j.c.,
Just a suggestion: Most of these are popular hits.. It will be good if 'Thiru's criterion' (in the other thread) is adopted: "There are certain movies/songs which are not blockbusters or not even hits, but still the movie/song is a good one.. "
I'm sure each of us can come up many such recommendations.

Our tree of love will stay ever green, if our hearts stay ever true

Oh darling, I love you so, don't you know that I'll be
True 'til the leaves turn blue on the evergreen tree

On every branch will blossom, dreams for me and you
Our tree of love will stay ever green, if our hearts stay ever true
Oh darling, I love you so, don't you know that I'll be
True 'til the leaves turn blue on the evergreen tree

On the evergreen tree, on the evergreen tree.

"Echoes" by Pink Floyd from the album "Meddle" - This fills one whole side in the casette-version of the album.
Listen to this song, everyone and let the song speak for itself.

P.S: Though you can listen to it in any situation, with any setting, in any mood, for best effects try this in the following conditions:
Choose a decent system with good bass/surround
Switch off lights
Lie down
For optimum "experience" getting stoned is recommended
Hit "Play" and close your eyes

Another one from the Floyd vineyard.....
The album "Atom Heart Mother" (named after a newspaper headline with the same name)...
Their first major experimental shift before "Meddle".
For those who listen to it and wonder "What was all that about??".... i'm sure you'll like at least "Summer 68", which is quite catchy......

yeah ... Summer '68 is a good song -

not a single word was said, they lied still without fears.
occasionally you showed a smile, but what was the need?
i felt the cold far too soon in a wind of ninety-five,
my friends are lying in the sun, wish I was there.
tomorrow brings another town, another girl like you,
have you time before you leave to greet another man.

and AA, did Atom Heart Mother come out before Meddle ... i thought both the albums were released in '71?

Think AHM came before Meddle...

And about Summer '68, what's peculiar about this song is the fact that its the most atypical Floyd song, nothing they'd done before this or after this sounds like this one...... the versatility!

Any fan of Bob Dylan here.He is at first difficult to like, but once you get hooked on his songs it is for life!
His song "Like a Rolling stone" is considered the greatest song in rock music. It is also the most cruel song I have heard. It is about a woman who used to high and mighty and now fallen on hard times,See the way he taunts her
"once upon a time you dressed so fine, you threw the bums a dime, didn't you?...........How does it feel to be without a home , like a complete unknown, like a rolling stone,"
Then he goes on to finish her like this:"when you got nothing, you have nothing to lose,Y0u are invisible now, you have got no secrets to conceal"
I think he is best when he is cruel, in another song about masters of wars he writes,
"I hope you die, and your death ll come soon,
I ll follow your casket,in the pale afternoon,
And watch while you''re lowered, down to your deathbed,
I ll stand over your grave, till I'm sure you're dead."
His "shooting star" is a lovely love song,
Any fans here?

Now , he has written "Times they have changed ", recently, Michael Douglas was in the video.
Interesting thing is the band "Rolling stones," got their name from the song.

i think the song you're referring to is 'Things have changed' ... i dont remember the exact words but it goes something like this -

people are crazy, times are strange
i'm locked in tight, i'm out of range,
i used to care, but
things have changed

the song is part of the soundtrack for the curtis hanson film 'Wonder Boys' starring michael douglas & tobey maguire.

interestingly, the same film also had another bob dylan number -'shooting star' - anyone heard it?

Yeah, It is one of the greatest love songs, not the melodramatic songs from boy bands.

Seen a shooting star tonight
And I thought of you.
You were trying to break into another world
A world I never knew.
I always kind of wondered
If you ever made it through.
Seen a shooting star tonight
And I thought of you.

Seen a shooting star tonight
And I thought of me.
If I was still the same
If I ever became what you wanted me to be
Did I miss the mark or
Over-step the line
That only you could see?
Seen a shooting star tonight
And I thought of me.

Listen to the engine, listen to the bell
As the last fire truck from hell
Goes rolling by, all good people are praying,
It's the last temptation
The last account
The last time you might hear the sermon on the mount,
The last radio is playing.

