[tscii:23b2a64dcf]Englishman replaces Pierce Brosnan as the suave spy in 'Casino Royale'

James Bond is going back to his roots. And they’re blond.

Sandy-haired English actor Daniel Craig was unveiled Friday as the star of the next Bond film, “Casino Royale,” due in theaters in November 2006.

“I had a couple of martinis when I found out,” Craig said.

Craig’s name, the subject of speculation for weeks, was revealed as he was whisked down the River Thames aboard a military speedboat to a waterside news conference. He replaces Pierce Brosnan, who has starred in the last four Bond films.

Craig, 37, said he’d only found out on Monday that he definitely had the part. He said that while being considered, he’d had to think about whether he really wanted the job.

“It was difficult, but I tried to think about it like any other job. We have got an incredible script, and that is my first line of attack. Once I had read it, I knew I did not have any choice,” Craig said. “It is a huge iconic figure in movie history, and those things don’t come along very often.”

Producer Michael G. Wilson said 200 actors had been considered, but Craig was the only one who had been offered the role.

Speculation about the new Bond included Clive Owen, Ioan Gruffudd, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Gerard Butler, Ewan McGregor, Colin Farrell, Hugh Jackman, Heath Ledger and Eric Bana.

Craig has had a busy career that includes roles in the 1990s British TV drama “Our Friends in the North” and films including “The Mother,” “Enduring Love” and “Layer Cake.” He played Paul Newman’s sinister son in “Road to Perdition,” was poet Ted Hughes opposite Gwyneth Paltrow’s Sylvia Plath in “Sylvia” and appeared in this year’s thriller “The Jacket” with Adrien Brody.

He’s currently filming another thriller, “The Visiting,” with Nicole Kidman.

Craig is the first blond Bond and the second Englishman to play the suave British superspy.

Of the five other actors to play 007, only Roger Moore is English-born. Sean Connery is Scottish, George Lazenby Australian, Timothy Dalton was born in Wales and Brosnan is Irish.

'Tougher and grittier'
A respected screen actor but not — until Friday — a household name, Craig acknowledged feeling uncomfortable with the level of fame his new role will bring him.

At the packed press conference inside a Royal Navy facility on the Thames, he fielded questions from various reporters, tabloid gossip columnists and a journalist from the Ministry of Defense magazine.

His favorite Bond? Sean Connery.

Favorite Bond film? “Goldfinger.”

Favorite Bond girl? Diana Rigg in “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.”

But he brushed aside questions about supermodel Kate Moss and actress Sienna Miller — both tabloid fixtures whom he has reportedly dated.

“I’m not going to get into that,” he said.

Ian Fleming’s first Bond novel, originally published in 1953, “Casino Royale” is one of the few Bond adventures not to feature the MI6 gadget-maker Q. It was previously filmed as a 1967 spoof starring Peter Sellers.

Director Martin Campbell — who directed Brosnan’s first Bond outing, “GoldenEye” in 1995 — said the movie would be “tougher and grittier” than previous films, with “more character and less gadgets.” He said the story would begin with Bond first becoming a “double-0” agent.

“It is really the arc in which he becomes Bond,” Campbell said. “He starts out just having earned his double-0 stripes and comes out at the end the Bond we know and love.

“A lot of the embryonic Bond things will come out in the film — how he gets the Aston Martin, how he mixes a martini.”

“Casino Royale” is due to begin filming in January, in the Czech Republic, the Bahamas, Italy and at Pinewood Studios near London. Campbell said the budget will likely exceed $100 million.

“I am looking most forward to actually starting getting on with it, and feeling intimidated about pretty much everything,” Craig said. “It is a sort of responsibility, but it is also a huge adventure.”

Casino Royale - 12-04-06
Casino Royale production update - Bahamas wraps, filming in Prague set to complete end of May

Director Martin Campbell is scheduled to conclude principal photography on Casino Royale in the Czech Republic at the end of May. The final shots in the country will take place in Czech spa town Karlovy Vary, which will double as Montenegro - reports Screen Daily.

Bond franchise holders EON Productions are working with MGM and Columbia Pictures on the film, which started shooting January 30.

MGM executives toured the set of Casino Royale in Prague on April 6. In town to promote the planned launch of the MGM Channel in central Europe, MGM chairman and CEO Harry Sloan, COO Rick Sands, MGM Networks executive VP Bruce Tuchman and others toured Barrandov Studios sound stages where Campbell was filming a critical gambling scene between James Bond, played by Daniel Craig, and villain Le Chiffre, played by Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen.

