarist Gireesh Puthencherry and the director Shajoon Kariyal, who have handled a very touching story in a very sensitive manner. Johny Sagarika Film Company, which has released the film, also has good reasons to be happy since the film is doing good business at all centres.

Ajith's romantic thriller with Bhavana in lead? June 14, 2006
http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movie-news/june-06-02/14-06-06-ajith.html

We had reported earlier that Ajith would be working for Suresh Balaji of Sujatha Cine Arts on their forthcoming venture. Reports now say that Suresh will be in charge of the entire production, and papa Balaji is only too happy about it. Talks of roping in actress Bhavana are on, while the buzz is that Mohanlal might do a cameo role in the film as well. The actor who is a stickler for perfection, usually accepts roles that have a good character and of course, a good financial package as well!

Touted to be a romantic thriller, it is said that the songs will be shot in refreshing locations abroad, with Selva, the man who worked with Ajith in Amaravathi, will wield the megaphone.

Your version may be true because I have a colleague whose surname is Musa. Ok ? His full name is MUSA ISHAQ KESARI , basically from Gujarat but his ancestors are from Pak. He still has relatives in Pak now. His ancestors migrated to Gujarat during partition.

But I tell you , the old man make up is superb ! This is what I mean by realism & living like that character & one has to learn a lot from Kerala movies !

Aran Songs Are Superb :D :D :D

Music Review

Aran - Good melodies
IndiaGlitz [Friday, June 30, 2006]
Joshua Sridhar, the man who shot to fame with his catchy melodies in Kadhal, is back with Aran, a movie starring big stars like Mohanlal, Gopika, Jeeva among others.

Produced by R B Choudhary, this bi-lingual (in Malayalmm and Tamil), has the right mix of soft and peppy numbers, quite typical of Joshua.

The album has five numbers, which are certainly attractive.

Joshua deserves a pat for coming up with soft melodious numbers, which have become a rarity these days. A Kashmiri song rendered by Manicka Vinayakam is another highlight of the movie.

Mugilae (Srinivas)

A lilting melody. A romantic song with Sreenivas at his best. The song focuses on a youth serving the army in the border. He sings in the memory of his lover. Joshua has used soft instruments but has succeeded in giving a western touch to the song. Srinivas shows why he is one of the best in the business.

Pooncholai (Karthick, Asha Menon)

Again a soft number. Both Karthik and Asha Menon begin on a slow note and the song slowly gains momentum. Joshua has used flutes effectively. The slow beats accompanying the song all through is also very catchy. One for the melody lovers

Thottal Poo (Anushka)

A peppy number with foot-tapping beats. It is supposedly an item-number in the movie. Unfortunately the song has instruments overtaking the lyrics at many places. Anushka's energy level is high. However had Joshua had gone slow on the orchestration, the song could have been more interesting to listen.

Kashmiri song (Manicka Vinayakam)

Manicka Vinayakam with his strong voice is a right choice to sing such numbers. Though inspired by Kashmiri folk numbers, this song is soft and melodious. The lyrics are very catchy for it is a Kashmiri youth singing for peace in his land. Manickam gives all that he has.

Bit song (Srinivas)

A small piece which resembles Thamizha Thamizha in Roja. It is all about the triumph of victory over evil. Srinivas is in his elements in this.

All told, it makes for interesting hearing.

http://www.raaga.com/channels/malayalam/movie/M0000961.html

Mohanlal plays Ali Bhai, a coolie at the famous Palayam market in Kozhikode. He is a tough as nail, no nonsense, fearless champion of the working class. According to Shaheed:" Ali has not read Das kapital or the communist manifesto but understands the mind and needs of the poor and downtrodden for whom he is a hero".
The buzz in the industry is that the film is a modern version of I.V Sasi's mega hit Jayan film Angadi(1980), based on coolie workers in Palayam market. But Antony denies it and says:"It is an out and out action movie with lots of sentiments, to showcase Lal Sir's mass hero image and will be a treat for his fans".

Mohanlal will be wearing a Lungi and a half sleeve baniyan throught the film. And the surprise element is that Mohanlal alias Ali Bhai will be speaking in Malabar Moplah dialect spoken by Kozhikode Muslims. The heroine will be a Bollywood girl, nearly all major supporting actors will be there in this big budget action movie with a huge canvass, that will start rolling

Keerthi Chakra late by a week
IndiaGlitz [Thursday, July 13, 2006]

The much awaited Mohanlal starrer 'Keerthi Chakra' will not be coming up this week. As the distributors, Ambili films, is planning for a big release with fifty plus prints, the film will grace the theatres only by the twenty first of this month.