Seen a shooting star tonight
Slip Away.
Tomorrow will be another day.
Guess it's too late to say the things to you
That you needed to hear me say.
Seen a shooting star tonight
Slip away.

I really love it when he moves in to higher gear, urgency in his voice when he sings,

"Listen to the engine, listen to the bell
As the last firetruck from hell goes rolling by,"
What imagery!
look at the words he uses,
"It's the last temptation
The last account
The last time you might hear the sermon on the mount,
The last radio is playing."
I don't think anyone can match him in usage of words

here are the lyrics to Love Story by Andy Williams :D

Where do I begin to tell the story
Of how great a love can be
The sweet love story that is older than the sea
The simple truth about the love she brings to me

Where do I start
With her first hello
She gave new meaning to this empty world of mine
They'll never be another love another time
She came into my life and made the living fine

She fills my heart
She fills my heart with very special things
Angel songs and wild imaginings
She fill my soul with so much love
That any where I go I'm never lonely
With her around who could be lonely
I reach for her hand
She's always there

How long does it last
Can love be measured by the hours in a day
I have no answers now
But this much I can say
I know I'll need her until the stars all burn away
And she'll be there (x2)

never heard of it ...
but the one you've mentioned does reminds me of a song i've heard. it's called 'Kiss from a Rose', performed by Seal for the movie 'Batman Forever'. great example of how an average song can sound really good when its part of a movie soundtrack. you know, this number isn't really very impressive when you hear first hear it, but it complements the look and feel of the movie so well ... makes for a great theme song.

phil collins' album -testify .

all the songs are great.

worth listening to. :D

reproducing from the cd cover:

Phil collins credits his recent marriage and new found fatherhood as the catalyst to the creativity behind his first album of original songs in 6 years.

"the songs for this album were written over the last two years,"says phil. "working with new toys and new tools, they pretty much wrote themselves , and only occasionally needed nudging along.though i used 90% of my demos , i am lucky to have a fantastic team to help me finish the record, particulary Rob Cavallo,Allen Sides, Tim Pierce and James Sanger. there are some songs here that are amongst the best i have written; i hope you agree"

01- Wake up Call
02-Come with Me
03-Testify
04-Don't get me started
05-swing low and sweet
06-it's not too late
07-this love this heart
08-driving me crazy
09-the least you can do
10-can't stop loving you
11-through my eyes
12-you touch my heart

Recently I heard a Cyndi Larper versions which I didn't like. There is another cover version by Celine Dion which is okay;but the best is the original by Roy orbison.

Rarely, songs are written about other singers/musicians.

" Killing me softly with your song" sung by Roberta Flack(though originally by Lori Leiberman) was actually about Don Mclean. It became a huge no 1 hit

Don Mclean most famous song is "American Pie" (no 1 song in 1972) The lyrics of which are still being debated now in the internet groups.Although it is supposed to by about "Buddy Holly", there are many interpretations.

Asked what "American Pie" meant, McLean once replied, "It means I never have to work again". Later, he more seriously stated, "You will find many 'interpretations' of my lyrics but none of them by me [...] Sorry to leave you all on your own like this but long ago I realized that songwriters should make their statements and move on, maintaining a dignified silence.

His other songs include:1. vincen t(about vincent von gogh)

2.I love so you so,

3.buildings castles in the air.

His lyrics are very simple but with deep meaning

If you want to know more about the interpretations of "American Pie" go to this link;

i have listened to that song by don mclean . there is a parody
by yankovich for the same song titled "The Saga begins"

here are the lyrics:
The Saga Begins
---------------
Lyrical adaption of 'American Pie' by Don McLean
Music Corporation of America, Inc./Benny Bird Music (BMI)
(Administered by Copyright Management, Inc.)
New lyrics by Al Yankovic
With Special Thanks to George Lucas

A long long time ago
in a galaxy far away
Naboo was under an attack
And I thought me and Qui-Gon Jinn
Could talk the Federation into
Maybe cutting them a little slack
But their response, it didn't thrill us
They locked the doors and tried to kill us
We escaped from that gas
Then met Jar Jar and Boss Nass
We took a bongo from the scene
And we went to Theed to see the queen
We all wound up on Tatooine
That's where we found this boy...

