Pick #967

Song: yAr mAmanO
Film: Vetrikku Oruvan
Music: Ilaiyaraja
Lyrics: ?
Singer: S.Janaki
Year: 1979

IR beautifully blends the West and East. Don't know why this song did not become popular. May be it was banned on the radio and did not get enough exposure.

yAr mAmanO

Neel,

Very lovely song, 'yAr mAmanO'. As you say, a wonderful amalgamation of east and west with a very jazzy interlude. Wish the song was longer. Thanks for the pick.

Neel D -

Vaanambaadi Jodi is a precious duet. VJ-KJY sing it with such nuanced dedication!

Yaar Maamano is a fantastic pick! SJ-IR on an absolute high!

Pick #968

Song: nilavE unakku
Film: Karpooram
Music: D.B.Ramachandran
Lyrics: ?
Singers: P.Susheela, P.B.Srinivas
Year: 1967

Happy Thanksgiving!

Karpooram starred AVM.Rajan and Pushpalata in the lead. This is one of the four films D.B.Ramachandran composed music for. DBR was born in Bodinayakknur near Madurai. At a very young age he joined the famous theater group Boys Company run by Nawab Rajamanikkam Pillai where he trained in vocal music and harmonium. Later DBR started working in film industry in the orchestras of R.Sudarsanam and G.Ramanathan. DBR played the harmonium and the accordian and in rare occasions sang playback too.

DBR composed music for only four films. His lovely compositions went unappreciated and his talent went underutilized in the film industry. But he composed many devotional albums, some very popular in Seerkazhi Govindrajan's voice. DBR also worked as a musician in the dance schools of Renganayaki Jayaraman and Saroja Vaidyanathan.

nilavE unakku

Part of the information in this post was taken off the internet. Thanks to Cinema Express, Vamanam and tfmpage.