Mohanlal, afer a long time is playing a commando, this time in border security force. The film which boasts of a recreation of a real story is shot in the original locales of Kashmir with the support of BSF and other forces.

Directed by Major Ravi, the film also offers a big cast and good songs by Joshua Sreedhar (of Kaadhal fame ).

The posters and hoardings which depict lal in an different outfits has also generated greater interest to the film. As Lal in recent times had delivered a hatrick of superhits, the fans are in all expectations to receive another hit.

I feel even if a movie runs for 50 days in Kerala , it should be rated a success considering the population size there when compared to a state say like TN or Karnataka or AP .

Rasathantram biggest box office hit in the history of Malayalam cinema.

Mohanlal’s Rasathantram which celebrated its 100th day on July 15 has become the biggest box office hit in the history of Malayalam cinema.
Moviebuzz puts together a behind –the-scene story on how the film was conceived, marketed and rode on Mohanlal’s family image.

The credit for bringing Mohanlal and Sathyan Anthikkad together goes to Antony Perumbavoor,
who produced Rasathantram. It was Antony who succeeded in what directors like Priyadarshan, Producer ‘Swargachitra’Appachan, writer-actor Sreenivasan all failed.
Today Antony says: “Njan aarum alla, Athu Deivanishchayam (I am nobody, it’s all God’s will).

Mohanlal and Sathyan has done nearly 27 films during 80’s and early 90’s. Their last film was in 1994 after which they split. If you ask Mohanlal why they split he will tell you- “Chumma (simply) and Sathyan’s answer is “Onnum Illa” (Nothing really!). For 12 years they went their separate ways before they came together with another blockbuster Rasathantram.

Rasathantram has beaten all existing records in 27 stations and has become the highest grosser in Kerala. This film is expected to gross an awesome Rs 21 Crore from theatricals worldwide which means a distributors share (after deduction of entertainment tax, theatre rentals, show tax etc) will be between Rs 10 to 11 Crore. Remember that the film was made for Rs 2.87 Crore including print and publicity!

Sathyan had written a script for the first time in his life as all his earlier films had script by Sreenivasan or Lohithadas. Says Sathyan: “I am learning something new everyday. What makes me tick is the fact that I am willing to learn new things even after being in the industry for 24 years”. He shrugs his shoulders and says: “I am glad that the film is a blockbuster”.

What worked for the film was the chemistry between Sathyan and Mohanlal. Sathyan has given a rebirth to Mohanlal as he could get back the family audience which he had lost when he did larger-than-life roles. Adds Sathyan: “Mohanlal is the quintessential common man for Malayalees worldwide. Says Antony who also convinced Meera Jasmine to act opposite Mohanlal (she was avoiding the superstars): “Ladies loved the chemistry between Mohanlal and Meera especially the Attinkara… song”.

Added Antony: “Innocent chettan’s comedy with Meera, Mammookoya and Lal sir was another highlight of the film. Gopi sir was apt as the father and the chemistry between the father and son was etched out beautifully by Sathyan sir. Some of the beautiful locations of Kerala were picturised well by cameraman Azhagappan”.

The aggressive marketing of the film by Alex George of Central pictures the oldest distribution concern in Kerala also went a long way in making the film a hit. George released the film in 50 centres and was also able to create an aura around the film as a family entertainer. Rasathantram’s historic run at the box-office has assured that Mohanlal is once again crowned as the Emperor of Malayalam cinema.

FRIENDS DONT MISS ARAN(KEERTHICHAKRA) FANTASTIC MOVIE HERE IS SOME FIRST DAY REPORTS -

Kirtichakra First day report

" Ningal urangooo, njangal urangathe Kaavalundu.." the message from major Mahadevan strucks the hearts of every indian. Mohanlal once again proved that any role is secure in his hands through his 100% action film Kitichakra directed by Major Ravi.

The film completely overbeats any other action movies in hollywood or bollywood. And it has become a pride of malayalees too. This is first time in malayalam a complete millittary film is releasing.

The first show ( Trivandrum ajanta) started at 9 o' clock. The crowd became un controllable by 7 o' clock. The atmosphere was full of flowers, color papers and sweets. The road wasblocked for a long time.
The introduction of Mohanlal is only after 15 minutes. The introduction of mohanlal was through a commando operation. Lal is moving like storm in every action scenes.

