Hi, I am a newcomer to this forum so please go easy on me. Listening to my parents old collections I have become very attached to TMS songs.

I am curious about Dappanguthu/Dance songs and require some help. I love the song "kettukodi urumai melam" and I wish to redo this song and some others in my home studio in Toronto. I simply love the vocals, rock/guitar and piano parts. Could you recommend similar songs with that olde dance feel.

I must add, after reading the inspiring thread "Creativity of G.Ramanathan" I'd love to work on some of his songs. I dunno if I could these songs justice but...

I know there are more songs done in Bollywood at the time (60s &70s) but want to stick to Tamil songs first.

I also found a forum topic on Dance and Dappanguthu on this site but am having a tough time locating older songs. While I like Marugao and Mala, I prefer the older songs.

Is there a big mp3 site online of Old Tamil songs. I will start by searching through Coolgoose and tmstorrents.com I suppose.

There are toomany 'dappanguthu' songs in Tamil movies (There will never be scarcity for that). Very few of them are:

1) Pattikkaada...pattanamaa...(Maattukkaara Velan)
2) Ennadi raakkaammaa pallaakku nelippu..(Pattikkaada pattanamaa)
3) Kettukkodi urumi meleam...(same movie)
4) Naanga pudhusaa kattikitta jodithaanunga... (Oli vilakku)
5) Raja....kannu pogaathadi... (Naan)
6) Theru paakka vandhirukkum....(Iru dhuruvam)
7) Chon pappadi... chona pappadi... (En magan)
8) Varadhappa...varadhappa..kanji varudhappa (Babu)
9) Annaaththai aaduraar... (Apoorva sagodharargal)
10) Podhuvaaga emmanasu thangam... (Murattu kaalai)
11) Kaana karunguyile.... (Poonthotta kaavalkaaran)
12) Vandhendaa paalkaareyn... (Annamalai)
13) Naan autokaaran...autokaaran... (Batsha)

But in present days (except some), almost all are dappanguthu only

Manmadha raasaa...manmadha raasaa... (thiruda thirudi)
Appadi podu..podu...podu.. (gilli)
Aal thotta boopathy naanada... (youth)
Thimsu kattai...ai...ai...thimsukattai.... (thirumalai)
Machaan peru madhureeeyyy..... (Madhure)
Appan senja thappula.... (Thirupaachi..??)
Aalaana naal muthalaa... (??)
Ennaasai mythiliye.... (mythili ennai kaadhali & manmadhan)
Pottu thaakku..pottu thaaku... (kuththu)

ooohh....the list is endless.......

But there is one evergreen 'dappanguthu' song, even now also played by stage music troups:

"mama...mama...mama...
yemma...yemma...yemma"

TMS & Jamuna Rani with chorus in 'Kumudham' by KVM (1961)

Another song in Rajapaart rangadhurai...

Jinjinikaan chinna kili sirikkum pachakilii

Is this also this variety only ??

One can see Shivaji at his best.... laughing at the dias to please the children and also crying parallely remembering his sister.