Oh my my, this here Anakin guy
May be Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

Did you know this junkyard slave
Isn't even old enough to shave
But he can use the Force they say
Ahh, do you see him hitting on the queen
Though he's just nine and she's fourteen
Yeah, he's probably gonna marry her someday
Well, I know he built C-3PO
And I've heard how fast his pod can go
And we were broke, it's true
So we made a wager or two
He was a prepubescent flyin' ace
And the minute Jabba started off that race
Well, I know who would win first place
Oh yes, it was our boy

We started singin'... My my, this here Anakin guy
May be Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

Now we finally got to Coruscant
The Jedi Council we knew would want
To see how good the boy could be
So we took him there and we told the tale
How his midi-chlorians were off the scale
And he might fulfill that prophecy
Oh, the Council was impressed, of course
Could he bring balance to the Force?
They interviewed the kid
Oh, training they forbid
Because Yoda sensed in him much fear
And Qui-Gon said, "Now listen here
Just stick it in your pointy ear
I still will teach this boy"

He was singin'... My my, this here Anakin guy
May be Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

We caught a ride back to Naboo
'Cause Queen Amidala wanted to
I frankly would've liked to stay
We all fought in that epic war
And it wasn't long at all before
Little Hotshot flew his plane and saved the day
And in the end some Gungans died
Some ships blew up and some pilots fried
A lot of folks were croakin'
The battle droids were broken
And the Jedi I admire most
Met up with Darth Maul and now he's toast
Well, I'm still here and he's a ghost
I guess I'll train this boy

And I was singin'... My my, this here Anakin guy
May be Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"
We were singin'... My my, this here Anakin guy
May be Vader someday later - now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye
Sayin' "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi"

besides this Yankovich have composed parodies for many other songs. one of my favorite is this:

Eat It
------
by "Weird Al" Yankovic
parody of "Beat It" by Michael Jackson

How come you're always such a fussy young man
Don't want no Cap'n Crunch, don't want no Raisin Bran
Well don't you know that other kids are starvin' in Japan
So eat it, just eat it

Don't want to argue, I don't want to debate
Don't want to hear about what kinds of foods you hate
You won't get no dessert 'till you clean off you're plate
So eat it

Don't you tell me you're full
Just eat it... eat it
Get yourself an egg and beat it

Have some more chicken
Have some more pie
It doesn't matter
If it's boiled or fried

Just eat it, just eat it
Just eat it, just eat it... Woo!

Your table manners are a crying shame
You're playing with your food, this ain't some kind of game
Now, if you starve to death
You'll just have yourself to blame
So eat it. Just eat it.

You better listen, better do as you're told
You haven't even touched your tuna casserole
You better chow down, or it's gonna get cold
So eat it.

I don't care if you're full
Just eat it... eat it
Open up your mouth and feed it

Have some more yogurt
Have some more Spam
It doesn't matter if it's fresh or canned
Just eat it! Eat it! Eat it! Eat it!
Don't you make me repeat it!

Have a banana, have a whole bunch
It doesn't matter what you had for lunch

Just eat it! Eat it!
Eat it! Eat it!
Eat it! Eat it!
If it's too cold, reheat it

Have a big dinner. Have a light snack
If you don't like it, you can't send it back

Just eat it! Eat it!
Get yourself an egg and beat it!

Have some more chicken. Have some more pie
It doesn't matter if it's boiled or fried

Just eat it! Eat it!
Don't you make me repeat it!

Not necessarily arbitrary.

Progressive rock is characterized by the unconventional pace in which the song moves.
1) There is no (mostly) rigid/uniform structure as against conventional music, rock or otherwise
2) Prolongued instrumentation, with elongated solo performances, with relatively less lyrics
3) Marked by change(s) of pace within the song

As for Linkin Park, "In the end" is definitely not progressive rock.

Natalie Imbruglia - she is one amazing Australian singer/actress.

She has done three albums so far. Till yesterday her collection was lying unexplored in my dabba. Got a chance to listen to them . Some of her songs are fast paced dance numbers and some are somewhat slow. A general categorization would put all her songs in the 'soft' category.
Her songs rely more on the instruments rather than the vocals.