The important thing about Mohanlal is, he speaks 40% malayalam, 40% english and 20% hindi. His English accent is marvellous. There are few sentimence scenes also. Seeing this film every indian will realise, How much our soldiers are doing for us.

Every muslim must see this film. The film proves all muslims are indians and the terrorists are trying to make their mind changed. I am sure this film will surely increase patriotism in the minds of indians.

Major Ravi also came to the Theater after the first show. The crowd took him up on their shoulders and celeberated the victory. The film is a great success and it is sure it will go beyond 150 days.Mohanlal is making victories one after the other.Fans celeberated this as a festival.

The film has the power to change the minds of every indians against Terrorism.

So definitely Kirtichakra is a " Terror against Terrorism".

KC ROCKS

KEERTHI CHAKRA ROCKS.....!!!!!

Hello everybody...
one of the first lucky fans to se the movie at 9.30 am.
show started at calicut apsara by that time.
i was sad as i didnt get balcony ticket.
still i managed to get a first class one.

the start of the movie has been shot in a spectacular way.
a real tribute to our brave soldiers.
a closeup view on a pillar on which its written,

" i have served my nation
i have kept my faith
i have done my duty "

on the memory of our martyr jawans really inspires the mind.

The introduction of our hero was another instance.
the huge applause confirms that it was one of the best introduction,
Lalever had in a movie...

The movie is trilingual....
equal importance is given for hindi n tamil....
malayalam subtitles have been provided for hindi dialogues...

unlike other mallu military movies, in which the entire army
is filled with mallus(remember sainyam and nairsaab),
KC stays apart...

special mention has to be given to the action scenes especially
two military attacks....
Major Ravi has done a wonderful job definitely....

Lalettaa... we needed this frm u much before itself.....

truely, this is his fifth consecutive hit after
naran,thanmathra,rasathanthram and vadakkumnaathan...

one of his career best performance, at a situation where our
opponents were questioning his existance....

Jeeva and shammi thilakan also did a wonderful job.....

guest roles include lakshmi gopalaswamy and biju menon....

keerthichakra is gonna rule the cinemas in kerala...
no doubt that this movie will become a matter worth discussion all
over....

post ur reviews and give ur marks for the movie....

i rate it as 8/10........

So Padam koluthiyennanu thonnunnathu.. Ini ulla chanalleil okke keri
nannayi publicity koduthal mathi.. Movie will be a Gigantic hit..

[tscii:dcb63fc627]Bumper opening!

By Moviebuzz | Saturday, 05 August , 2006, 13:06

Mohanlal’s Keerthichakra has surprised the trade by taking a bumper opening all over Kerala. There were a lot of negative reports about its director Major Ravi before release, but now Ravi has made his critics eat crow!
At Thiruvananthapuram, Ajantha, the first two days at five shows per day it has taken 100 percent opening and grossed Rs 2.87 Lakhs. The buzz around the film is positive and people feel that Major Mahadevan, the character played by Mohanlal is the answer to the Kashmir problems!

In Malabar area of Kerala at Kozhikode, Apsara theatre people gave a standing ovation in the climax scene especially when Mohanlal speaks about Kashmir Muslims love for India and blames foreign mercenaries for creating all the tensions in the valley.

Producer R.B.Chowdary who had a big release with 46 prints will make more money on Keerthichakra than its Tamil version Aran, which has taken a poor opening in Tamilnadu.

'Keerthichakra' wins in style!- 07.08.2006

'Keerthichakra' was released last weekend in Kerala and has received a stunning welcome at the box office.

Over the weekend, most of the theatres where the film was released had a hundred percent collections. For a while, Mohanlal was concentrating on playing realistic roles. This time around, he has succeeded in balancing 'realistic performance' with convincing 'heroism' without exaggerating anything.

Mohanlal's performance as Major Mahadevan was received very well by the audience. The film's success at the box office had come as a big relief for its director Major Ravi. Unfortunately, the film's Tamil version, 'Aran', nosedived at the box office.

Mohanlal now eagerly awaits his Onam release, 'Mahasamudhram' next month.

Mohanlal is unbeatable

The year 2006 has been an extraordinary year for Mohanlal. All three of his releases -- Thanmatra, Rasathantram and Vadakkumnathan -- have been huge successes.

They have also been been artfully made, and appreciated.

