There is a thread about that already:

Quite a few non-Tamil names are listed there as well, but there are some very good suggestions - maybe we could continue the discussion there?

I named my daughter as ' Ezhil Malar' a very beautiful thamiz name :D . Then, I was transferred to Nagpur & we were there for 15 years. My daughter completed her entire education there in Nagpur. Everyone used to call her '' Yeszkil Malhar'' :( . Many tim;es she was listed among the boys and all concluded firmly that we are christians  . Recently, she got a job in a good shoftware company so we took her to Mumbai. The company arranged her stay in a star hotel. After reaching there we found to our dismay that she has to share her room with another boy :x  .