1. Big mistake

2. City (my pick , especially the opening guitar strums)

3. Torn (also equally good)

4. Mistake

all the above songs are from the album 'left of the middle'

5. Wrong impression

6. Sunlight

7. Beauty on The Fire

these two songs are from 'white lilies isalnd'

and finally

7. I've been watching you.

I've listed almost all her songs since i liked every one of them.

I have listened to only one song of her - "Torn" . Its quite good actually. It has been in my playlist for quite some time (and I measure the quality of song by its life in "my playlist" )

one song from my santana' collection

Man it's a hot one
Like seven inches from the midday sun
I hear you whisper and the words melt everyone
But you stay so cool
My munequita, my Spanish harlem mona lisa
Your my reason for reason
The step in my groove

And if you say this life ain't good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change my life to better suit your mood
Cause you're so smooth

And just like the ocean under the moon
Well that's the same emotion that I get from you
You got the kind of lovin that can be so smooth
Gimme your heart, make it real
Or else forget about it
I'll tell you one thing
If you would leave it would be a crying shame
In every breath and every word I hear your name calling me out
Out from the barrio, you hear my rhythm from your radio
You feel the turning of the world so soft and slow
Turning you round and round
Well, go forget about it....
Give me your heart, make it real, or else forget about it :exactly:

Have heard only one song (Layla) of Eric Clapton's and liked it too. Derek and the Dominos was his past band ?
He has been in a few bands including Cream, Yardbirds and Derek And The Dominos...
After a period of seclusion due to over-indulgence in booze/drugs, he returned to solo work mainly...
He has also collaborated with the GREAT Floyd-frontman Roger Waters - drummer Graham Broad and guitarist Doyle Bramhall II have played with Waters and Clapton in their solo tours.

He is right up there in the league of Jimmi Hendrix as a guitar virtuoso. Clapton is "Hendrix-meets-BB King-meets-Bob Marley" and more........

My personal Fav's:
24 Nights - Live in Royal Albert Hall [Album]
Badge
I shot The Sherif [Bob Marley Original]
Cocaine [JJ Cale original]
After Midnight [JJ Cale Original]
Sunshine Of Your Love
White Room
Old Love
Layla [NOT the unplugged version]
Blues Power

Rollin' And Tumblin'
Tears In Heaven
Signe
Eric Clapton MTV Unplugged [Album]

'Chasing Cars'....Snow Patrol

We'll do it all
Everything
On our own

We don't need
Anything
Or anyone

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

I don't quite know
How to say
How I feel

Those three words
Are said too much
They're not enough

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

Let's waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads

I need your grace
To remind me
To find my own

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see

I don't know where
Confused about how as well
Just know that these things will never change for us at all

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

K... here goes my current favourite. I dunno wether it is the beatiful singing or the strong lyrics or the gentle music thats captivating me... but to me, it is one of the best songs ever written.

My immortal - Evanescence

I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
'Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have
All of me

You used to captivate me
By your resonating life
Now I'm bound by the life you've left behind
Your face it haunts
My once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away
All the sanity in me

I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
I've been alone all along

Friends,

Thinkfloyd... . Now i'll look for the other versions too :D

all these years i have beent thinking that "turn the page" is metallica's original song. quite naturally, it was among my favs from them. But just recently I came to know that it is actually a cover of the original song by Bob Seger. Even before i felt that the lyrics were unusually too heavy and poetic for a metallica song. The original version is also a cool one. Metallica made subtle changes to the lyrics and ofcourse, hetfield rendered it with his own accent  .

The original version was about the life of a rock star. But metallica's video is about the life of a stripper who works to raise her child. The lyrics fits just perfectly into this theme. While Bob seger's song was more like a ballad, with gentle guitar strumming and drums, metallica's version is a lot more heavier.

Bob seger's song starts with a cool sax . Thats replaced with an awesome slide guitar by hammet. It just fits in perfectly, if not, amplifying the mood of the song. This song, seems like, is made to be covered by metallica... just too good  ... screaming guitar solos, powerful, expressive singing by Hetfield....