His latest release Keerthichakra, directed by Major Ravi, where he plays Major Mahadevan fighting terrorists in Kashmir, is turning out to be the biggest hit of 2006 in Malayalam.

In most of the theatres including the one in Thiruvananthapuram, police had to resort to lathi charge because of the large crowds surging to get into the theatre. The story may be set in Kashmir but its fiery dialogues, voiced by Mohanlal, are being applauded by the audience in all the theatres.

Mohanlal has given forty days to Ram Gopal Verma for the remake version of Sholay, which is in the news for quite a time.

The film which starts rolling by the end of September will also feature Abhishek Bachchan in the lead role. Mohanlal will play the role that Sanjeev Kumar has done in the original.

Know who is going too play the role of Gabbar Singh? It’s none other than the one and only Amitabh Bachchan, who has played the lead in the original.

The super hit song of the movie Mehbooba will be remixed again and Urmila will dance to the tunes of the song.

Mohanlal has decided to shift his next venture Alibhai by Shaji Kailas for the time being. The completed script of the film based on Calicut market will be set aside for a couple of months.

Meanwhile, Lal will start another project with the director of Ali Bhai Shaji Kailas. This flick titled Badaa Kalyani will present Mohanlal in the character of a Police officer.

Scripted by S.N.Swamy, this film is all set to start by the end of October and will hit the theatres as the first release of Lal in 2007. The other cast and crew of this film produced by Antony Perumbavoor in the banner of Aashirvaad films, are being finalized.

I went for KeertiChakra on Friday 4 pm show at Calicut Blue Diamond. The show was nearly full. There was good rush for the previous show and long queue for next show. This inspite Friday being a working day.

Mostly family is coming for it now. Women queue was as long as mens. There was heavy rain also.

Nice to hear that VN also is a hit .

In Kerala B and C centers are filled with VN and Rasathandram.

While A centers are filled with Mahasamudram and KeerthiChakra

Agree, particularly after seeing how KeerthiChakra and Mahasamudram are competing with each other. This has been bad for both movies. It is said that Keerthi will collect 20% less than its potential because of Mahasamudram.

I went for Mahasamudram last Monday. The movie is just OK.

Dr.Janardanam seems to be still in serial mode while making this film. He leaves a lot loose ends (which is usually overlooked in episode based serials). An example is, no answer is given to Isahak's (Lalettan) guilt of having killed a man, Rahman's emotional love triangle is not resolved.

Isahak is made to be too perfect a human, something that works against Lalettan's naturality (sthree sarvamsaha serial effect). Too many side stories are included to justify every action of Lalettan.

Inspite of a large star cast with Jagathi, Innocent, Jagadeesh, Rahman etc there is niether emotional or comedy inputs from them. They could have been replaced by some cardboards.

Laila is a total waste. There is only one scene that is challenging for her (A emotional outburst between Lalettan and Laila before she returns to Jail). Lailas visible acting effort is amplified to an embarrassing level by Lalettans effortless performance.

But then why the movie is enjoyable, because of Lalettan, its only his acting that brings conviction to Isahak. Action scenes and songs are also picturized well.

The 19th Step

Bharatbala to roll out Indo-Japanese martial arts film

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IANS

Chennai-based filmmaker Bharatbala is all set to kick off an Indo-Japanese co-production, depicting a Japanese samurai's search for enlightenment which finally brings him to India.

Tentatively titled "The 19th Step", the film is to be shot in Japan and the southern Indian state of Kerala.

"In terms of canvas and scale, this will be much bigger than my first films," says Bharatbala, who is in Cannes to market his previous film, "Hari Om". Though not a co-production, it has used French acting talent to great effect.

In "The 19th Step", talks are currently on with three Japanese actors for the lead role of the samurai warrior. Representatives of the Japanese co-production partner are expected to make a trip to India to see how the script can be tweaked in a way that will make the film viable in Japan.

"Japan is a big market, second only to the US," the filmmaker told IANS. "If an India-themed film clicks there, it will represent a huge breakthrough for us." The script of the film has been written by Malayalam litterateur M.T. Vasudevan Nair, "whose knowledge of Japanese literature is phenomenal."

"The 19th Step" is expected to roll by the end of 2006.

Though the film is being designed to appeal to a global audience, like Chinese martial art fantasies such as "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "Hero and The House of Flying Daggers", Bharatbala points out that it will have no special effects.

"All the action will be real," he says. "Even as the film will entertain through a mix of action, spirituality and romance, it will be rooted in the ethos of its setting."
