Neel D -
Heard this duet for the first time! There are so many good songs that were never given their due on AIR,,,and this joins the list. Thanks for bringing it here! Did Anu also feature that exquisite VJ solo "Vaanilae Endha Naalum..."?
BTW, is that Rani Padmini on the album art?
Side bar: I was half expecting you to give us a pure "bhakthi" song...hmmm...like: "Dhaevi, Dhaevi, Thaenil Kuliththaen"! |

Pick #900
Song: kEttukkOdi urumi mELam
Film: Pattikkada Pattanama
Music: M.S.Viswanathan
Lyrics: ?
Singers: T.M.Sounderarajan, L.R.Eswari
Year: 1972
Pattikkada Pattanama starred Sivaji Ganesan and Jayalalitha in the lead. London educated Jayalalitha (நான் லண்டன்ல படிச்சவ!) marries her muRaimAman kudumi-wearing farmer Sivaji (சோழவந்தான் சுந்தரமகாலிங்க சேர்வை மகன் மூக்கையண்டி நான்!). Modernity and tradition clash. The couple separates. Jayalaitha's mother played by the wonderful Sukumari helps widen the rift with her dambam and aganggAram. Lots of verbal fights ensue and finally Jayalalitha realizes the significance of marital bond and reunites with Sivaji.
During their happy times, before the couple fights and splits, the terms of endearment go like this...
Jayalaitha: குடுமி அங்கிள்!
Sivaji:
Today's pick is a fun song. MSV, TMS and LRE let it rip. LRE's english is so beautiful.

Glad you enjoyed, Naaz.
| Quote: | Jayalaitha:
Sivaji: |
LRE part is tune rehash as in
I was running around with
in விஸ்வநாதன்'s Jazzy- tap dance orchestration... couple of months back... prelude music is the same tune as நினைத்தேன் வந்தாய் நூறு வயது....which is the same tune as பட்டத்து ராணி பார்க்கும் பார்வை
வெற்றிக்குத்தான் என என்ன வேண்டும் ..different style with different mood.
Last week I was listening to பருவத்தில் கொஞ்சம்.....பணம் படைத்தவன்...is the same tune as அனுபவம் புதுமை.....
orey tune rehash..
I am listening to L.R.E is one of my favorite song though it is a lift of COME SEPTEMBER - ROMANTIC COMEDY.....used in Nazrein Mili Dil Dhadkha Mera Dhadkan Ne Kaha Love You Raja .....Nadeem Shravan...madhuri dixit.
vinatha. |

Neel D -
This one is an all-out rocker - like.. forever!
JJ and Sivaji = Laddu + Kadai!
Another favorite of mine with this pair: Savaalae Samaalee! (a bit like PP turned around?)
Sukumari - such a great artiste! She was also superb in Lalitha.
LRE - What can one say? In a league all her own (and even that seems inadequate!).
How did you guys forget "Minmini Poochchigal, Kanngalil Thenpadum"?
Sivandha Mann! Loved it! Big time Kanchana fan naan! |