On a long and lonesome highway east of omaha
You can listen to the engines moaning out as one note song
You think about the woman or the girl you knew the night before

But your thoughts will soon be wandering the way they always do
When youre riding sixteen hours and theres nothing much to do
And you dont feel much like riding, you just wish the trip was through

Here I am - on the road again
There I am - up on the stage
Here I go - playing star again
There I go - turn the page

So you walk into this restaurant strung out from the road
And you feel the eyes upon you, as youre shaking off the cold
You pretend it doesnt bother you, but you just want to explode

Yeah, most times you cant hear em talk, other times you can
All the same old clichs, is it woman? is it man?
And you always seem outnumbered, you dont dare make a stand
Make your stand

Here I am - on the road again
There I am - up on the stage
Here I go - playing star again
There I go - turn the page

Oo-ooh, out there in the spotlight, youre a million miles away
Every ounce of energy you try to give away
As the sweat pours out your body like the music that you play, yeah

Later in the evening, you lie awake in bed
With the echoes of the amplifiers ringing in your head
You smoke the days last cigarette, remembering what she said
What she said

He-ey

Yeah
And here I am - on the road again
There I am - up on a stage
Here I go - playing star again
There I go - turn the page

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nl9KncCdEOE

LYRCS -

You only seal what your eyes want to see
how can I feel what you wanted to be
You're frozen
when your heart's not open
You're soaken still with how much you get
you waste your time with hate and regret
You're broken
when your heart's not open
If I could melt your heart
we'd never be apart
Yield yourself to me
you are the key

Now there's no point in placing a blame
and you should know I suffer the same
If I lose you, my heart will be broken
Love is a bird, she needs to fly
let other hurt inside of you die
You're frozen, when your heart's not open
If I could melt your heart
we'd never be apart
Yield yourself to me
you are the key

You only seal what your eyes want to see
how can I feel what you wanted to be
You're frozen
when your heart's not open
If I could melt your heart
we'd never be apart
Yield yourself to me
you are the key

Without You Here............- Goo Goo Dolls

Your love's a gathered storm I chased across the sky
A moment in your arms became the reason why
And you're still the only light that fills the emptiness
The only one I need until my dying breath
And I would give you everything just to
Feel your open arms
And I'm not sure I believe anything I feel

And now, now that you're near
There's nothing more without you
Without you here

And I'm trying to believe
In things that I don't know
The turning of the world
The color of your soul
That love could kill the pain
Truth is never vain
It turns strangers into lovers
And enemies to brothers
Just say you understand
I never had this planned

And now, now that you're near
There's nothing more without you
Without you here
Without you here
There's nothing more without you
Without you here

My head lies to my heart
And my heart it still believes
It seems the ones who love us are the ones
That we deceive
But you're changing everything
You're changing everything in me

And now, now that you're near
There's nothing more without you
Without you here

BLUE-One Love

It's kinda funny how life can change
Can flip 180 in a matter of days
Sometimes love works in mysterious ways
One day you wake up gone without a trace

[bridge]
I refuse to give up
I refuse to give in
You're my everything
I don't wanna give up
I don't wanna give in, oh no
Everybody sings

[chorus]
One love - for the mother's pride
One love - for the times we cried
One love - gotta stay alive
I will survive
One love - for the city streets
One love - for the hip-hop beats
One love, Oh I do believe
One love is all we need

Late at night I'm still wide awake
Think this is far more than I can take
I thought my heart could never break
Now I know that's one big mistake

[bridge]

[chorus]

Baby, just love me love me love me
Baby, just hold me hold me hold me
Oh, love me love me love me, Oooh

ANNIE'S SONG (John Denver)

You fill up my senses
Like a night in the forest
Like the mountains in springtime
Like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert
Like a sleepy blue ocean

You fill up my senses
Come fill me again
Come let me love you
Let me give my love to you
Let me drown in your laughter
Let me die in your arms
Let me lay down beside you
Let me always be with you
Come let me love you
Come love me again

Let me give my love to you
Come let me love you
Come love me again
You fill up my senses
Like a night in the forest ....

Sweet little song. Listen to "leaving on a jet plane" by john denver if possible. It is also good ( I was crazy abt thsi song once :D ).

There are other gud songs from him too...
Sunshine on my shoulders
Take me home country roads.

Such straight from heart songs and lyrics are so rare to find these days :( .

