Pick #687 and #688
Song 1: yEnindha mouna raagam (P. Susheela)
Song 2: muthu panthalil (TNS & SJ)
Film: thOdi rAgam
MD: Kunnakkudi Vaidhyanathan
Lyrics: ?
http://raretfm.mayyam.com/pow07/aenindha_tr.mp3 (Song 1)
http://raretfm.mayyam.com/pow07/muthu_tr.mp3 (song 2)
To quote from my older posts "I think kunnakkudi is one of the most successful MD's who crossed-over from pure canatic to films. I like many of his filmy tunes. Several of them were lilting - especially the very light classical numbers".
Today's picks are two fine examples of this. Note his violin delineations in Song 1, and, for raga enthusiasts, how he brings out the gist of the ragas beautifully in Song 2 (It's a ragamalika - the raga names are there in the lyrics).
I don't know much about the movie apart from the stars TNS & Nalini. Madhu,RC or anyone can post story or at least the song situations? Tks. |

Priya,
Glad you liked it. It must be the only duet of TN. Sheshagopalan, rt? |

| Thanks RR for the Thodi Raagam song. Mesmorising solo by PS. Guess Nalini, after consuming poison, sings this song. Excellent. |

Oh krishna prabhu unnidam naan vanden... is a superb Thodi based song. Again Susila's solo I think. Some Sumithra movie.
Is Velli malai mannavaa by S.Varalakshmi also Thodi based?
Yeninda mouna raagam solo is without any interludes... after beginning violin piece, Pallavi and charanams are continuously sung. Something different attempt by Kunnakudi/PS. For each charanam PS adds the feel/expression brilliantly. Pani thirai manam enna.... is sung from heart. Superb. |

vel1970, thanks, but I don't think velli malai is thodi based. One of the best light classical I have heard is 'thaamarai poovil amarnthavaLe' but of course it's not a film song.
madhu: no, the clue was for the song (not movie name). Anyway it's coming in next post. |
