Tendulkar, Dravid named in CLT20 squads

Sachin Tendulkar, who has retired from the IPL, and Rahul Dravid, who has indicated the upcoming Champions League would be his last tournament, have been named in the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals squads for the Twenty20 event. A Faisalabad Wolves squad has also been announced, in an indication of the Pakistan side's probable participation in the qualifying stage of the league, after political tensions between India and Pakistan had cast doubts over whether they would be allowed to come over.

Kumar Sangakkara is the only player who hasn't preferred his IPL franchise for the tournament among the 12 wanted by two sides, and has decided to play for his home side Kandurata Maroons. Explaining the process for deciding which teams these players would represent, Dean Kino, a CLT20 governing council member and director of legal and business affairs, said: "Players who were named by more than one team were asked to select which team they were going to play for. Teams were then allowed to replace any player that withdrew from their squad and elected to play for another side.

"CLT20 regulations state that when a player elects to play for their 'away' team, that team must pay the 'home' team $150,000 compensation per player. A 'home' team is classified as a team from the country a player is eligible to represent in international cricket.

"This payment is applicable for 10 of the 12 players that were eligible for more than one team. The exceptions are Kumar Sangakkara, who will be representing Kandurata Maroons, which is classified as his home team, and Thisara Perera, who qualified for Brisbane Heat and Sunrisers Hyderabad, neither of which is classified as his home team."

Lasith Malinga has not been named in the Mumbai Indians squad as he wanted to be with his wife and family, as they expect their second child late in September.

Group A includes Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Lions, Perth Scorchers and Qualifier 1 while

Group B has Chennai Super Kings, Brisbane Heat, Titans, Trinidad & Tobago and Qualifier 2.

Looked decent, SRT. Played a very good backfoot punch and a lovely cover drive. But his dismissal was ugly. A premeditated shot resulting in the bat being completely away from the pad and an edge to the keeper. And he should also have a look into his S/R. A 90ish strike rate will never work in this format.

CEDYBLUE
29th September 2013, 08:44 PM
Yeah, he had a less-than impressive start to his IPL career earlier this year and seems SRH did not see a role for him. He seems to be a genuine prospect to take on SA's wicketkeeping role in the future. Young guy, with a good First Class record.

What an impressive win by a Top class player / Captain and his team. No Fancy hair cut, No Fuss No mess, Just plain Red shades to save his precious eyes from flood lights. Rahul Dravid a single man behind this unstoppable force, which consist of modest guys like Tambe (not Thambi) and Sanju Samson is truly amazing.Though personally I would have liked both these teams being banned for atleast 5 years for their sins. But whatever Indian standards it is set by the people and accepted by majority of fans (which is a sad state). We need to go with it. If I had to pick one which deserved a place in Finals it would have been Royals.

Though I never had chance to watch most of these CPL matches, I did see few highlights last nite. It looks like Royals might have had a slight edge going in to this Tournament with an home pitch advantage. They made good use of it. In today's match it was evident that just sticking to basics will put you in the right spot.
What a batting line up ajinkya rahane , sanju samson text book shots, a treat to watch. Tambe wow , it was overwhelming to see him blow and watch batsmen brake dance for his deliveries with zero foot work. As many said its indeed a fairy tale story of a 41 year old.

As far as this match goes ,CSK manja boys were nervous bunch with Mr. Murali Vijay with his chicken catch running to open the flood gates for Comedy of errors. Last 4 overs of Royals Innings I thought for a SEC that this could be CSK game ,the way they pulled back the score was quite brilliant. Whatever said and done like everyone , even I celebrated little early (@12.5 overs). They way Ashwin starting playing I thought Cedy boy and his gang will round me up here with silly smileys and clueless remarks. In the end it needed little more than a pinch hitter to save this game for CSK.

Conclusion : Best / Deserving team is in Finals.