Although Bond and Le Chiffre play baccarat in Ian Fleming’s 1953 novel, the game will be Texas Hold ‘Em poker in the 21st Bond film.

Casino Royale’s filming in the Bahamas wrapped April 5. The Caribbean location stands in for Madagascar, where Casino Royale begins with Bond chasing down and apparently killing a villain.

From Prague, filming will move to Venice for exteriors for five days, after which it returns to Pinewood Studios in the UK. The climactic action scenes will make use of the water tank on Pinewood’s 007 stage. The existing tank is being made deeper for Casino Royale, growing from a current depth of 8 feet to 20 feet.

Columbia will release the film on November 17.

Sir Sean Connery is considering turning a novel by an Edinburgh author into a Hollywood blockbuster - reports The Scotsman.

The former James Bond actor, who earlier this week said he did not want to act again, has been in contact with Ken McClure about bringing his controversial novel The Gulf Conspiracy to the big screen.

Connery, who has been an executive producer on such blockbusters as The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Finding Forrester, Entrapment, The Rock and Just Cause, may even take on the behind the scenes role for the new movie.

The Gulf Conspiracy is a fictional thriller which centres on the theory that vaccinations were responsible for the development of Gulf War Syndrome.

Vincent Finlayson, Dr McClure's business manager, has been in contact with the Oscar-winning actor about the project.

[tscii:ef4270a5ef]Eva Green - Vesper

Vesper Lynd works for the Treasury Department and is sent to assist 007 on the “Casino Royale” mission. Intelligent, beautiful, but with many dark secrets, Vesper is the ultimate Bond girl.

It is Vesper's job to control the purse strings of the mission, and to decide how much of the Treasury's money Bond can risk in his poker game with Le Chiffre.

Having to share a long train ride with Agent 007, Vesper soon sums up Bond and puts him “in his place”. As with Fleming's character, Vesper is business-orientated and does no take to Bond's attitude. But, Bond and Vesper eventually warm to each other as they spend more time together, with 007 ultimately naming his new vodka martini recipe after her.

Contrary to Fleming’s character, the Vesper of the film appears to have shed much of venerability and adopted the recently cliched Bond Girl mentality.

Although there are hints to past troubles, Vesper's character is not the the "damaged goods" of the 1953 novel. Her fate, although tragic, is not the same as the literary one, with Vesper's demise becoming more cinematic - but still as poignant for Bond.[/tscii:ef4270a5ef]

I liked Octopussy mainly bcos most of the shooting was done in India !
and our own Vijay Amritraj acted in it as Bond's friend.
There's a chase scene in this move where two Autorickshaws speed through the city of Jaipur, with leaps & bounds !

I use to wonder whether the drivers who drove those autos were recruited from Chennai ? Since auto drivers in Chennai are quite adept in speeding, leaping over potholes, and other stunts !

Fire Erupts on New James Bond Movie Set
Jul 30, 8:18 AM EST

A blaze erupted Sunday on the set of the latest James Bond movie west of London, but no injuries were reported, fire officials said.

The fire broke out just before 11:30 a.m. at Pinewood Studios, about 19 miles west of London, Buckinghamshire Fire Brigade said.

Eight fire engines were called to the set, officials said.

Television footage showed plumes of smoke rising from the building, with the roof of the "Casino Royale" set charred and caved in.

"It is just a complete mess," said Fraser Pearson, spokesman for the Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. "I would say the whole building has been damaged by the fire. It is still smoking quite badly. There has definitely been a large blaze here."

Roads near the studio were shut down briefly, but the blaze was contained and no one was hurt, said Vicky Evans, spokeswoman for Thames Valley Police.

The vast stage had been transformed into a replica of Venice, Italy, where part of the film is set. "Casino Royale," due for release in October, will be the first film featuring actor Daniel Craig as agent 007.

Craig was chosen last year to replace Pierce Brosnan as the British super-spy.

Casino Royale, most disappointing Bond film ever
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Friday, November 17, 2006]

The newest edition of 007 movies, CASINO ROYALE, has turned out to be one of the most disappointing Bond flicks ever.

The film was premiered yesterday at Delhi and it was shocking to witness the slow pace sans any chills and thrills in this 'Birth-of-Bond' movie. There are just about 3-4 notable scenes in the film and that includes a couple of excellently orchestrated action sequences in the first 45 minutes of the film, followed by a scene or two at the casino table.