Uncovered another cover song :boo:

This time I've come to know abt a great band, again thanks to metallica. The song is "Tuesday's gone" which is agonisingly slow for a metallica song. Turns out that it was originally done by Lynyrd skynyrd. And wat a band it is... :notworthy: Any rock fan shud listen to them atleast once!

Well, I have got lots of songs to recommend from Lynyrd skynyrd, but this one is really easy on ears. If you liked songs like Rubaroo and Yun hi chala, you wud definitely love this. It is called "Sweet home alabama" by Lynyrd skynyrd. Supposed to be their greatest hit, and a great song too

yea thinkfloyd, yesterday I was discussing abt this only with my friend. Too bad, such things never happen in chennai :cry2: . Going to mumbai for a concert is too farfetched for me... I regretted a lot for the fact that deep purple went to b'lore... so mumbai is just outta question

"Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd.... An epic song!!! :notworthy: Certainly among the greatest songs ever, with its extra long triple guitar solo. The song is 9 minutes long and the guitar portion alone runs for arnd 5 mins.

Rocketboy, you will love this!

"NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN" (by MOODY BLUES ) - melancholy music & lyrics !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9muzyOd4Lh8

Nights in white satin, never reaching the end
Letters I've written, never meaning to send
Beauty I'd always missed, with these eyes before
Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore
'Cause I love you, yes I love you, oh, how I love you

Gazing at people, some hand in hand
Just what I'm going through they can't understand
Some try to tell me, thoughts they cannot defend
Just what you want to be, you will be in the end
And I love you, yes I love you
Oh, how I love you, oh, how I love you

Nights in white satin, never reaching the end
Letters I've written, never meaning to send
Beauty I'd always missed, with these eyes before
Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore
'Cause I love you, yes I love you
Oh, how I love you, oh, how I love you

'Cause I love you, yes I love you
Oh, how I love you, oh, how I love you

(spoken, not sung) :

Breathe deep in the gathering gloom
Watch lights fade from every room
Bedsitter people look back and lament
Another day's useless energy's spent
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one
Lonely man cries for love and has none
New mother picks up and suckles her sun
Senior citizens wish they were young
Cold-hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colors from our sight
Red is grey and yellow white
And we decide which is right
And which is an illusion?

"Hurt" with Christina Aguilera

it seems to appear whenever my best friend and I are together so we have jokingly referred to it as "our song" :P anyways still this girl has talent even if her previous...ahem...talent...wasn't my taste :D

Amityville - Eminem! 8-) F**kin Notorious!!

That's why the city is filled with a bunch of fu*kin idiots still (still)

That's why the first motherfu*ker poppin some sh*t he gets killed (killed)

That's why we don't call it Detroit, we call it Amityville ('Ville)

You can get capped after just havin a cavity filled (filled) (Laughes Insanely in the background)

That's why we're crowned the murder capital still (still)

This ain't Detroit, this is motherf*ckin Hamburger Hill! (Hill!)

We don't do drivebys, we park in front of houses and shoot

and when the police come we fu*kin shoot it out with them too!

That's the mentality here (here) that's the reality here (here)

Did I just hear somebody say they wanna challenge me here?? (huh?)

While I'm holdin a pistol with this many calibres here?? (here??)

Got some registration and just made this sh*t valid this year? (year?)

Cause once I snap I can't be held accountable for my acts and that's when accidents happen,
when a thousand bullets come at your house
and collapse the foundation around and they found youand your family in it (AHHHHH!) GOD DAMNIT ADMIT IT WHEN HE TELLS YOU

The whole album is just rocking, i have been listening this album for last 3 years non stop (only album so far from K'naan , next one in the line) , but still enthralling.

A blend of Hip-hop and afro music, and best of all the lyrics are just great, a must listen!!

Of course, Raiks. They were a rage coupla decades ago, and I had attended a live concert by BoneyM when they had visited New Delhi in the late 1980's. Btw other songs you might like: Night Flight to Venus (this song blends seamlessly into Rasputin, in the original album), Ma Baker, Rivers Of Babylon, Belfast, Bahama, Voodoo Night, BooNooNoos, and so on. (Some of these songs are in the links leading from the Youtube links given by you.)
