View Full Version : Who is the best duet singer with IR?

I was listening to a few songs sung by IR and the duets were with various other PB Singers such as Janaki, Chitra, Uma Ramanan etc. In my opinion, some of the most classic songs were when IR sings with Uma Ramanan. The proportion of good songs from this combination is extremely high.

any views?

add sangathil pAdAdha kavidhai to the IR-SJ list (Thamizh version of `thumbee vA')...I don't think any other singer has so many to her credit with IR...

Most of IR-SJ songs were nice compositions and went on to become hits.

But for duet singing combination, I think Chithra's voice matched well with that of IR's. IR's voice was soft but kind of rustic and Chithra's was soft and sweet. I think this combo jelled well. Some nice songs which I can think of are :

Nethu oruthara (Pudhu paattu)
Indha maan (Karagatakaran)
Oru Jeevan (Geethanjali)
Devanin koil (Aruvadai Naal)
Oor oramaa (Idhaya Koil)
Unnai ennaadha naal edhu (??)
Kaalam ilaveni kaalam (Vidinjaa kalayam) - not exactly a duet but has 2 version - one by IR and one by Chithra.
Machi mannaru (En uyir thozhan)

Btw, is there any duet by IR and P Susheela?

gargas, even I am curious of the other classical IR-Uma Ramanan duets.

"thenna marathula thendral adikkudhu" from a Sridevi starrer movie called Lakshmi was the only IR-PS duet and it created a big controversy those days.

"andha nilAvaththAn nAn kayyila pudichchEn" from MM is definitely not SJ...could be Chitra ( or some other one-song singer, may be sasireka...)

sseshadri75, the song "Unnai Kaanaadha naal edhu", I think, is by Chithra-Arun Mozhi. Sorry for the error. Its a nice song though.

The song from Vidinjaa Kalyanam (Kaalam ilaveni kaalam) is also a great melody. But yes, as you said, its difficult to find them on the net.

Sorry was out of action for some time

Some of the UR - IR songs that I can think of right away

Malare Pesu mouna mozhi

Oru jeevan Azhaithathu

Thullie ezhundhadhu oru

I am sure there are a few other songs as well. My feeling was just that this pair havent sung much together, but whenever they have we have got a great song.

By the way, I am sure if we look for the most number of great songs sung with IR, the prize would go to SJ hands down. I saw the list of songs mentioned in this thread. One song particularly missing is my most fav song by IR - poo malaye from the movie pagal nilavu. I think this is the greatest song in IR's voice.

gargas, I think the first 2 songs mentioned in your list (Malarae Pesu... and Oru Jeevan...) are by IR-Chithra combo. I am not sure about the 3rd song though!

thulli ezhundhadhu pAttu is also by KSC...all three quoted by gargas are from the film Geethanjali and all by IR-KSC...no Uma Ramanan there...