Apart from this, the film tries to rely heavily on emotional moments, hence trying to show the softer side of James Bond. But in an attempt to do so, it deviates from the vintage Bond following that it has cultivated over the decades.

Things slow down considerably in the pre-climax and the story seems to be moving towards an abrupt end. Though the climax gets your attention back in for a couple of minutes, it doesn't really come with a kind of shock value. In fact, one has now got used to such twists in numerous Hollywood/Bollywood films over the last few years. A below average climax action sequence which follows, only adds on to the boredom further.

Also missing is the tongue-in-cheek humour which is normally associated with every Bond movie. Here the witty dialogues are few and far-between and there is hardly a chance for Bond to showcase his naughty side.

Daniel Craig is fine as an actor but comparisons with Sean Connery and even Pierce Brosnan are inevitable. Craig does well but the loyal followers of Connery and Brosnan would be ready with their daggers out, once the film is screened across the world.

[tscii:2a1e967c85]New Bond Blunted
by Scott Holleran

Wiping the slate clean, the heavily marketed restart of writer Ian Fleming's secret agent James Bond, Casino Royale, retains most of Bond's essence and practically none of his charms.

Plot matters less than character in this wildly successful action franchise, which had been slouching toward schlock for decades in mindlessly vulgar spectacles. Agent 007 needed a refresh and Sony and company deserve credit for trying.

Newly minted superspy Bond (Daniel Craig) is assigned by top agent M (Judi Dench) to thwart terrorist sponsor Le Chiffre's (Mads Mikkelsen) schemes. Along the trail, he falls for a buxom brunette named Vesper (Eva Green). She's there to keep him on budget, no small matter considering he has enlisted in a high stakes card game opposite the villain.

Aces are played following chases, which alternate between romance and card games. After a tangential connection is established between a vague network of terrorists and Le Chiffre, and malevolent forces dominate the action, it's back to the cards and the love affair.

This means there isn't much to gain, since the outcomes are predictable. That leaves Bond and his quest, the success of which depends upon one's predilection for the iconic hero and his values.

As to values, he has none, except Vesper, and it's easy to see what the writers (including Crash's Paul Haggis) have in store for her. Other than Vesper, with whom he generates few sparks, Bond is more muscle than brains. He may be perfectly toned and able to withstand a ballbusting (literally), but he lies to M, breaks into her home, destroys private property for kicks, and, as he smugly says, sneering at his previous persona, doesn't give a damn whether the martini's shaken or stirred.

That's as sharp as he gets and, while he looks fit in a pair of snug swim trunks and decent in a tuxedo, he is not especially bright. In virtually every encounter, from a chase in Uganda to the final push, Bond fails to achieve his goal. Playing poker, sizing up double agents, getting his man—this craggy, pugnacious Bond rarely rakes it in.

When he does earn M's promotion—and Miss Dench does her best to lift the proceedings—it is unclear what if anything has been achieved. It's as if GoldenEye director Martin Campbell went from putting the whole universe at stake in every instant to putting nothing up in its place. Campbell all but cancels the bet, throwing in a curiously flat scene of total destruction in Venice as homage to those classic Doomsday countdowns.

Destroying Venice epitomizes the movie, which aims to be edgy by eviscerating that which is beautiful, reversing the old formula. Through no fault of the actor, who is more stout than civilized in the role, this includes Bond. Even M is reduced to mouthing cliches about the Cold War.

Casino Royale spins and wins a few. Scenic locations—Italy's enchanted Lake Como, the balmy Bahamas, Venice—are gorgeously depicted, recalling the postcard quality of past Bond pictures. Whether inside a rail car or a sports car, details are rich and inviting. An airport showdown is thrilling, though it hasn't much to do with anything.

Neither does this buffed, new James Bond, who bleeds, fails and loses and who convinces the world that he is completely through being cool.

Casino Royale is the best bond movie since Dr. NO

- James bond is not projected as a super human being (may be in a few scenes, but they have been picturized extremely well)

- James Bond has an ego.

- Excellent acting from the bond, underplayed his character throughout

- That famous BGM comes only in the LAST scene

- The movie just ends in 10 seconds  The climax was mindblowing.

- The dialouge, The name is Bond, James Bond comes only once in the movie and that apparently is the last line in the movie

- On the negatives, the transition of the heroine and the reason for her betrayal is stupid (her boyfriend stuff, a lady who has been given such a huge responsibility wont act SILLY )

- Overall, a must watch 8-)

When watching the trailer of the movie, I had a hard time identifying James Bond and was shocked to discover that he was the one who looked like one of the extras.
Decided that the movie would be hopeless and as a James Bond (novel, not movie) fan, I thought of giving it a miss at the cinema.

