Mouna Raagam.

As we prepare ourselves to witness how Divya is going to accustom to her forced marriage and the ensuing situations, Mani Ratnam cleverly suggests that these are common for every Indian woman through the portrayal of the sister-in-law of Divya. She might not be as fiercely independent and dogmatic as Divya, but who knows, she might as well faced the same situations. She has very limited screen time, Mani presents her in three scenes - She is the *only* person who insists on asking Divya's opnion in deciding her marriage; She is happy with her husband; She convinces Divya and sends her inside the bedroom during the first night after marriage. (Interestingly, not shown on screen). It's upto the audience to connect these dots. Talk about economical screenwriting!

kutty
Despite some Bruce Lee'ism (and NT'ism in one scene), Dhanush is extremely likeable in this movie. I was laughing like a child thru out the first half - he is just brilliant (good% of credit goes to the writer).

And the train scene with Mayilsamy as TT Laughing rewound a couple of times and enjoyed LOLing Smile

Unfortunately, the film is boring and annoying after that train scene Sad

Shreya is dull and the dubbing voice is intolerable. Songs / BGM are outright noise (didn't bother to check who the MD is).

I was wondering how someone who comes up with a brilliant first half can drag it in such a stupid way later on Confused2

nANayam
When my b-i-l picked up this dvd, I was wondering how one can watch a movie with Sibiraj as lead.

Well, prepared myself using "the-technology-of-the-colleague-of-my-keralite-friend" (he won't watch any TF unless someone treats him with a kuppi as a desensitizer) and was expecting the worst.

It turned out to be an OK movie - first of all Sibiraj is not the hero but Prasanna (more tolerable). Then there is SPB. Then there is somewhat different plot (possibly borrowed, but interesting). Then there is also outright stupidity (who takes pics using film camera anymore? also the bullet thingy). And Sibiraj is hopeless as a villain as well Sad

Had they removed all songs (we FF'ed anyways), it could have been better.

Hope SPB recovered his investment..

Theeratha Vilaiyaattu Pillai - Parthen Rasithen

Movie about a guy who wanna find the perfect match for his life among 3 girls, see if he succeeds or not.

Although the story was predictable, I enjoyed it more than Vishals recent movies.

About performance: Vishal doing his part good. Sarah Jane, Tanushree Dutta, Neetu Chandra hot girls to watch (the only minus was their dubbing voices...cant they find dubbing artists in chennai who speak like real tamils...), thank you producer to spend money on 5 actresses. Sneha and Mallika Kapoor appearing in cameo roles.

Comedy is again great, Santhanams one liners cracks me up.
"machan current off pannitta ellarum kareena kapoor than". Mayilsaamy and Sathyan funny too. Prakashraj, Mouli, Sudha also done their roles well.

Biggest minus are the songs and BGM. I hate when they use ilayaraja music in overdose. YSR better luck next time.

An acceptable debute for director Thiru, Thiruvizhavai kondaadu machan.

I was flipping through my friend's DVD collection when I came across the classic Maya Bazaar. The last time I watched the film was when I was 10 years old, I think.
Enjoyed all the scenes in the film. Kalyanam samayal saadham still sounds amazing after all these years!

Antaheen. Last year's national award winner. multiple stories neatly tied together in a "slow" screenplay. (putting it in quotes because "Art" films & bengali films are called slow). Worked really well for me, inspite of the artificially delievered dialogues. Aparna sen was a delight to watch. And lovely songs by Shantanu Moitra, beautifully sung by Shreya Ghoshal. She picked up an award too for these songs!

Veera.

The Musical. Rajini Rocks. Raja Rocks. Roja Rocks.....okay, the last one was for rhyming reasons don't take it seriously Very Happy More on the Rajini's thread.

Also.

Ghilli.

Finally, got around this film which even some Vijay detractors seemed to like. I got no complain, good moments here and there.