Last Saturday with absolutely nothing to do, I finally decided to watch Casino Royale.

Boy, was I in for a surprise! Craig demystifies the Bond character and becomes human. Although there were many shocking betrayals - like making M a woman :banghead: and Mathis a traitor (was he or was he not? ) - the movie stuck very much to the original, except for some updatings to bring a novel set in the 1950s to 2000s.

I enjoyed the movie very much - all 2.5 hours of it. and in fact went for a second viewing last night.

This bond movie is one of the best bond movie ever. Ask anyone who associated with Bond movies and they'll answer Casino Royale is far more better than Pierce's bond movies, b'cause the story came straight from Fleming's first novel and depicted in a more realistic Bond/British agent.

Haven't have the slightest idea, but it's gonna be released in 2008 for sure with Craig again. Somehow the producers seems to love him than the viewers  If Connery or Moore didn't potray Bond with funny one liners, raising eyebrows and stuff we would've accept Craig, but.................

Previously they had been some talks bringing Brit as Bronsons girl, but they felt she might be too young for Bronson. I hope they reject her AGAIN :argh: yuck. They'll always name new Bond movies with numbers 20,21, 22......eventually they'll change it once the production starts.

[tscii:51bda12d00]Okay, when I say expert, I mean in Malaysia.

I saw QOS and here is my review:

If CR is a legitimate standalone film, would QOS be Godfather II, or Star Wars: TESB? Well, sadly it would be Superman II…which is not bad, but not as good as the first.

Where do I start? Allow me to break it into elements that we normally would like to look out for in the Bond films.

Script.
Convoluted? Nope, pretty straight forward…a slight rehash of LTK, its padded with more action sequences that actually slows down the progress of the story…which is not that great either. Problem is, in CR they had great source material to work it and in QOS, they had to go back to cooking their own little dish. And this time, its revenge dish…not necessarily the first time in the films history. Not entirely original, since Fleming dealt with it in YOLT, and the filmmakers had earlier dealt with it in LTK (I am pretending that Brosnan Bond never happened, so to hell with TWINE etc).

Speaking of LTK, in QOS, M asks Bond to hand over the weapon, then Bond escapes by kicking the MI6 dudes, and jump over the balcony. Is that Déjà vu or the scriptwriters were just plain lazy.

So, you have a pretty so and so script to work with, and the problem is tossed to…

Direction
Forster did a good job, when the scenes are quiet, introspective, exploring a bit of Bond’s psyche. Marred by overlong and too frequent action scenes, this could have made a more intelligent film if there were more brainwork, instead of gunwork, involved in what could have been a wonderful sequel to CR. I hear Forster might return to Bond 23, so I hope he would pay more attention to the criticism on the action scenes, and help to come up with stronger, more intelligent film.

Action
Bourne? Before Greengrass there was Bruckheimer, Bay and West. At that time (90s seems far away now), the style was referred to as “MTV style of quick cutting and shooting”. Shaky cam included. And for you kids out there, go and watch The Rock, and you know what I mean.

And it’s the same feeling I get watching this film. Slam, bang, crashes, breaking of glasses (like one reviewer said, too many glasses were broken during the making of this film), running, shooting, jumping, thumping, spinning (on the rope), explosions, fire, its all there. My fiancé was gripping my hand during those scenes. Alas, it was the grip that kept me on focus. I was not interested most of the time. I just wanted the quieter scene.

I never say this to anyone, but I want to say this to the editor: “You are wrong”. We care about what happens to Bond during this scene. We want to see him to know if he is in pain, if he is suffering, if he likes the killing or not, if he has moments of doubt, if he cares for his life or not…none of this can be seen during these action sequences. In between milliseconds you see grim, cold face of Bond’s doing his thang.

Music.
Contrary to popular belief, there is Bond theme interspersed throughout the film. That’s a good thing. The bad thing is Arnold is still one board. He has to go. His sound evokes irrepressible awful memories of the four Brosnan/Bonds (it happened…not it didn’t…it did…). This is a rebooted Bond. This is a different world. It’s like listening to Dmitri Tiomkin in a Clint Eastwood movie.

Take a bow Arnold. Maybe the producers are nice. Please don’t take advantage of other’s generosity. Move on.

And I don’t even want to talk about the turd that is the theme song. But then, there has been many animal faeces disguised as theme songs in the history of Bond films.

Characters.
Supporting.

Leiter and Mathis are a joy. It’s good to have them back…and yes, they could have longer screentime. I want to see Bond palling around with them a lot more. There are more fun with scenes of Bond with these two then all the action scenes of both CR and QOS combined. Almaric’s Greene is boring. When he stands on top of the balcony and gives that speech, you see Carver, you see Graves (Brosnan Bond did not happen…did not happen). The others were there, I don’t know. I don’t care. Gemma Atherton is total waste. Why was she there? Why was her character sent to bring Bond back? Why not some tough agents…like they did in LTK. Oh, the scriptwriters were probably scared that they are accused of stealing ideas from past. Too late, dudes….

Main characters.
Camille.
Boring. My fiancé said, for a Bond girl, she is pretty plain looking. Well, it didn’t bother me none. But she did not add to the movie. No glamour, no danger. Nothing.

M.
Dench’s M should go. She is incompetent, emotional, insecure, insipid, and basically an idiot (betrayed by agent working 8 years with her). One scene she asks Bond, “How come we didn’t know about this organisation”? I wanted Bond to say, “It’s because you are incredibly stupid, you old hag!”

Why does she have to tag around Bond, travelling all those places? Is she in charge of Bond only? Doesn’t she have other important task to do back in the office? Also, looking at her facial expression most of the time, is she suffering from internal haemorrhage? Also, instead of the pleasure of having a Bond girl in her bathroom, we have M in her bathroom this time. What is happening, dudes?

I understand Dench is known to be an excellent actress (I prefer others, I find Dench to be dull…but then incredible dullness have been mistaken for great performance, so its just a matter of opinion). So, dear producers give her a rest. Let M go and look after an orphanage or something. Get someone more professional. I don’t care if it’s a woman, man, transvestite or a fat orange Tabby.

Bond.

Ah…the glue. The one element that holds the whole movie together. Daniel Craig is James Bond. He owns the role now. Anyone out there claiming to be Bond should be arrested and made to watch all Brosnan Bond films over and over again (no, it did not happen).

HE brings dignity to the role. He brings nobility to the role. He is not exactly Fleming’s Bond. He need not be Fleming’s Bond. Dalton was Fleming’s Bond. Connery was the ultimate movie Bond. Craig now has the advantage of being both.

Forster and the scriptwriters committed a terrible crime by not allowing Bond to have more moments for himself. More moments to reveal himself to the audience. Why a crime? Because they are using a wonderful actor. But Craig made best use of what material he has…and he added to it. I don’t mind seeing him doing even mundane things like making coffee or explaining to his maid that his eggs must be boiled three and a half minutes. That would be more exciting than the badly cut car chase in the beginning.

I beg the producers to keep Craig for more movies. If he asks more money, pay him. If he asks for a small Latin America country, negotiate with the dictator and get it for him (the scriptwriters can help, they are pretty good with the dictator thingy). I am watching this film for Craig again.

And thanks to Craig, I am giving this film 6/10 rating.

My Review :

This got to be a very unique and exceptional movie in Bond Franchise
coming from Director Marc Forster - > this subject completely different league, from is previous venture" The Kite Runner" he did a good job

Bond after winning the high stakes poker tournament Casino Royale in Montenegro and loosing his friend (or the only Bond girl he feel in love with). And we all remember he standing at Mr.White's house with gun.

The opening scene of Quantum of Solace was heart breaking scene for me to see the same Austin Martin.. which I really loved.. got smashed and doors rip opened in the opening car chase.. which was stunning But not as gripping as Casino Royale's opening chasing on construction site. Then he drags out Mr.White from his car and we get to see M and her colleagues waiting for bond in Italy.. Thatz the first frame where you get to see the bond or I should say a Blue eyed Killing machine..with heart filled with vengeance. for a minute I couldn't believe my own eyes that 00-Mi6 top agent who has license to kill was killing out of emotions not with a purpose. That was an interesting angle. But that very same view kind of let's down whole "Importance of BOND" the secret agent.

This leads to, Mi6 trying to put a stop on bonds movement and he turns Mathis who he thought was a double agent. Mathis agrees to help. Movie moves to Italy,Bolivia, and other European destination. And finally ends in Russia Where he meets Vesper Lynd boyfriend who would have set her up to get the winning to the organisation (and thatz the last point of Bond's revenge)

Main Plot : - Villan trying to negotiate between developed countries and developing countries leaders to take control of last biggest oil reserve in the world in Bolivia (or perhaps the only water source of Boliva).
Ford has displayed all its small cars and land rover !! No Bond Girl, No Car for Bond. Dainel craig was more of an angry lover and less of Bond.

He even forget this signature cocktail .. mix - in a scene he will ask bartender to explain that to Mathis..

Let me remind him , Mr. Bond - :-) it is "A dry martini,One. In a deep champagne goblet." Three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it's ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel.

For me This Movie is a big let down as a sequel for Casino Royale. !

Hope Bond comes back with next assignment which needs him as a secret agent And not as anything else. !

I don't want to claim that I am an expert in Bond history.. There was a reason why they didn't make this movie as sequel to original Casino royale. When they had 3 stories to pick from ! Even Ian himself agreed to this ..!

For this Action Flick - > We can push it to.. ***1/2 (Good)

Rog made those "so-far-away-from-Fleming-that-it-could-be-his-third-cousin-from-Ukraine" films watchable with his tongue in cheek humour. I watch them for him, yes including AVTAK, though Walken overshadows everything including the frickin' projector.

Moonraker, now that you mentioned it, Raiks, is also full of quotable lines, it look stupid on paper (or on screen), but Sir Rog really made it funny:

Holly: Hang on!
Bond: The thought had occurred to me.

The bad guy, Drax, gets couple of gem:
Drax: Look after Mr. Bond. See that some harm comes to him.

and

Drax: James Bond. You appear with the tedious inevitability of an unloved season.
and

Drax: At least I shall have the pleasure of putting you out of my misery

Of course, old Q gets his share too:
Minister: My God, what's Bond doing?
Q: I think he's attempting re-entry, sir.

Triple Meaning :rotfl3:

Dolly and Jaws :cool2:

Yeah, Dr. Goodhead, yabba...how they got away with it those days.

Also, note that this film contain one scene that shows how good an actor Sir Rog can be - the centrifuge scene. Pretty scary thing, and when he walks out, you expect him to quip something, but instead he brushes the gal away, looking really distressed and you know the bad guy's gonna get it.

Too bad, he was against violence, so you don't really get to see his darker side.

Dr. No (1962)

Best hero introduction ever. In any cinema that I know. Ever.

Very faithful to the book, including the character. Gritty, dark, tough, Connery is an explosion on screen that will never be matched. Sean Connery is James Bond.

It took Daniel Craig to bring back this characterisation after Bond was sissified during the tragic 1995-2002 outings. But Connery already portrayed what Fleming described as "Nasty customer". The film did age a bit, but thanks to elements that are familiar to younger audience, it stays relevant and as exciting as it was before.

Groucho,

thank you for coming with a writeup on Bond.... I liked the chronological order of reaching bond movies in asian market....I'm wondering it. what's the selection criteria's for the role other than Scottish descent? I knoe that he cann't be an asian, desi, african, afro-american... Did flemming describe the features of the spy in his books?

groucho070
9th October 2012, 08:17 AM
Scottish descent was added after Dr. No appeared in 1962 (mentioned in his "obituary" in the You Only Live Twice novel), after Fleming was impressed with Connery*. Or, it could also be that he was of Scottish root as well.

Off my mind, he is described as tall, dark cruel looks. More info here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Bond_(literary_character)#Looks).

Usually, they pick anyone in the Great Britain, Australia/NZ. As you know, they went bonkers and almost had three Americans play Bond (Burt Reynolds, Eastwood, James Brolin).

*further proof that Fleming approves of the film, and is influenced by it is the novels 1962 onwards started including funny one liners (YOLT especially, though its very dark) and in OHMSS novel, in a party scene he included actress Ursula Andress.

Watched it yesterday. little bit disappointed with the overall movie as I expected more Bond kind of action sequences. Enjoyed the first action sequence :notworthy:. The first James Bond introduced to me was Pierce Brosnan and I am yet to come out of him. I always feel Daniel Craig lacks the style. but this guy fights better than Brosnan.

Haven't seen any other previous James Bond movies. So no idea about them.

Seen it yesterday, pretty disapointed! Bond girls were not nice as well. Not at like the "Typical bond" movie. The Climax was good though, enjoyed those glass skyscraper in Shanghai though!

Loved Skyfall and I like Daniel Craig as Bond next only to Sean Connery who is my favorite actor to have portrayed Bond. Skyfall was one of the darker Bond movies, getting sentimental a bit towards the end, but also shows the human side of the characters. Skyfall will be worth the revists like Casino Royale and unlike Quantum of Solace.
